When Mira stepped back out of the bedroom, a faint, lingering smile still rested on her lips, as if the warmth from moments ago hadn't fully faded yet. Her fingers absentmindedly brushed against the fabric of her dress as she stepped into the hallway, her eyes scanning the quiet space.
"Cassian?" she called gently, her voice floating through the apartment.
Silence answered her.
Her brows drew together slightly, confusion flickering across her expression. She stepped further into the hall, her gaze shifting toward the living area where the soft clatter of toys filled the otherwise still apartment.
The kids were sprawled across the floor, completely absorbed in their little world. Bright colored blocks, miniature cars, and scattered plush toys surrounded them like a small battlefield of imagination.
"Did you see him?" she asked softly, crouching slightly so her voice wouldn't startle them.
