Chapter 23 - Mutated

The train roared through the night—its wheels screaming against the metal rails, sparks trailing behind like dying fireflies. Wind tore across the roof, stinging like needles, the world reduced to cold steel and endless dark.

Simmons stood at the edge of the final carriage, his silhouette shaking under the flickering warning lights. His phone pressed to his ear.His voice low.Breathing uneven.

"Ada… you promised me."

Static crackled.

A familiar woman's voice—smooth, unbothered.

ADA: "Promised? Simmons… You misunderstand. I said I'd cooperate. I never said I'd be loyal."

Simmons' jaw tightened.

"You used me… used the Neo-Umbrella network… used everything we built—just to steal missile data to bsaa traitors? Betray me at the last moment?!"

A sigh from Ada.

ADA: "You became too obsessed. I don't follow madmen. Not anymore."

Simmons' hand shook.

"You… you were supposed to stand beside me… I did all of this for you—!"

Ada's voice softened, but it wasn't sympathy. It was pity.

ADA: "You did it for power, Simmons. Don't lie to yourself."

The connection beeped.

Cut.

Simmons stared at his phone—silent, cold, final.

Then—

He crushed it in his fist.

Glass shattered, metal bent, sparks spat from the crushed circuits.

His voice came out as a whisper.

"…Ada… why…"

But the moment ended.Footsteps thundered across the roof.

Leon, Helena, and Nobita finally reached him.

Wind slapped their faces, the speed threatening to throw them off balance. Leon had his handgun raised, stance firm. Helena aimed her shotgun, eyes narrowed.

Nobita's grip tightened on his dagger—his breathing steady, jaw clenched.

Leon stepped forward first.

"Simmons… it's over. Stop running."

Simmons didn't turn.

Only his shoulders heaved.

"You don't understand, Leon. None of you ever understood what had to be done…"

Helena's voice cracked with anger.

"You infected the President! You destroyed everything!"

"Because he wouldn't listen!" Simmons spun around, face twisted with desperation."He wanted to expose the truth—expose us! The world needs a strong system, Helena. A controlled world. A civilized world. Not chaos."

Leon shouted, "YOU ARE the chaos!"

Simmons' eyes twitched—something unstable flickered deep inside.

Nobita stepped closer, steady but emotional.

"Where's the remote, Simmons? The missile is still active… people will die."

Simmons' expression changed—calm, suddenly too calm.

"You want the remote?"

He slowly reached into his jacket.

Pulled out the small metal controller.

A red light pulsed on it—meaning the missile was still armed. Still ready.

Leon raised his gun higher.

"Don't you dare—"

Simmons smirked.

"You think you can disarm this? You think that android cat or your little BSAA toys can hack it?"He looked Nobita dead in the eyes."This remote is made with forbidden encryption. Only I can disable it."

Nobita's eyes widened.

"Then disable it! NOW!"

Simmons tilted his head.

"No."

And then—

He threw it.

A light arc through the night.

Far.

Down.

Into the dirt and gravel beside the railway track.

Nobita's scream tore from his chest.

"NOOOOO—!!"

He rushed to the edge, dropping to his knees, reaching toward the blurred ground rushing below.

The remote bounced once.Twice.Then shattered under a wheel.

Leon froze.Helena gasped.

Nobita's voice cracked—raw, broken.

"…why… why did you do that… why would you kill innocent people… WHY!?"

Simmons exhaled—almost peacefully.

"Because sacrifices must be made. And people like us… we stand above them."

Nobita stood up slowly.

His face changed.

No fear.

No shaking.

Just a cold, trembling wrath.

His voice was low.Deadly.Un-Nobita-like.

"You're not above anyone, Simmons."

Simmons raised an eyebrow.

Nobita continued, stepping forward, eyes burning.

"You're not a leader. You're not a visionary. You're just a weak man hiding behind power you stole."

Leon blinked at the tone—this wasn't the Nobita they knew.

Helena whispered, "He's… serious…"

Nobita walked until he was only a few feet from Simmons.

"Listen carefully."He pointed the dagger directly at him."I will stop you. Even if you turn into a monster, even if this train explodes, even if I die on this roof—I WILL STOP YOU."

Simmons' face twitched.Nobita's words hit him harder than any bullet.

And then—

Simmons snapped.

"You dare… YOU DARE TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!?"

His veins bulged.

His fingers clawed at his skin.

Heat rippled from his chest.

Leon stepped back.

"Helena—he's mutating!"

Simmons screamed—A deep, animalistic howl tearing from his lungs.

Fire burst from his skin. His clothes burned away, falling as black ash.His flesh cracked, muscle fibers writhing under the surface. His spine cracked outward. His face stretched, jaw widening, teeth turning into fangs.

Helena fired. "MOVE!"

BOOM!

The shot hit Simmons' shoulder—but he didn't flinch.Blood hissed like steam.

He bent forward—Bones shifting.Skin tearing.

Until finally—

The thing standing before them was no longer human.

A massive, centaur form made of muscle fibers, tendons, and exposed bone.Eyes glowing fiery yellow.Breathing like a furnace.

Leon fired three shots.

BANG—BANG—BANG!

The creature snarled and jumped—its leap shaking the entire train roof.Helena barely dodged, falling onto her elbow.

Leon shouted, "HELENA!"

The creature roared and landed behind them—cutting off escape.

Wind howled.

Metal screamed.

Nobita didn't blink.

He stepped in front of Leon and Helena.

He lifted his dagger.

His voice cold as steel.

"Come."

The monster roared so loud the train shook.

A deep, vibrating, soul-shaking roar.

Nobita whispered without fear—

"…Good."

The mutated Simmons charged.

At the same time—

A faint buzzing sound grew louder in the sky behind them.

Leon looked back fast.

"Oh god—"

Helena's jaw dropped.

Doraemon.Shizuka.Gian.Suneo.Dekisuki.

All five—blasting through the sky with bamboo copters at maximum speed, wind screaming behind them.

Doraemon's voice echoed in panic.

"NOBITA—!!"

Gian shouted, "WE'RE COMING, BRO!"

Suneo cried, "FLY FASTER, FASTER!"

Shizuka goes faster than others, tears in her eyes.

Dekisuki navigated as fast as he could.

The night blurred.

The train hit a curve.

The monster lunged.

And Nobita stood alone against it.

The chapter ends.
