Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – Wedding Betrayal

Selena Virelle had always imagined her wedding day differently. The soft glow of morning sunlight through the cathedral windows, the gentle hum of a string quartet, the smiling faces of family and friends… all the clichés she had dreamed of. But as she stepped into the grand hall, all of that fantasy shattered.

Her fiancé, the man she had trusted with her heart, stood at the altar… holding the hand of another woman. Her stomach dropped, bile rising in her throat. Whispers echoed across the room. Her mother's hand gripped her arm tightly, not in comfort but in silent condemnation.

"Selena… what is she doing here?" her voice trembled, barely audible.

Her best friend—once her confidante—smiled faintly, a cruel gleam in her eyes. "Looks like someone's finally revealed their true colors, darling."

Time slowed. Every eye in the hall turned toward her, and for the first time, Selena felt the weight of humiliation crush her chest. Her carefully constructed world had collapsed in an instant.

"Selena, we… I…" Her fiancé tried to speak, but the words felt hollow. The hall erupted in murmurs and soft gasps. The entire wedding had turned into a spectacle of betrayal.

And then he appeared.

Damian Kael. The name alone carried a storm. A man feared by everyone in the city, whispered about in business circles and criminal networks alike. Cold. Ruthless. Untouchable. And yet, at that precise moment, he walked through the grand doors, tall, sharp-suited, his gaze slicing through the crowd like a blade.

He didn't speak at first. He simply looked at her—the humiliation on her face, the trembling of her hands—and the faintest flicker of interest crossed his eyes. Then, in that quiet, terrifyingly commanding tone, he said:

"Leave him. All of them. You're wasting your time with people who don't deserve you."

The room fell silent. Everyone turned to see Selena's savior—or perhaps her doom.

Her voice caught in her throat. "Who… who are you?"

Damian's lips curved into a shadow of a smile. "Names don't matter. What matters is this: you have two choices. Stay here, rot in the ashes of betrayal… or come with me. One year. One contract. I'll take care of everyone who's hurt you. But understand this—don't think for a second you can change me."

Selena blinked, trying to process his words. His presence was overwhelming. Dangerous. And for reasons she couldn't explain, she felt a strange pull toward him. Something about him was… different. Not entirely untouchable, perhaps. A crack in the armor, only she seemed to notice.

The whispers grew louder. "Who does he think he is?" someone muttered. "The tycoon? The monster?"

Selena's mind raced. She wanted to say no. She wanted to run. But the humiliation, the anger, the helplessness—it all swirled into a storm inside her. Maybe… just maybe… she could survive this nightmare if she took him up on the offer.

She looked into his eyes, and for the first time, she wondered if the rumors about Damian Kael were entirely true. Fear and curiosity tangled inside her chest, and a strange, forbidden hope sparked.

"I… I'll go with you," she said, her voice steady despite the trembling in her hands.

Damian's gaze softened ever so slightly—not for the world, but for her. A flicker of something unspoken passed between them, a silent acknowledgment of danger, power, and… something else, something forbidden.

"Good," he said simply. "Welcome to your new life. Just remember this: trust no one, obey only me, and survive. That will be enough… for now."

And with that, Selena stepped into a world she could never have imagined, a world of power, secrets, and darkness.

One thing was certain: nothing would ever be the same again.

And Damian? He already knew she was different. Only she could see the weakness he hid from everyone else. And for reasons he refused to admit even to himself… he wanted to see how far she could go.
