Rain's POV:
There's a sound somewhere.
Not loud. Not sharp. Just wrong.
It floats in and out, distant, like it's coming through water, and I try to chase it but my body won't respond.
Something heavy is pressing down on my chest, pinning me, stealing the air from my lungs. I try to inhale and nothing happens.
My eyes feel sealed shut, glued together with something thick and burning, and when I try to move my hands they drift uselessly through nothing, grasping for something solid that isn't there.
My jaw won't open.
I try anyway, forcing it, and pain explodes through my face and neck, a white-hot scream tearing through my body without sound.
Somewhere deep inside me, a voice starts shouting, frantic and panicked.
Wake up.
Wake up.
Wake up.
I cling to that voice like it's a rope.
I try to pull it through me, to make it move my arms, my legs, my mouth, but my body feels disconnected, like it doesn't belong to me anymore.
