Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The Shadow Eaters

"Is the situation handled?" Silas asked, supporting his head with his hand as he sat on the chair.

A Shadowkhan bent low and reported respectfully, "The matter is cleanly dealt with."

[Killed prisoners in the cell, gained 356 Sin Points]

Killing these prisoners did not earn Silas Justice Points because he had no authority to decide their fate; therefore, he only received an income of Sin Points.

"Move to the next location," Silas instructed. This was part of his plan. The Green Goblin's self-detonation had clearly shown him that his strength was insufficient. He was too lazy to try to gain Justice Points, finding the process too troublesome. Gaining Sin Points by killing was much faster.

The Shadowkhan stood on either side of Silas and then plunged into the darkness, proceeding toward the next target as if nothing had happened.

Oscorp Group Underground Laboratory

The area was now completely ruined. Various instruments were destroyed, severed wires were sparking, and the floor was littered with limbs and the occasional groans of the few lucky survivors.

"Hah... whooh..." Norman slowly and tremulously stood up. He was alive! The superhuman physique granted by the serum had allowed him to survive this ordeal. However, without the cover of the console, he would have still been blown to bits. He ignored the three or four people groaning nearby.

Instead, he walked with a slight wobble toward the armory. Fortunately, the armory had a solid external door.

"Spider-Man... Black-Clad Man... I hope you two don't look for trouble." Norman currently had no desire to deal with them. They didn't really have a conflict. If those two would just quietly go about being heroes, that would be fine, but if they stood in his way, he would have to apologize for what happened next.

Beep! The armory door opened, revealing the Green Goblin suit inside—the suit Norman had prepared for himself.

Norman ran his hand over the cold, green exterior of the suit. A truly perfect creation, much better than Tony Stark's Iron Man armor!

"The power of the pumpkin bomb is impressive," Norman said, feeling the pain in his abdomen.

It was a pity there was no one left to share this joy with him. His life's work of research had finally been completed.

"Heh, ha ha ha!" Norman's loud laughter echoed through the empty laboratory.

"It's done." Silas commanded the Shadowkhan, having cleared another prison and raised his Sin Points to 1,568.

Opening the System Store, Silas did not rush to exchange for the Talisman clues. Instead, he unlocked the Shadowkhan Eaters!

Five hundred Sin Points were deducted, and Silas summoned thirteen Shadowkhan Eater.

Giggle! Giggle! Giggle!

Thirteen small, tadpole-like figures with two short legs that bounced as they moved, revealing large white mouths.

"They really are tiny," Silas thought. He found this unit quite endearing, and they had great potential, provided there were enough shadows.

Now, Silas needed to execute the next phase of his plan: the rescue. He chose to unlock the Shadow Eaters first because their slender bodies were perfectly suited to burrow through the gaps in the ruins and search for the trapped Misty and Ned.

Using the Shadow Realm for transportation, Silas quickly returned to the school grounds, where rescue operations were still ongoing.

Silas glanced at the Shadow Eaters, and they instantly understood his intent. Bouncing on their short legs, they drilled into the rubble pile and began searching.

"I hope Misty is still safe," Silas whispered. He was prepared for the worst—that Misty had been crushed to death. But even if she were dead, Silas would preserve her body and attempt to revive her later once he acquired the Horse Talisman and the Dog Talisman.

After a short period, the Shadow Eaters sent back a message: Misty was alive!

Misty was incredibly lucky, trapped beneath a collapsed corner of a wall which formed a natural protective barrier. Her face, however, was scratched by a rock. Compared to her life, a facial scratch was extremely fortunate. She was deeply unconscious, and her tightly furrowed brow indicated how stressed she had been.

The Shadow Eaters surrounded Misty, opened the Shadow Realm, and brought her directly before Silas.

"Thank goodness she's alright," Silas said, looking at the girl lying before him and smiling in relief.

However, seeing the scar scratched across Misty's face made Silas's heart ache. Fortunately, he had the system, and once he obtained the Horse Talisman, he could completely restore her face.

Perhaps feeling the cool evening breeze, Misty shivered. Her eyelashes fluttered, indicating she was about to wake up.

"Goodbye, beautiful girl. I wish you a sweet dream tonight." Silas decided not to reveal himself to Misty. After ensuring the surroundings were safe, he vanished.

Shortly after Silas left, Misty slowly opened her eyes. Seeing the lights all around her, she was briefly stunned. Am I dreaming?

"Help me!" Misty cried out, lying on the ground and calling toward the lights. She tried to stand but found her legs were numb from being trapped so long.

A few rescue workers quickly approached from the distance. Unbeknownst to Misty, these were the Shadowkhan Silas had disguised earlier. The Shadowkhan placed Misty onto a stretcher and carried her toward the ambulance, even though her injuries certainly didn't warrant using one.

Silas moved to another corner of the ruins. Ned was retrieved by the Shadow Eaters using the same method. What amazed Silas was that Ned was completely unharmed and fast asleep, snoring! According to the Shadow Eaters, Ned was similarly protected in a corner of a restroom, and he was even luckier than Misty.

Suddenly, a Shadow Eater jumped in front of Silas, clutching a backpack in its mouth.

"Peter's backpack?" Silas stood up, picked it up, and dusted it off. The backpack was discovered right next to Ned.

Silas looked at Ned, then at the backpack. He realized what this meant: Ned must have discovered Peter's secret identity.

"Take the backpack. As for this guy, let him sleep. He can go home when he wakes up," Silas said, no longer concerned about Ned, since he was fine.

Silas left the scene with all his Shadowkhan. The rescue workers noticed that their unexpected helpers had vanished, leaving them bewildered.

"Rescue complete." As long as Misty and Ned were saved, Silas didn't care about the rest.

At Home

Silas returned to his room. He glanced at the quietly sleeping Big Black on the bed.

As soon as Big Black saw Silas return, he ran to him and whined, "Master, Little Black dared to confiscate your game console earlier! Is that acceptable to you?!"
