Chapter 7 - Farewell

When I arrived at Aydin's house, I could already smell the fish being grilled. It hadn't even been a minute since it was done, yet I no longer felt hungry. I knocked on the door to speak with Aydin.

"Aydin, I'm leaving. I wanted to ask if you have some kind of bag with a lot of space for me. You can keep the fish," I said immediately after knocking.

A minute later, the door opened, and Aydin stood before me holding a small iron backpack.

"I wish you good luck, wanderer. The backpack is made of iron, crafted in the year 5053, just two years ago! May we meet again before the end of the world."He looked happy. But no matter how hard I tried to return that positivity, I simply couldn't. My body wouldn't allow it. I acted without thinking and took the backpack without saying another word.

Then I set off. I fed my camel my last date to give it strength. On the map, a river named Naḥal was marked. Since every city and village on the map was connected to the river, I simply followed its course.

Slowly, night fell, and according to the map we had already covered almost half the distance. So I dismounted and dug a small depression in the sand to sleep in.

At night, I gazed at the stars. I felt no joy as I looked at them. Yet I sensed the camel's excitement and eventually fell asleep, leaning against the animal.
