Tín began with a question disguised as a kick.
The front leg moved without warning, heel cutting toward Thuận's thigh. Not full power. Enough to ask whether Thuận would retreat, brace or reveal a trained redirection.
Thuận stepped outside the line.
Tín's second kick arrived before the first foot settled.
Chain movement.
Toàn Năng built public confidence through repeatable structure. Anyone trained correctly could understand where force came from. The terrifying part was not secrecy. It was how much damage clarity could produce.
Thuận received the kick on his forearm and turned his waist.
Tín recovered before the return reached his center.
Around the mat, students raised phones. The official broadcast camera remained on its tripod. Tân Phong watched the smaller black module beside it.
Its light changed from green to yellow.
"Twenty seconds," Tân Phong said.
Tân Thành did not look away from the exchange. "Since what?"
"Since the hidden camera started writing something."
On the mat, Tín advanced through narrow combinations. Low kick. Straight hand. Shoulder pressure. Every movement occupied the space before Thuận could turn it into a larger circle.
Thuận gave ground.
The crowd interpreted retreat as loss.
Tín did not. "You are protecting the mat edge."
A first-year volunteer crouched there holding spare pads. If Thuận completed the redirection, Tín would be sent toward him.
"The edge did not consent," Thuận said.
Tín changed direction and drove a body punch into the space Thuận had opened.
Thuận caught the wrist and elbow.
For one breath, Tín's force entered cleanly.
Hoàn Hoa offered a return.
Thuận felt the temptation to add something. Enough pressure to make the public fighter stumble. Enough correction to prove restraint was not weakness.
The crooked lantern appeared in memory.
He returned only what arrived.
Tín moved two steps sideways and stopped upright.
The audience made a disappointed sound. No fall. No finish.
Tín smiled.
"Again."
The second exchange became faster. Tín used kicks to reduce the field. Thuận used angles to keep the field from becoming owned. Neither chased the head. Both watched the volunteer at the edge, the camera, the feet of the crowd.
At one minute, the hidden module flashed orange.
At ninety seconds, Tân Phong moved behind the broadcast stand and placed his own phone beneath the module. Its lens reflected a diagnostic screen visible only at the correct angle.
`Pattern divergence: LUC-HOA probable.`
He captured the reflection, not the device.
On the mat, Tín attempted a shoulder entry. Thuận yielded, caught the upper arm and rotated. Tín anticipated the throw, widened his base and used the resistance to pull Thuận into a knee line.
Thuận released before the trap closed.
Both stepped back.
Three minutes ended with neither on the floor.
Some students booed politely.
Tín bowed.
Thuận returned it.
The official approached with a satisfied expression. "The assessment is complete."
"No," Tín said.
The official stopped.
"This was a Toàn Năng challenge. Your consent form was refused."
"The event safety system still recorded-"
"Then delete what it recorded."
The room around them did not notice the political line being crossed. A microphone announced the next demonstration. Parents shifted seats.
The official lowered his voice. "The Union authorized this event."
"Toàn Năng authorized my mat. Proper strength stands in public. So should proper procedure."
Tín held out his hand for the storage card.
The official did not give it.
That refusal changed Tín's face more than any strike had.
Later, outside beneath the sports-center awning, Tân Phong showed him the reflected diagnostic screen.
Tín read `LUC-HOA probable` twice.
"They identified your method without a declaration."
"They wanted to," Thuận said.
"Why?"
"That is the question we refused to bleed for."
Tín looked back through the glass at the public banners.
For the first time, Toàn Năng's visibility had not protected him from being used. It had only given the hidden camera a cleaner angle.
Tín requested the recording card through Toàn Năng's association channel before leaving.
The reply arrived while he sat alone on the concrete steps behind the center.
`Union safety equipment falls outside challenge jurisdiction.`
Below it, an older Toàn Năng instructor had added:
`Do not damage institutional cooperation over one ambiguous device.`
Tín read the message until the word ambiguous became an insult.
Thuận sat two steps below without invitation. He held a cold bottle against the forearm that had received Tín's kicks.
"You knew they might refuse," Tín said.
"I knew authority prefers unclear borders."
"Lục Hoa teaches distrust?"
"Lục Hoa teaches listening. Distrust is something I practiced elsewhere."
Tín looked at the bruising beginning beneath Thuận's skin. "You could have thrown me at the first edge."
"A volunteer was there."
"Then at the second."
"The camera wanted a complete return."
"You let equipment determine your technique."
"I let the purpose determine it."
Tín considered the distinction.
"Toàn Năng would say hidden restraint cannot build public trust."
"Public trust built around an edited measurement is advertising."
Neither persuaded the other.
That made the conversation useful.
At school on Monday, a thirty-second clip of their exchange circulated without the consent dispute. Khánh Vy watched Thuận step backward again and again while comments called him afraid, slippery or secretly skilled.
The clip ended in a red frame:
`CORRECT STRENGTH HAS NOTHING TO HIDE.`
It omitted the volunteer at the mat edge, the hidden camera, the mother's objection and Tín demanding deletion. Khoa had not falsified a single movement. He had changed what every movement appeared to answer.
She paused at the moment his eyes moved toward the volunteer outside the frame.
"What were you looking at?" she asked.
"The edge."
"That means something to you."
"It meant someone was standing there."
She replayed the clip and found only a cut.
Another missing explanation. Another weekend where Thuận had entered a fight and returned with a practical reason.
She handed back the phone without saying whether she believed him.
Tân Phong obtained the event's public upload schedule from the contractor page. The clip had been rendered eleven minutes before the exhibition officially ended. Its project label still carried Khoa's initials.
Hạo Nhiên looked at the red frame once.
"Hồng Y," he said.
Tân Thành frowned. "A sect edits school videos?"
"A faction survives by doing work society already pays for. Events. Advertising. Reputation. Crisis language. The hidden method begins where the useful service stops admitting what it changes."
Thuận watched the frame turn his refusal into guilt. "And Khoa?"
"Still outside their deepest door," Hạo Nhiên said. "That makes him eager enough to be useful."
That evening, Tín repeated the three-minute exchange alone at his club. He reconstructed every retreat and discovered Thuận had not yielded in a straight line once. Each step had moved danger away from a person, camera or hard edge.
His instructor called that inefficient fighting.
Tín wrote another phrase in his private notes:
`Efficiency depends on what the fighter counts as part of the field.`
He did not submit the note to Toàn Năng.
