Chapter 112: Thermobaric Bombs Also Have a Youth Version and a Deluxe Plus Version, Right?
"But even Teacher doesn't know much about the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path…"
Kenichi finished reading quickly. The experiment log was not long, but it was packed with information.
Orochimaru really was Orochimaru. Kenichi did not know how his teacher had done it, but Orochimaru had already judged that the massive thing was a living creature. It also seemed to possess a strange affinity toward chakra.
Still, everything in the log was only the most preliminary stage of research. Kenichi, however, knew what it truly was, and he also knew what kind of transformation would happen once it gathered all the tailed beasts.
Ah… if only he could tie it down in the lab and experiment on it for three days and three nights.
Kenichi took a deep breath, forcing himself to suppress the surge of excitement. The temptation of the Gedo Mazo was simply too strong.
But now was not the time to study it.
He steadied his thoughts, picked up his quail egg sized metal sphere, and headed outside. Before long, he found the same valley again and began his tests.
After pouring in a massive amount of fixed attribute Sage Mode Wind chakra, Kenichi suddenly felt the quail egg in his hand grow lighter, then lighter still. His expression tightened. He slammed the stopwatch and immediately stepped back.
A moment later, pure chakra burst from the small sphere like a floodgate shattering. The shockwave swept across the valley in an instant. Violent wind tore through everything around it, uprooting trees and hurling them upward from the valley floor and out into the open beyond.
It was the kind of scene where the mountaintop felt like it had been ripped down to the foot of the mountain.
The power was terrifying, but it ended just as quickly. Soon, the small metal sphere fell still.
Kenichi approached cautiously, then frowned in surprise.
It had lost its ability to store chakra.
It was now ordinary metal, at most a little harder than normal.
The good news was that it really could store Sage Chakra.
The bad news was that it was a one time item.
That single fact dramatically reduced its practicality, but it also made the material far rarer, because nobody knew when a meteorite like this would appear again.
"It looks like I need to test what elements are inside this meteorite, and figure out why it can store Sage Chakra," Kenichi muttered, thinking hard.
The meteorite he bought had melted down into three quail egg sized spheres.
He had already used one.
That left two.
Each one cost about 3.33 million taels of silver.
Following Kenichi's plan, a thermobaric bomb would need at least three of these. Before dropping it, he would keep feeding chakra into the spheres until they reached a critical point, then drop the bomb. That should create the fusion he wanted between chakra and a thermobaric explosion.
The problem was the price.
Now the cost had jumped by another ten million taels, which was basically the equivalent of an S rank mission.
And that was not even counting the original production cost of the thermobaric bomb itself.
If he added everything together, a single thermobaric bomb would be worth about twelve S rank missions.
Honestly, it was extravagant.
But if it worked, then fine.
Kenichi pulled out another quail egg sphere. He officially named this metal Superconducting Metal, since it was stronger than ordinary chakra conducting metal and could store and guide natural energy itself.
He took out his unused experimental thermobaric explosive, placed the superconducting metal alongside it, and began pouring in huge amounts of Sage Mode Fire chakra.
The moment he started to feel the heat building, he withdrew quickly. He left the valley and stood at the ridge above.
Seven seconds later, a blinding white light flashed across the valley floor.
Then a fireball surged upward.
A violent heat wave rushed out with the shockwave, slamming into the ridge.
Kenichi narrowed his eyes, staring at the small mushroom cloud rising below, his mind racing.
The power was definitely higher. Even the temperature felt different.
But he did not have equipment capable of measuring the heat at the center of the blast, so he could not tell how much it had increased.
Still, for now, this experiment could be called a complete success.
Superconducting metal could indeed increase the power of thermobaric explosives.
The only uncertainty was whether the increased power came from enhancing the explosive itself, or from the chakra's own destructive force being released at detonation.
Either way, Kenichi's concept was feasible.
He had successfully created a ninjutsu chakra thermobaric bomb, even if he achieved it through a clever workaround.
"The cost is higher, and I keep feeling like it might also be tied to the massive amount of Sage Chakra infused into it…" Kenichi noted down his thoughts carefully.
In his mind, the truly perfect chakra thermobaric bomb should be made by directly infusing chakra into the thermobaric explosive itself, not by relying on a trick like this.
But how to make that happen would take a long period of research.
For now, he had only created the youth version of the Chakra Warming Bullet.
"I'll make one and test it the next time I get a mission." Kenichi looked at the huge crater carved into the valley, then turned and started back. "For now, I should go to the black market and buy the rest of the meteorites."
When Kenichi returned to the experimental base, he froze.
A hand was gripping the threshold.
That alone would not be strange, except for one detail.
There was an eye on the back of the hand.
It was a two tomoe Sharingan.
"It looks like he doesn't have perfect control yet." Orochimaru stepped out with a pen in hand, speaking calmly.
Mara followed behind him.
But in the short time Kenichi had been gone, Mara had already changed drastically.
He now had three extra eyes on his right arm, all Sharingan.
One on the back of his hand.
One on his forearm.
One on his shoulder.
It looked grotesque.
"Oh, Kenichi. You're back?" Orochimaru glanced at him once, then returned to testing.
"Teacher… what is this?" Kenichi asked, staring at Mara with open curiosity.
Mara's expression was complicated too. That was only natural. Anyone would feel strange with three eyes embedded into their arm.
"This is the cooperation agreement from Root." Orochimaru did not turn his head as he spoke. He simply poked at the Sharingan eyes with his finger, asking whether Mara felt anything unusual. "You'll be coming out with me later. There's a mission we need to complete."
"Huh?" Kenichi blinked, caught off guard. "Okay."
At first, he thought Nagato had assigned a task.
Then he remembered he had already submitted an application to Nagato earlier.
So it could not be Nagato.
That meant it was Orochimaru's mission.
Kenichi just did not know what they were going to do.
