Chapter 56 - One Minute to Take Off

Emerging from the pool of blood, Alan lets out a cry of surprise.

"AEH!" before realizing it was Yumiel.

"Ah, it's you, Yumiel—you startled me. Strange abilities, but useful."

Alan hands her his canteen, which she takes, putting the blood back inside after lifting it off the ground.

"Where's Jack?"

"Your teammate? No idea, in the plane I think."

Heading toward the aircraft, she goes inside, Alan following her. She finds Jack at the controls, lying down, repairing the system.

"Jack, we need to move now!"

Jack stood up when he saw Yumiel and Alan, who waved at him. Jack waved back.

"I'm almost done, there's an anomaly in the control panel."

Alan spoke up, cutting Jack off.

"And it's blocking the Falcon's controls, keeping it from taking off—still as temperamental as ever, that one. Let me handle it."

Alan steps in front of Jack, checking the control panel.

"No, but who does he think he is? I can totally fix my beloved Falcon myself."

Yumiel places her hand on Jack's shoulder, then looks him straight in the eyes.

"We don't have time, Jack."

Suddenly, the hangar door begins to shake.

The two look at each other before rushing toward the hangar entrance. The hangar door had stopped moving. Jack and Yumiel arrive in front of the hangar entrance that Jack had completely destroyed.

Yumiel draws blood from her canteen and creates a door, condensing her blood as much as possible to make it more resistant. Jack positions himself just behind the door. Yumiel opens her senses to their maximum, hearing footsteps and feeling vibrations approaching.

"You think it's him?"

Suddenly a hand pierces through Yumiel's door, grabbing Jack and slamming him against the door again and again. Jack tries to break free, striking the arm until it lets go, now hitting Yumiel's crystal door.

Pressed against the door, Jack can see through it and recognizes the hunter down to every detail. Slightly frozen in front of him, Yumiel knew she wouldn't be able to hold him, shouting at Jack to stay still.

"MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, IDIOT!"

Jack reacts, a bit too late but just enough to move away before Yumiel's door explodes, shattering into a thousand pieces. The hunter analyzes quickly, leaping toward Yumiel in the distance, leaving Jack behind. Yet Yumiel doesn't move, gathering her shattered blood and recreating five daggers.

Jack moves, grabbing the hunter's leg before he can get out the door, then violently hurling him against the wall. The hunter is embedded in the wall but stands back up, slowly pulling himself free. Jack doesn't waste time, going straight into close combat.

Both grab each other's hands, beginning a duel of strength. The first to give in could lose their hands… or worse. Yumiel expected Jack to lose, but surprisingly, he was evenly matched. Jack himself was surprised.

Yumiel had finished recreating her daggers, sending them straight at the hunter. With his hands occupied, he kicks Jack, pushing him back, pulls out his pistol, and destroys Yumiel's five daggers before charging at her. Jack tries to catch up to him, but as he accelerates, the hunter throws two discs backward, forcing Jack to dodge.

Reaching Yumiel, defenseless, he draws a sword, preparing a massive slash. Yumiel creates a shield, blood bursting from her skin, deflecting the attack, then charges at him with her shield.

Yet instead of dodging or defending, he pulls out a strange stone and slams it against his sword before stabbing into Yumiel's shield. The blade goes completely through the shield, piercing it.

Jack grabs him from behind by the shoulders, preventing him from moving. He struggles as best he can, striking Jack with his head or elbow, but Jack doesn't give in. Yumiel had just been run through by his sword and grimaced in pain—it had nearly hit her heart. Jack sees Yumiel in bad shape, but she has to seize this chance.

"IDIOT, STOP DAYDREAMING, GO!"

Yumiel takes in the situation, then reabsorbs her shield before pulling the sword out of her body with a groan of pain, "Hrrraaa…", grabbing the hunter's sword and moving toward him.

Moving erratically, Yumiel struggles to stab him, but she manages to pierce him in the stomach. The hunter traps Yumiel's arm with both his legs, flipping her over. She spins through the air before he kicks her, sending her flying several meters away.

Then, in extreme rage mixing anger and pain, he shouts, "NO MONSTER WILL ESCAPE THE LAW OF THE HUNT."

Jack feels the hunter grow stronger—much stronger—breaking free before striking, grabbing Jack, and hurling him into Yumiel. Suddenly, the plane's engines roar to life.

Yumiel couldn't take it anymore; she was completely spent. Jack knew it. The hunter wasn't going to give up, pulling the sword out of his stomach and injecting himself with a syringe that regenerates his wounds.

"We need to open the hangar door—go, Yumiel, I'll hold him off."

Wind and noise flood the hangar. Yumiel moves weakly toward the door's control panel, gathering her blood and shutting down her senses, which were starting to make her dizzy.

Jack and the hunter now stand face to face. They stare at each other for a few seconds before charging at one another.

The hunter grips his sword tightly, trying to slash or stab Jack, who dodges every blow. Jack strikes the hunter's hand, making him drop it, before getting his hair grabbed, taking a few punches to the face, then forcing his head down and driving a knee into him.

Jack doesn't feel pain—that's why he tanks the hits until he's close enough to grab the hunter's coat with both hands. Then, in a surge of rage, he lifts him and throws him to the ground behind him, slamming him hard before climbing on top of him to strike.

Reaching the control panel, Yumiel sees countless buttons, not knowing which one to press. Suddenly her radio crackles to life.

"Kshhh. Yumiel, it's Alan, I see you from the cockpit—press the button on the right."

Yumiel presses it, triggering an alarm blaring throughout the hangar.

"Kshhh. No, that was your right—I mean my right, so the left."

Yumiel sees two buttons on the left, hesitates briefly, then presses both. One opens the door, and the other triggers the water sprinklers.

"Kshhh. The door will take about a minute. I'll start taxiing out of the hangar to reach the runway and take off. Join me as fast as you can when that happens."
