You're the Only One I Want Looking at Me Like That
It started with a random Tuesday.
Jay was standing by the lockers, looking for her charger in her bag, when a voice called out behind her.
"Need help, sunshine?"
She turned. It was Nico — senior, varsity player, known flirt.
Jay raised a brow. "I'm good."
But he still leaned casually on the locker next to her, smiling like he'd never seen rejection in his life. "I mean… if your boyfriend's too busy, I've got time."
"Who said I have a boyfriend?"
Wrong move.
Because Keifer's voice came from behind them, calm but dangerously low:
"I did."
Jay turned to see him standing there, arms crossed, jaw tight.
Nico blinked. "Yo, man—just talking."
Keifer stepped between them, not even subtle.
Jay grabbed his sleeve. "Keifer—"
But he just looked over his shoulder at her. "You let guys like that flirt with you now?"
Jay narrowed her eyes. "Excuse me?"
"You didn't even shut him down."
"I didn't know I had to audition my eye contact."
Keifer ran a hand through his hair, tense. "That's not what I meant."
Jay paused.
Something in his tone was off.
Not angry. Just… scared.
Later, under the bleachers after school, Jay found him sitting alone.
She didn't say anything. Just sat beside him and waited.
Eventually, he spoke.
"I saw him looking at you like you're a prize."
She stayed quiet.
"I've spent so long watching you from a distance. I still can't believe I get to hold your hand now. I guess I just—"
He stopped.
Then: "I don't want to lose that. Not again."
Jay blinked. "You're not going to."
He looked at her.
And she reached for his hand.
"You don't have to get scared every time someone else notices me, Keifer. I'm yours. Okay? I chose you."
He was silent for a moment.
Then whispered: "Say it again."
Jay leaned closer, her forehead resting against his. "I'm yours."
He kissed her.
Quick. Desperate. Then gone too fast.
The Next Day: Club Fair Day
Section E had set up their booth with chaotic pride, and Jay was stuck manning it with Yuki while Keifer helped the sports booth across the gym.
It should've been fine.
But Keifer kept glancing over.
And Jay?
She knew exactly what she was doing.
Tucking her hair behind her ear. Smiling too sweetly at anyone who came by. Waving in that slow, pretty way.
By the time Keifer stalked across the gym and dragged her behind the banner wall, she was smirking.
"You're evil," he whispered.
"You're obsessed," she whispered back.
He pressed her against the wall. "Only with you."
Their lips brushed — just once.
But then—
"KEIFER WATSON, GET BACK TO THE BASKETBALL BOOTH," someone yelled across the gym.
He groaned. "I hate everyone."
Jay winked. "Later."
