"I will." She kissed him lightly. "And you take care of yourself. Don't push yourself too hard."
His gaze softened. "I'll miss you. I'll think of you every day. I'll dream of you every night."
Her heart thudded at his words, warmth spreading through her in a way that made her breath hitch. It sounded dramatic, even silly, but it felt sincere.
She slipped her arms around his neck and leaned closer. "I'll be waiting for you."
"Say it."
"Darling."
His smile was slow and satisfied. "Good."
He held her tightly for one last moment, then kissed her deeply, as if trying to memorize the feel of her. When he finally stepped into the elevator, his eyes stayed on her until the doors slid shut.
Elena stood there long after, staring at her own reflection in the polished metal.
