Chapter 159: Success
Silas underestimated Therrus's desire to survive. Therrus understood that relying solely on those bio-enhanced fighters wouldn't be enough to deal with Destiny. Not to mention Destiny's inherent abilities, just those sets of Blacklight armor alone were enough to deal with them.
Bang!
Therrus crashed through a window and leapt into a wedding hall. The wedding hall was empty at the moment. Just as Therrus was about to keep running, a sudden whooshing sound rang out. Therrus quickly lifted a table in front of him and threw it behind him. Clang! Five shurikens slammed violently into the table.
Although the Black Shadow Ninja hadn't caught up to Therrus, it hadn't been shaken off either, maintaining a distance of less than five meters. After blocking the shurikens without injury, Therrus didn't dare to turn around to look at the Black Shadow Ninja, but continued to run desperately.
It must be said that normally Therrus's speed was no match for the Black Shadow Ninja. In terms of speed and agility, the Black Shadow Ninja was truly fast. But the current Therrus was singularly focused on survival, bringing out all of his potential.
"Give it to me!" Therrus ran onto the street and saw a man about to start his car. Without a word, he grabbed the man through the window and yanked him out, then quickly slipped inside himself. Since the car had already been started, Therrus slammed his foot on the accelerator. The car instantly sped up, quickly leaving the Black Shadow Ninja behind.
The Black Shadow Ninja paused, watched the receding Therrus, and calmly took a jetpack out of the Shadow Realm and put it on. Boom! The Black Shadow Ninja followed the trajectory of Therrus's car, catching up to him in less than ten seconds.
"What the heck is that!" Therrus looked in the rear-view mirror and saw the Black Shadow Ninja flying in mid-air.
"F*ck!" Therrus pounded the steering wheel, then quickly turned it. The car swished into an alley. The Black Shadow Ninja followed closely. Just as it entered the alley, it saw Therrus jump out of the car, open a manhole cover, and jump down into the sewer.
The Bar
"Quite good," Silas said, watching through the Black Shadow Ninja's perspective. If possible, he wanted to recruit Therrus as an operative. The Black Shadow Corps was certainly useful, but they weren't human, and they couldn't think like people in many situations—except for Little Black, the anomaly. The strength of the Black Shadow Corps mostly lay in their obedience to commands; whatever their master said, they did without hesitation.
Silas refocused his attention back here, watching the fight between the Shadowkhan Eaters and the Mantis Men. Shadowkhan Eaters don't have hands; they only grow them and eyes after evolving to their final form. Currently, they rely only on their sharp teeth and massive bodies as weapons for attack.
"Roar!" A Eater bit down on the Mantis Man's upper body, appearing ready to swallow it whole. But the Mantis Man wasn't weak. It plunged its serrated double blades into the Eater's body and began to slice up and down. Threads of black smoke seeped from the Eater's wound. In less than a minute, the Eater would completely dissolve into black mist.
"The game over there isn't finished yet, but we're done here." Silas dropped his playful attitude.
The Shadowkhan Eaters also understood Silas's meaning and retreated back into the Shadow Realm. The Mantis Men became even more arrogant after the Eaters disappeared, believing they had won. At that moment, an even larger Shadowkhan Eater emerged from the Shadow Realm, practically filling the entire space of the bar. It exposed its set of white shark-like teeth, then, in one gulp, swallowed all four Mantis Men, as well as the tables, chairs, and other debris, before disappearing as if it had never been there.
It must be said that the Giant Shadowkhan Eater is quite a bug in the system; it just swallows you whole. Unless you're strong enough to defeat the smaller Eaters inside its stomach and then break through its abdomen, which the Mantis Men clearly couldn't do.
"Did Peter arrive?" Silas received a message from the Black Shadow Ninja on watch outside. Looking around to confirm that nothing had been left behind, he entered the Shadow Realm. He didn't want Peter to know he had been here.
The Sewer
One man and one shadow were engaged in a chase inside.
"Hah~ Hah~ Hah~" Therrus was panting heavily, running wildly. He swore! This was the most intense exercise he had ever done since he was born.
The Black Shadow Ninja relentlessly pursued him. Unlike Therrus's body, which was composed of flesh and blood, the Ninja's body was formed by magic, so it didn't tire.
"Huff~ Puff~" Therrus stopped. It wasn't because time was up, but because he had nowhere left to run! Blocking Therrus's path was a huge sluice gate, designed to filter out trash here. There was no way Therrus could slip through the gap.
Therrus turned back and saw the Black Shadow Ninja. He said, "Give me a chance."
The Black Shadow Ninja didn't reply—or rather, it couldn't speak. It pulled a kunai from its pocket and lunged forward, aiming straight for Therrus's neck. Therrus quickly bent down to dodge. Just as he was about to kick the Ninja's leg, he suddenly remembered the rule: he couldn't touch the Black Shadow Ninja. So, in the split second of exertion, he immediately changed his attack position, rolling across the ground and sliding under the Ninja's feet.
Then, scrambling back up, Therrus ran in the direction he had come from, intending to get out of the sewer.
"Thirty seconds left!" Therrus lifted his wrist, staring at the time on his watch.
The Black Shadow Ninja was not going to let Therrus off easy and once again pulled a handgun out of the Shadow Realm. Bang! Bang! Both bullets struck Therrus in the back.
"Ah!" Therrus's body heated up, forcing the bullets out of his back. Enduring the pain, he shouted, "The rules didn't say I couldn't be hit by bullets!"
Yes, Silas had only said he couldn't be hit by a shuriken. The Black Shadow Ninja understood this. Its main reason for pulling the gun was simply to stop Therrus from escaping.
But, Beep beep beep! Beep beep beep! Beep beep beep! Time was up!
A smile finally appeared on Therrus's face. He turned off the alarm on his watch and, feeling a sense of survival, said, "I survived."
"Haha! I survived!" Therrus knelt on the ground in excitement, clutching his tearing eyes.
The Black Shadow Ninja didn't bother with the weeping Therrus. Instead, it bent over and stood respectfully aside. Silas had arrived.
"Congratulations, you survived," Silas said.
"Thank you. I won't go back to the organization. I will return to being a normal person," Therrus said. Through this experience, he understood many things. Being alive was better than anything else.
"A normal person?" Silas let out a cold laugh and said, "Did I say you could be a normal person?"
"Huh!" Therrus shouted with wide eyes, "You said I would live!"
"That's right, but..." Silas countered, "Becoming a vegetable also counts as surviving, doesn't it?"
"..." Therrus was silent. After a moment, he said, "What do you want me to do?"
Therrus knew that if Destiny was still talking to him instead of killing him immediately, there must be something he wanted to tell him.
"Clever~ I want you to work for me," Silas stated plainly. Therrus had no other choice!
