Chapter 27 - A Date? Don't Misunderstand!

Sunless and Sonia could be seen outside the hospital grounds.

Sonia was glancing nervously around. This was the first time she'd be going on a date!

"Where should we go to?" Sonia asked, however Sunless was clueless.

Sonia had offered a suggestion and he accepted without thinking too deeply about it.

But now, he realised he didn't know any good place for drinks.

He forced a smile, and a place surfaced in his memory.

While they were on their way, he had briefly glanced in that direction and found the decoration particularly warm and pleasing.

"It'll be a surprise," Sunless replied after a few seconds of silence.

"Okay." Sonia sweetly smiled in expectation.

The two boarded a taxi and Sunless directed the driver to the place before paying the required dollars.

After entering the estate, he and his sister had seen thousands of dollar bills, so he wouldn't be running out of cash any time soon.

It was exactly because of this that, despite the place looking slightly luxurious, Sunless was confident he could afford it.

Sonia stepped down from the vehicle after him and was almost blown away by the golden engravings lining the wall.

She turned to Sunless in shock, and seeing his confident smile, she decided to trust him with the situation.

Still, she couldn't help feeling worried. After all, where could Sunless have gotten such an amount of cash in merely days?

Unwilling to think anything bad, she followed along with Sunless, and the two were welcomed into the exquisite building.

"Welcome, guests. We offer a discount for couples. Please, this way." A polite-looking young man immediately welcomed them the moment they stepped into the place.

A friendly smile was on his face as he led them toward a table before handing them a tablet with the menu written on top.

Sunless glanced around and noticed that surrounding him were tables similar to his.

It was just a singular table, with a barbecue stove perfectly embedded into it, and the chairs seemed large enough to fit two people.

He noticed a few couples sitting beside each other, with some entangled in each other's embrace and others just sitting opposite one another like it was a first date… gisting and sipping luxurious wine.

The sight of a few couples kissing made Sonia slightly blush as the thought of her and Sunless in such a compromising position appeared in her mind.

'I… can't! I'd be too embarrassed to face the outside world…' Sonia muttered in her heart.

She didn't know why she suddenly developed feelings for Sunless a few years ago… but she couldn't help it.

Her, a lady of 24, was actually in love with an 18 year old guy? Who'd believe that?

She shook her head and didn't linger on the age gap, although there was a slight tug at her heartstrings.

'What if Sunless didn't like her in the same manner because of it?'

"What're you getting?" Sunless' words sliced through her thoughts.

"Uh… what?" Sonia asked. She didn't hear what Sunless had just said as her mind was occupied with thoughts.

"I said, what are you getting?" He handed her the tablet after selecting his order.

It wasn't too difficult to use the tablet.

Despite not using something like that in this world, Sunless could easily use it from the knowledge of his previous life.

All he had to do was drag the option he wanted and dump it into the 'tray' on the screen.

Automatically, his order would be sent to the kitchen staff and its preparation would begin.

The polite young man continued staring at them, waiting for Sonia to select her order.

Sonia's gaze lingered on the menu for a while before she chose something simple.

Still considerate of Sunless' budget, she just chose a soft drink with some alcohol and a light spaghetti meal.

After getting her order down, she handed the tablet to the attendant.

He bowed warmly. "I'll be with you shortly." Then he left.

Left alone, Sonia sat facing Sunless and her eyes continued darting around.

She fiddled nervously with her clothes.

It was her first time on a date, and it was with someone she had a crush on!

She didn't know how to go about it.

What should they talk about? What should she say?

Should she pull out her phone and scour the internet for some questions?

No, that would be too inappropriate. She'd always disliked the idea of a boring date, and using your phone while you're on a date would be considered making it boring.

'But am I not making it boring already by maintaining silence?' Sonia flinched at the thought and tried to glance at Sunless, wondering what was going through his mind at this moment.

Was he displeased? Did he find her boring? Would he dislike her? This would be their last date, right? Right?

"How's work been?" Sunless' words cut through her tension.

"Good!" Sonia instinctively replied, then calmed herself and smiled before continuing.

"It's been a little stressful here and there… these days the injuries have been piling up, and as such we have to work more, taking care of patients and all that…"

"Try not to feel pressured," Sunless said with concern. "Have you been able to find out the reason for the sudden increase in injuries?"

Sonia shook her head. "Probably something to do with the gang fights that occasionally happen. This isn't the first time."

She paused for a moment, then changed the topic, finally feeling herself relax.

'Yes! I'm on a date…' Sonia cheered herself inwardly like a little girl.

"How's the new house been? You've been away for a week. Hope you're consistently taking your drugs…"

"Nothing to worry about, ma'am."

"Ma'am?" Sonia glanced at Sunless in surprise and perplexion.

Noticing the teasing expression on his face, she realised she was letting her professionalism as a nurse get in the way of her date.

"I see… uh… have you been in a relationship before?"

'Sonia! What kind of question is that?' The moment the words left her mouth, Sonia immediately scolded herself.

She had said the first thing that came to mind without thinking about the consequences.

She looked up at Sunless and noticed his surprised expression.

His mouth opened to speak, and her heart began pounding loudly…

Suddenly…

"Sir! Ma'am! Here's your meal…"
