Chapter 107: Klein Catches a Robber
The four people Klein ate last time were all captured on surveillance and made headline news the next day. Tony learned about this and specifically asked J.A.R.V.I.S. to hack into the surveillance footage to review the scene from that night. It was truly disgusting.
Consequently, Tony had J.A.R.V.I.S. check all surveillance along the route, but he was surprised to find that in the area where the monster appeared, all electronic devices had malfunctioned. Nothing had been recorded, only static could be seen. The only thing they could confirm was the area.
That area was Queens, and the electronic device failure occurred across nearly the entire borough on that night. However, everything returned to normal within five minutes.
"This is giving me a headache," Tony said, setting down his Whopper and taking a sip of milk. The information about this man-eating monster was truly scarce, leaving them completely passive.
Night Begins to Fall
The Parker brothers had just finished dinner and were playing video games in the house.
Knock, knock, knock! Someone was knocking on Silas's window.
Silas turned around and exclaimed, My God! It was Klein, or rather, Klein transformed into the monster.
"Yay! I win, Silas!" Peter said happily, focused on the screen.
Silas tugged Peter's arm and pointed outside the window. Peter turned his head. "Teacher Klein..."
In Klein's House
"Teacher, how did you change back again?" Peter asked, touching Klein's body up and down.
Klein looked at Peter. "I have a guess."
"You turn into a monster at night and remain a normal person during the day," Silas offered his own speculation. Klein had mentioned this before, and Silas had paid attention, especially since Klein's monster form reminded him of the Shendu's Sheep Talisman.
"That's right, Silas, that's exactly my guess," Klein looked at Silas with some surprise. He hadn't expected Silas to be quite so clever.
Peter's head was spinning. "So, does that mean you'll turn into this every night, Teacher?"
"It seems that way," Klein replied helplessly. In a way, he found it acceptable. At least he was a normal person during the day, allowing him to teach students at school. In the afternoon, he could rush home and wait for the night to pass.
"Teacher, can I take a look at the formula?" Peter asked. He was quite interested in the gene formula. Maybe he could use it to completely cure the Teacher?
Klein paused, then nodded. He got up, went to the bedroom, and retrieved the formula notebook. Klein had already made a copy before returning the original notebook to Connors.
"This is the formula notebook. I returned the original to Connors. This one I wrote myself," Klein said, handing the notebook to Peter.
Peter took the notebook, flipped it open, and looked through it. He couldn't understand much, as he hadn't studied this field. However, to cure the Teacher, Peter decided he needed to delve into genetics. He was going to be busy for a while.
"Teacher, can I borrow this formula notebook for a while?" Peter asked, holding up the notebook.
Klein nodded. "Of course, Peter. But please don't attempt this experiment. You're already perfect as you are." Klein thought Peter was borrowing the formula notebook because he wanted to gain more power and attempt the experiment himself.
"Mhm," Peter replied without explaining. He decided to wait until he had some results before telling the Teacher. If he told Klein now and ultimately failed, wouldn't that destroy the newfound hope?
Silas noticed the gene formula notebook and planned to copy it when Peter wasn't paying attention. Then, he would give the copied version to Little Black, and then have the Shadow Eater Ninja cough up Connors.
Silas had kept Connors alive because he still held value; he could teach Little Black about genetics. Silas also wanted to study genes, a field capable of enhancing human ability. Though he didn't need the power, thanks to the Talisman powers, that didn't stop Silas's desire to study it. Although the research would be done by Little Black, he was happy to let him, as Little Black loved to learn.
"Then we'll head back now, Teacher," Silas said. He felt there was no point in staying any longer.
"Mhm," Klein waved, seeing Silas and Peter off.
On the Rooftop of a Tall Building
Standing in the gentle cool breeze, Klein felt lost at first, unsure what to do with himself. After thinking it over, he decided he couldn't waste this power. He could be a superhero, just like his students, Spider-Man and his partner.
"An ugly, evil appearance cannot stop this righteous heart of mine. Even if I am dirty and contemptible, I will selflessly become a superhero."
Klein's dual blades popped out, flashing around like a praying mantis eager to hunt.
Fixing his gaze on the scene below, Klein spread the dual blades from his back, resembling wings, and leaped down.
"Hurry up! Hand over all the money!" a robber threatened a skinny young man in front of him.
"Behind you..." the young man stammered, shaking all over.
"Behind me?" The robber felt a blast of hot air on the back of his neck.
Swallowing hard, the robber turned around and saw a gigantic insect standing right behind him.
"Ah!" The robber tried to bolt, but Klein hooked his clothing with a bone blade, making escape impossible.
"Please, I beg you, don't eat me! Don't eat me!" The robber was terrified, staring at the sharp teeth in front of him. He had heard rumors that a man-eating monster had appeared in the area. At first, he dismissed it as a joke, until he witnessed it firsthand today...
Klein stared at the robber's terrified expression. He had no intention of eating the robber, as he knew the smell of fresh blood might make him lose control.
"Don't worry, I won't eat you. I'm taking you somewhere," Klein said, grabbing the robber and leaping into the air.
In less than a moment, Klein arrived at the police station with the robber. Bang!
Klein threw the robber directly inside the police station. He had lost all patience for people like this. The four people from last time had caused him to lose faith in humanity. Such people shouldn't be pitied.
Police Station
The robber, who had been violently thrown onto the floor by Klein, ignored his injuries. He crawled over to a police officer's leg, hugged it tightly, and cried:
"Please arrest me quickly! Don't let me out! I surrender! I surrender!"
This scene baffled all the police officers, who had just pulled out their guns, preparing to shoot.
"What happened?" the officer urgently asked.
"There's a monster outside! A huge monster!" the robber cried out in fear.
Upon hearing this, the police officers quickly drew their pistols and went outside. They carefully checked the area around the entrance, but where was the monster?
