Rain's POV:
White snow scatters everywhere as I skid across the ice, my boots sliding out from under me the second I try to gain speed.
The ground is no longer the soft, untouched blanket it once was. It's churned into something treacherous, a slick layer of half-melted snow and frozen slush that reflects the inferno ahead like a cracked mirror.
My body jerks sideways, arms flinging out as I try to steady myself, fingers clawing at empty air. The cold should be brutal, it should be slicing into my lungs and numbing my toes through the thin soles of my boots, but I barely feel it.
My skin is flushed, overheated, prickling not from winter but from the violent heat rolling down the street in waves.
When I lift my head fully, I see it.
Orange flames clawing at the sky.
