"How does it look, Master? Can it actually work?"

"No idea. We have to try first. If it doesn't, I'll have Drake fight on solid ground instead."

"No problem! I'll drive her across the land then! Galloping across a steel landscape is a rare experience."

"That's actually possible?"

"Of course. I am a woman who turns the impossible into possible."

Rider. Francis Drake.

That was the Servant David had summoned this time — not through a compatibility pull, but a deliberate trip to Britain to collect the right Holy Relic. What he hadn't anticipated was that Francis Drake was a woman.

In the historical record, the first person to complete a circumnavigation of the globe while still alive was a man. But Drake's unique skill — Pioneer of the Stars EX — granted her a different kind of existence. Servants with that skill were heroes who stood at the turning points of human history, all of them possessing the capacity to make the impossible possible. So when everyone assumed Drake couldn't be female, Drake became female. It was, as Drake herself explained, perfectly consistent with who she was.

David had stared at her for a moment when she appeared. The chat had stared at her for several moments after that.

The explanation was strange, but it held together better than Artoria's, which had no explanation at all and simply demanded acceptance.

What mattered was that David hadn't actually planned to summon Drake specifically. He'd wanted a Servant with a ship — Columbus would have done it, Blackbeard would have done it — and instead he'd drawn the woman who led the British fleet to sink the previously-undefeated Spanish Armada while simultaneously completing the first successful circumnavigation in human history. That was considerably better than what he'd aimed for.

He stood on the deck watching Drake in her crimson captain's coat drink ale in large, unself-conscious gulps, and exercised significant willpower to keep his hands where they were and focus on the materials in front of him.

He turned to the camera.

"I'm sure everyone's been wondering what I'm actually planning. It's simple. Drake can summon her ship. A ship operates best at sea. So what I want to do is also very simple: flood Fuyuki City. Turn the entire city into ocean. Leave every other Servant with no foothold. Then Drake and I fight them from the deck."

[Chat]: ???

[Chat]: ???

[Chat]: bro are you serious

[Chat]: CAN THAT ACTUALLY WORK

[Longtime_Fan]: BROTHER CHEN

[Also_Longtime]: I KNEW IT

[New_Viewer]: why did he go to Britain specifically to get this Holy Relic. NOW I understand.

[Drake_Fan]: the author keeps gender-bending historical figures and I keep losing

[Practical_Question]: but how. how do you flood a city.

David had worked through the mechanics carefully. Three components:

First — Tokiomi Tohsaka, one of the self-controlled NPCs in Fuyuki, used elemental magic including Water Summoning. Enough to fill a swimming pool at best. Insufficient.

Second — the Sanji Magic Furnace that David carried as Kenneth Archibald's starting equipment. The El-Melloi family had modified it from the highest-level fantasy excavated from the Spirit Tomb Albion. The result: a magic furnace that drew endlessly, inexhaustible. No abnormal skills. Just raw, unlimited magical energy. The Columbus-spam strategy David had popularized — land at Ryudou Temple, summon Ashiya Doman, mass-produce enhanced Columbus units underground using the furnace — was built on exactly this foundation.

Third — the Trident of Poseidon, the Holy Relic David had exchanged for using his one Holy Grail War victory. The Servant that win had been a Caster with strong ties to Poseidon. The Trident was her Holy Relic. It could establish the concept of the ocean and anchor seawater in place.

Water Summoning Magic, sourced from Tokiomi's knowledge. Unlimited magical fuel from the furnace. The Trident as the conceptual anchor for "this is now ocean."

Was it the kind of plan that would work in any other game? No. Absolutely not. But this was Holy Grail War, with its highly autonomous AI and its genuinely unlimited simulation space, and David had decided to trust that if Max had scattered these items throughout the game, the game would honor the combination.

He took a breath. Drove the Trident into the core of the furnace.

Now — let the seawater engulf the land.
