Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: New Appointment, Klaus's Request

His gaze fell on the communication device as he pressed the answer button with his finger. Patrick's face appeared on the screen.

"Council Chairman!"

Felix stood up and saluted.

Patrick nodded slightly, gesturing for Felix to sit down.

"Take a seat!"

Lowering his hand and nodding, Felix returned to his chair, waiting for Patrick to speak.

Patrick's voice came through the communication. "Felix, how is the situation at Lorentz Military Base?"

"Everything is normal!"

Looking at Patrick, Felix responded.

Patrick nodded with satisfaction upon hearing this, then picked up a document from his desk and read aloud. "After discussion by the Ministry of Defense and approval from the Supreme Council, Felix Leo Griffith is hereby appointed as the Supreme Commander of Lorentz Military Base, with full authority over lunar military affairs."

After finishing, Patrick placed the document back on the desk, a slight smile on his lips as he asked, "Another promotion. How does it feel?"

"The pressure is immense!"

Felix answered truthfully, then continued, "But please rest assured, Council Chairman, I will definitely fulfill my duties."

"Hmm! I believe in you."

Patrick nodded slightly in response.

After speaking, he inquired of Felix, "Are there any difficulties on your end?"

"None at the moment."

Shaking his head in reply, Felix suddenly remembered something and brought it up to Patrick. "Council Chairman, if possible, could we add some recreational facilities to Lorentz Military Base?"

"Recreational facilities?"

"Currently, all construction at Lorentz Military Base is focused on practicality, lacking recreational facilities. In the short term, soldiers stationed here won't mind, but over time, the absence of diverse recreational facilities as a buffer will lead to increasing psychological pressure and emotional strain among the troops. This could significantly impact combat effectiveness."

Nodding, Felix explained to Patrick.

Patrick thought for a moment and agreed. "You make a valid point. The Ministry of Defense will consider this and strive to arrange the corresponding recreational facilities for you as quickly as possible."

"Thank you, Council Chairman."

Felix expressed his gratitude.

Patrick waved his hand and smiled. "No need for thanks. This is what the Ministry of Defense should do."

With that, Patrick ended the communication with Felix. As the call concluded, Felix relaxed.

However, after just a few seconds of relaxation, the doorbell rang from outside.

Turning to look at the door, Felix pressed the door open button.

The office door slid open, and a soldier entered carrying a document.

Approaching Felix, the soldier saluted, then placed the document on the desk and said, "Captain, these are the psychological assessment reports for all the new recruits, as you requested."

Hearing this, Felix remembered the matter.

It all started with that soldier who accidentally discharged his weapon due to nervousness on the battlefield a week ago!

Pulling his thoughts back, Felix picked up the document and scanned its contents. The soldier's test report lay right before him without needing to flip through.

Reading the report, Felix frowned slightly.

Is this the legendary type who aces small tests but gets so nervous during major ones they can't even sit for the exam due to stomach issues?

Muttering inwardly, Felix carefully reviewed all the information about this individual. After finishing, he set the document down on the desk.

"Did the doctor explain how to resolve this condition?"

Felix inquired, looking at the soldier.

Upon hearing this, the soldier replied to Felix.

"Captain, I didn't receive any instructions from the doctor. The solution might be written later in the report."

"Alright, I understand."

Nodding in response, Felix waved him off. The soldier saluted, then turned and left Felix's office.

After he departed, Felix meticulously examined the subsequent sections.

A few minutes later, having read everything, Felix placed the report back on the desk, thought for a moment, and murmured to himself.

"This isn't some training course here. I don't have time to correct this kind of psychological barrier for him."

After saying this, Felix checked which unit the soldier belonged to and, seeing he was in a convoy escort team, took no further action.

In the medical room at Lorentz Military Base

"Doctor, is there a way to quickly resolve this psychological barrier of mine?"

Klaus sat opposite the doctor, his hands clenched tightly on his knees, a sincere and pleading look in his eyes as he made his request.

Dr. Moore looked calmly at Klaus and said.

"This psychological barrier of yours is a relatively common one, caused by an overactive self-preservation mechanism. Simply put, you're too afraid of death and too afraid of failure. This overprotective state isn't usually noticeable; it only becomes apparent during significant events.

Just like in your case—you pass daily tests without issue, but on the actual battlefield, it shows itself."

After hearing this, Klaus's face flushed with shame and frustration, and he lowered his head, unable to meet the doctor's eyes. Dr. Moore glanced at him and continued.

"To solve this problem, you need a life-or-death situation to shock your psyche, helping your mind accept death and failure more calmly."

At this point, Dr. Moore sighed.

"Surviving a near-death experience sounds simple, but it's extremely difficult in practice. Not only is there a high risk of death, but it could also backfire, intensifying your self-preservation mechanism and worsening your condition."

Each word struck Klaus deeply. He lifted his head, as if having resolved himself, and spoke.

"I understand, Dr. Moore."

With that, Klaus stood up, bowed to Dr. Moore, straightened, and turned to leave.

Exiting the base's medical room, Klaus looked down the long corridor ahead, a determined expression on his face, and strode forward toward the left.

Outside Felix's office at the base.

Klaus walked to the door, took a deep breath as he looked at it, and raised his hand to press the doorbell.

After two rings, the door opened.

Observing the minimalist design and decor inside the office, Klaus stepped in.

Felix looked at Klaus as he entered and asked with a smile,

"Klaus, what brings you here?"

Turning to Felix, Klaus saluted and pleaded,

"Captain Griffith, I request to join this decoy operation."

"Give me a reason!"

Felix gazed at him calmly as he asked.

Klaus lowered his hand, took a deep breath, and declared with utmost determination,

"I want to prove myself!"
