Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: Hanzo Becomes Shinda

Hanzō watched as Tsunade and the other two forced the Rain-nin leader away from the battlefield. The corners of his mouth curled up beneath the mask.

"I'm right here, boy."

Kawaze looked up when he heard the voice. Hanzō was standing atop a tree not far from the battlefield.

His scythe spun wildly—someone unaware might think he was playing with a windmill.

So you want to see how many hydroponic clones I have?

Kawaze couldn't tell whether this was the real body, but he knew one thing—Water clones never stray far from the original.

He pulled out a specially-made senbon from his tool pouch and threw it at Hanzō. His aim was perfect.

The special senbon moved at more than twice the speed of a normal one.

In the blink of an eye, it was already in front of Hanzō.

Hanzō dodged with ease, but Kawaze appeared beside him the next instant.

The eight-edged Han sword stabbed straight into Hanzō's heart without hesitation.

"You're strong, but unfortunately… this is only a clone."

With that, Hanzō dissolved into water and vanished.

Kawaze immediately sensed something was wrong.A man called a "demigod" wouldn't lose to a single water clone.

He hadn't even finished the thought when Hanzō's voice echoed from nearby again.

"Don't you want to see how many clones I have?"

Kawaze turned back toward the battlefield. Dai and Sakumo were still leading the Konoha forces, cutting down the Rain ninja.

But Tsunade and the other two were nowhere to be seen—they must've found something.

And since Hanzō was here, Tsunade and the others should be safe.

With that thought, Kawaze didn't hesitate anymore—he would eliminate Hanzō first.

He charged forward, moving farther and farther from the battlefield.

Lightning nature chakra gathered on his blade, the tip extending outward, pulling Hanzō into its attack range in an instant.

In Hanzō's terrified gaze, Kawaze flicked his sword lightly, felling trees across the entire forest.

"Found you."

Kawaze noticed another Hanzō hiding behind a nearby tree and smiled.

"Damn it."

Hanzō cursed and formed hand seals.

"Water Release: Jetting Explosive Current!"

A massive torrent burst from his mouth, rushing toward Kawaze and flooding the forest into a miniature lake.

"Too slow."

A flash of lightning—Kawaze appeared before Hanzō in an instant.

He raised the Han sword high, ready to cleave the man's head. He intended to finish this with his blade.

"Summoning Technique!"

Hanzō kept casting—he knew he couldn't escape Kawaze's speed.

A burst of smoke exploded between them—the sword struck something hard.

A giant snail appeared, two long horns protruding from its shell, barnacles covering its body.Kawaze's blade gouged a deep scar into the shell—but the recoil sent him skidding back into the water.

"You're not Hanzō."

Fear spread across Kawaze's face. Then Tsunade's group is in danger.

And by the time he realized it—it was already too late.

When the smoke cleared, "Hanzō" transformed into Shinda.

"Ninja Technique: Conch Whip."

Flesh-colored tendrils shot out from Shinda's body, whipping toward Kawaze.

"I don't have time to waste with you. Let's wrap this up."

Kawaze swung his sword, slicing through every whip, then dashed toward the giant salamander floating on the lake.

"Ninja Technique: Conch Spear!"

Black spears shot from the barnacles on the snail monarch, aiming straight for Kawaze.

"Thunderclap."

One swing—the spears shattered, and Kawaze closed the distance to Shinda.

In the next second, he could sever Shinda's throat.

But Shinda was prepared—the snail shell slowly opened.

"Water Release Genjutsu: Ice Mist Prison."

Snow drifted out from the snail, blanketing Kawaze.

His body slowed; it felt as if snow weighed him down until he could no longer move.

Kawaze fell into Shinda's genjutsu.

"Sword master, you say? Aren't you just like the others?"

Shinda grinned, drawing a kunai, ready to deliver the finishing blow.

"Immortal Magic."

Kawaze's body remained still—but red curse patterns appeared around his eyes, his pupils turning gold.

A burst of senjutsu chakra shattered the illusion instantly.

"Lightning Speed."

Kawaze shot forward, the sword flashing through Shinda. The eight-edged Han sword vanished from his hand.

"Tsunade—wait for me."

Without sensing a Flying Thunder God marker, Kawaze shot upward, darting between the treetops, chasing in Tsunade's direction.

Neither he nor Shinda had returned to warn Dai or Sakumo.

Shinda was still smiling, kunai in hand, seemingly unharmed.

But his body split in two when it hit the water, blood spreading in a circular bloom across the lake.

—Scene Break—

Tsunade and the other two chased the Rain Village leader into a valley surrounded by mountains, with only a single exit.

"You can't escape."

Orochimaru noticed the Rain-nin leader slowing down. He closed in, sword slashing.

Several snakes shot from his left sleeve.

"Why would I run?"

The masked voice of the Rain-nin leader oozed pride.

The voice was strangely familiar to Orochimaru.

"The same trick won't work on me."

A puff of smoke—the Rain-nin leader transformed into Hanzō.

Orochimaru's snakes were cut apart; chains locked his sword. If he hadn't released it instantly, Hanzō's next strike would've pierced him.

"Hanzō of the Salamander."

Tsunade finally grasped the situation—they had been lured into a trap.

This was Hanzō's plan all along.

Orochimaru stepped back, joining Tsunade and Jiraiya.

Once again, Konoha and Rain ninja clashed violently in the valley.

"Salamander!"

Hanzō shouted.

A massive salamander burst from the ground—it had been waiting in ambush. It spewed a cloud of poison over the battlefield.

Though the Konoha ninja quickly took Tsunade's antidote pills, they were still heavily affected.

Their movements slowed. Chakra circulations faltered.

The tide of battle shifted toward the Rain ninja.

Tsunade and the others were powerless to stop it.

"You're all staying here today."

Standing upon the fire salamander's back, Hanzō pointed his scythe at the Sannin.

"Come on then. Kawaze-kun will be here soon."

"Summoning Technique."

Tsunade was the first to summon Katsuyu.

"Lady Katsuyu, please—help us. We are Konoha ninja."

"Of course, Tsunade-chan."

Katsuyu multiplied, scattering across the battlefield, aiding the Konoha ninja.

At last, their collapse was temporarily halted.

"Summoning Technique!" ×2

Jiraiya and Orochimaru summoned Gamabunta and Manda.

"Again with that giant salamander…"

Gamabunta groaned. He really didn't want to deal with it.

"Jiraiya, you called me here just to fight this slimy fish?"

Despite being smaller than the fire salamander, Gamabunta wasn't afraid at all.Smoking his pipe, he already had his dagger drawn.

A short dagger.

"Don't underestimate him. He's extremely dangerous."

Jiraiya's expression was grim. From Hanzō's earlier clash with Orochimaru, he knew this battle would be brutal.

"Strength Enhancement!"

Tsunade activated her Strength of a Hundred technique, the markings spreading across her cheeks.

She rushed toward the salamander first, sending rocks exploding in her wake.

"That family of Kawaze's really does take care of its belongings…"

"Heavenly Foot of Pain!"

Tsunade leapt high and brought her heel crashing down onto the salamander's head.
