David felt Drake's arms around him and felt completely calm, which was the wrong way to feel. The calm was the specific kind that comes when you've already processed a loss and your brain has moved ahead to what comes next.
The Golden Hind hadn't sunk yet — barely. Lü Bu looked at it, said something that sounded like a question, and picked up another handful of arrows.
The volley hit like a second structure collapsing. Arrow after arrow, meteor density, the Golden Hind's remaining hull receiving what it could not structurally absorb. Against Drake's will, David felt something pressed against his chest — and then the cold water came up around him as the ship went under, Drake's body between him and whatever came next.
The Golden Hind disappeared beneath the surface of New Fuyuki Ocean.
[Chat]: OH NO
[Chat]: MY DRAKE WIFE
[Lü_Bu_Chat]: my son Lü Bu is mighty as a ghost and god
[Counter]: he's an Archer who used a bow. isn't that a bit cheap?
[Answering]: I genuinely cannot believe what I just heard.
[Stats_Note]: Lü Bu's visual range as Archer class: approximately 5 kilometers. other Archers in this game: roughly 1 kilometer.
[Also_Stats]: the arrow size is not arrow-sized. those are structural elements being fired as projectiles.
[Condolence_Chat]: I came from Brother Chen's stream. my Drake wife.
[Counter_Condolence]: I have paper from the Lu State. wipe your tears.
[Also_Condolence]: I have beef jerky from the subway and raisins from my desk.
[Chat]: HOW ARE THESE RELATED
The joint stream's room-hopping function meant that as each streamer's situation deteriorated, their viewers migrated. The flow was visible in real time:
Brother Chen's viewers → Little Cat's stream.
Teacher Pu's viewers → already watching Teacher Pu jump up and down on a distant building like he was performing a ritual.
Maverick's viewers → Maverick had just surfaced with salvaged equipment and been immediately driven back underwater by falling debris from Lü Bu's ongoing bombardment of the Prison Castle.
Dai's viewers → Dai, propelled by the blast wave, had drifted to an unknown location in the flood.
Little Cat's stream: previously four to five thousand viewers. Currently four to five hundred thousand viewers, and climbing.
Little Cat did not know this. She was looking at the Holy Church notification.
[You and your Servant have completed the Holy Church's bounty. Reward: 1 Command Seal.]
An extra Command Seal from the Holy Church bounty. Little Cat's guild had told her: first place, at any cost. She'd received the briefing thirty minutes before the broadcast. She'd crammed Holy Grail War content from short videos during the travel time. And then she'd summoned Lü Bu on her first pull.
She looked at Lü Bu's back — the God Force weapon shifting to its next configuration, already loading the next volley — with the specific expression of someone experiencing profound personal luck for the first time.
Lü Bu, with his Archer class's five-kilometer visual range, had personally confirmed: Drake eliminated, Darius III reduced to charred bones and structural damage that would take time to recover from, Nero down on the water's surface breathing more out than in. The Prison Castle, target of the current volley, was structurally compromised. The castle spire was already gone. Hundred Personas Hassan corpses covered the courtyard.
Elizabeth, in the center of the courtyard, held her spear with both hands, covered in blood.
Lü Bu drew for the finishing shot.
Elizabeth's body pitched forward — and the castle dissolved into golden ions simultaneously, the particle dispersal acting as interference, scattering through Lü Bu's arrow's flight path. It struck nothing solid.
Then the seawater began receding. Visibly, rapidly, the flood draining back down at a rate that suggested David's magic furnace had either run out of fuel or been cut off at the source. Lü Bu scanned the directions where Nero and Darius III had fallen.
Both bodies had disappeared.
The Prison Castle's ions were gone.
He lowered the bow. He did not leave the tower. He stood at the top of it and waited, because that was the appropriate thing for a warrior of his standing to do — let the challengers come to him. And if they didn't come, he would wait for his Master to locate them and fire in that direction.
On the ocean surface: quiet.
Underground, in the hollow beneath Ryudou Temple: considerably less quiet.
"I DID IT! I DID IT!"
Wei, the last of the seven streamers, stood in front of sixteen completed robots and felt the specific joy of someone whose three-hour investment had just produced tangible results.
[Wei_Chat]: he made sixteen robots. I watched him make all sixteen. every screw.
[Veteran_Wei_Viewer]: I've been here the whole time. it's beautiful.
[Newcomer]: I just arrived from another stream. you people have been watching robots being assembled for THREE HOURS?
[Veteran_Wei_Viewer]: yes.
[Newcomer]: ...
[Also_Veteran]: the lion head in the suit is Edison. don't ask.
Edison looked at his Master's face with the satisfaction of a man whose long-term investment in human capital was paying off on schedule.
