After a week, February 14th arrives - Valentine's Day. Dan was at his desk... resting as always, and next to him, of course, a bag full of chocolates and letters for him, the usual for a popular boy.
Josías, who was in the classroom, approaches Dan, sits in front of him and, confident in their friendship, takes a box of chocolates from Dan's bag.
-Dan, aren't you going to read your letters this year?- Asks Josías while eating the chocolates.
-I already read them, and they're all the same - asking me to go out with them or be friends.
Josías offers some chocolates to Dan.
-Must be tough being popular.
-Kind of, and by the way, where are Brandon and Jhonatan?- Dan takes some chocolates and eats them.
-Isn't it obvious? With their girlfriends.
-You know what? I think you should look for a girlfriend already-
Josías looks at Dan with an almost mocking expression.
-I was thinking the same about you.
-Maybe... Who knows? It could be Noemí because of the bet.
-Could you really fall in love with her?
-I don't know, I don't know her but I don't rule out any possibility.
-If you want to win the bet you have to take the initiative. Noemí obviously won't do it.
-Yes, I know but... When I approach her Noemí avoids me or ignores me.
-Uh... Hmm... What if you send her a letter?.
-But if I do that everyone might find out and spread false rumors. I don't want to get her in trouble like that.
-Hmm... What if you send it to her in secret? Like a secret admirer.
-Isn't it called a secret admirer? But... It could be a good idea.
-Yes, write your letter and then leave it in her locker when no one sees you.
-Hmm... Yes, I have nothing to lose. Let's do it!.
Dan takes out his notebook to start writing the letter.
Josías and Dan spend a few minutes planning the letter. When they finish, they put it in a small envelope.
-Alright, now go and leave it in her locker.
-Okay, I'll be back in a bit.
Dan walks down the hallways. The students look at him with admiration, some greet him and Dan returns the greetings kindly since it doesn't bother him.
Dan reaches the hallway with the lockers. He hides, keeping watch to make sure no one sees him, but someone appears behind him.
-Dan?- Asks the person with a soft voice.
When he turns around Dan realizes it's Emily, the student council president.
Dan sighs in relief that it's Emily.
-Oh, it's you Emily.
-What are you doing here?.
-Oh... I was just... Walking around a bit.
-And... So what were you doing hiding here? You look like you're keeping watch over something.
Dan swallows nervously.
-No... I was just... Making sure students throw their trash in the right place.
Emily looks at him with narrowed eyes, looking for any sign of a lie in his gaze.
-AHHH... I understand. Thank you so much for your help Dan!- Emily believes him and says gratefully.
Dan thinks: "Thank goodness she's a bit dumb".
-Yes, you're welcome.
-Well, I'll leave you be. See you later- Emily says as she walks away down the hallways.
-Okay, take care.- He says relieved.
Dan sighs and finally approaches to leave the letter in the locker. After leaving it he leaves quickly so no one sees him.
When he returns to the classroom Dan says to Josías as he sits back down at his desk.
-All done, it's there. Delivery complete.
Josías smiles while he's already eaten a whole box of chocolates by himself.
-Good... Just to be sure, tell me - which locker did you leave the letter in?.
Dan says with a smile, as if the question is silly.
-What do you mean which one? Locker 89 obviously.
Josías stops eating his chocolates and looks at Dan with a look that says: "I can't believe it".
-Dan... Noemí's locker is number 88.
When Dan hears this he hits his head against the desk - a blow that even startles Josías.
-I'm an idiot.
-Well, I suppose in the letter you addressed it to Noemí right? Like "Hello Noemí" or something.
Dan just shakes his head while keeping his head against the desk.
-Yes, I'm an idiot.
Noemí and Sofía were heading to their lockers to get some things. When they arrive Noemí opens hers and takes out her things, but when Sofía opens hers Dan's letter falls to the floor.
-Huh? What's this?.
Noemí looks at the letter curiously.
Sofía opens the letter and starts reading it for herself and Noemí.
-"Hello nice to meet you, how are you? I'm sending you this letter to say that if you want we could be friends someday. Sincerely: a secret admirer"
-He doesn't seem very smart does he? How am I supposed to reply if he didn't leave anything about himself?
Sofía just laughs and puts the letter in her bag as she leaves again with Noemí, who just smiles at her friend's letter.
By the way, Sofía and Noemí also thought the letter was too formal - something typical of Dan.
