Chapter 48 - Feelings from Hiyori Shiina (Bonus Chapter)

"Just advanced the timeline a little bit?"

"No way. If we didn't get involved, people would probably just think the source of his massive points was unclear, right?"

Hearing Arisu Sakayanagi's explanation, Masumi Kamuro expressed doubt.

Normally, even if Natsuki Subaru continued to maintain lavish spending while most classmates around him were poor, it would just be that. Everyone might have some doubts or thoughts in their hearts, but it would be limited to that.

But what Arisu Sakayanagi intends to do is to make everyone in Year 1, Class D point their spears directly at Natsuki Subaru. In that case, the nature of the situation would be completely different.

"Little Masumi is still too naive in how she sees things." Arisu Sakayanagi smiled slightly and said, "Natsuki-san has never had any intention of hiding it, you know."

"In other words, once someone asks, Natsuki-san might just show his personal point balance directly, just like he sent me that screenshot. That's why I said, I only advanced the timeline by a tiny bit."

Moreover, the reason an open plot is called an open plot is because the other party will cooperate. If the other party were guarding against these things, Arisu Sakayanagi wouldn't be able to carry out such a thing easily. In the end, it's just that Natsuki Subaru hasn't cared about these things from the start.

This is also the point Arisu Sakayanagi is most interested in. Does he genuinely not care, or is he pretending not to care? We'll know soon enough.

...

The 'accidental encounter' with Arisu Sakayanagi was nothing more than an insignificant interlude for Natsuki Subaru. After ending his exchange with Arisu Sakayanagi, Natsuki Subaru arrived at the library. Hiyori Shiina was already in one of the seats.

Natsuki Subaru walked straight over, sat down naturally in the seat opposite Hiyori Shiina, and at the same time took out the novel Curtain, which he had gotten from the library.

For a while now, under Hiyori Shiina's recommendation, Natsuki Subaru had been reading the Hercule Poirot series. After finishing the most brilliant and classic representative works, he naturally continued reading through the series. Now, he had reached the final work.

"Natsuki-kun, how is it?"

Sensing Natsuki Subaru's movement, Hiyori Shiina lifted her head slightly. Upon seeing it was Natsuki Subaru, a look of joy appeared on her face, and she asked expectantly, "How are you finding Curtain?" As she spoke, a glint of cunning flashed in Hiyori Shiina's eyes.

As a book lover whose usual hobby was reading mystery novels, Hiyori Shiina had naturally read every single novel in the Poirot detective series without missing one; otherwise, she wouldn't have recommended them to Natsuki Subaru.

So, the pitfalls Hiyori Shiina had stepped into, she naturally couldn't wait for Natsuki Subaru to step into as well to see. She wanted to see what kind of expression her fellow enthusiast would have after finishing the final book in the Poirot detective series. It had a similar effect to Natsuki Subaru's anticipation of the development between Kikyo Kushida and Suzune Horikita.

"Although I haven't completely finished it yet, I'm almost there. Shiina-san really recommended a somewhat unacceptable parting gift."

Hearing Hiyori Shiina's inquiry, Natsuki Subaru leaned back slightly, chuckled softly, and said, "From the standpoint of a very pure book fan, I actually find it somewhat hard to accept Detective Poirot's final outcome. Perhaps, if I were in the era when it was first published, I would have joined everyone in causing a ruckus. All in all, could it be that this is the book you truly wanted me to read from the very beginning, Shiina-san?"

As he spoke, Natsuki Subaru held Curtain in his hand and waved it in Hiyori Shiina's direction. All the previous Poirot detective series were just paving the way for this final book. Only by reading the entire series can one truly understand the feeling when Detective Poirot brings down the curtain.

"Hee hee, not at all." The corners of Hiyori Shiina's mouth curled up, looking like a kitten whose prank had succeeded, and she said with a giggle, "When I finished reading this book back then, I was also very sad, you know."

"Then I'll interpret it that way for now." Natsuki Subaru paused for a moment and said with a smile, "The pain Hiyori Shiina-san felt back then, I have felt it. Consider it sharing the same feeling with Shiina-san."

"Well then, let's change the mood a little!"

Hiyori Shiina glanced at Natsuki Subaru's expression and nodded thoughtfully.

Having been in contact with Natsuki Subaru for a month now, just as Natsuki Subaru could understand Hiyori Shiina and felt she was getting closer to the image in his mind, Hiyori Shiina naturally also noticed the issues with Natsuki Subaru through their continuous contact.

"Do you want to try this book? I personally super recommend it."

Hiyori Shiina took out a brand-new packaged book and handed it to Natsuki Subaru. This was a novel Hiyori Shiina had solemnly chosen. She had originally planned to choose an appropriate time to give it to Natsuki Subaru, but now, Hiyori Shiina instinctively felt that the time had come.

"The Devotion of Suspect X..."

Natsuki Subaru took the novel Hiyori Shiina handed over and asked with some confusion, "This must be something you bought with your own personal points, Shiina-san. Are you letting me read a brand new novel just like that?"

As he spoke, Natsuki Subaru glanced at the novel's price tag. This wasn't a regular edition, but a hardcover edition, worth one thousand eight hundred personal points.

"I remember Shiina-san only has less than fifty thousand personal points this month. Spending one thousand eight hundred personal points directly to buy a brand new hardcover novel is really too extravagant!" Natsuki Subaru let out a sigh of admiration.

"Hmph, it's just the cost of one of your meals, Natsuki-kun." Seeing Natsuki Subaru's slightly exaggerated expression, Hiyori Shiina snorted lightly and said somewhat unnaturally, "If you hadn't said that reading the web version didn't have any feeling, Natsuki-kun, I wouldn't have bought it. Consider this a small compensation for making you read Curtain, Natsuki-kun."

The tips of Hiyori Shiina's ears were slightly red. Seeming to feel that her reason didn't hold water at all, she hurriedly changed the subject and said, "Besides, never mind me, you should also save your points a little in the future, Natsuki-kun. Even if you have a lot of personal points, it's only been one month since school started, and there are still three years left.

"Although there should be ways to increase class points in the future, it will probably be very difficult. With one million personal points, given your consumption level, Natsuki-kun, I'm afraid you won't even last a year."
