Chapter 35 - Chapter 35

How difficult is life, really?

The journalism club's article appeared the next day, posted on the first-floor bulletin board.

If Watanabe Tetsu remembered correctly, it was supposed to be a special feature about the exams—but the content had nothing to do with the exams at all.

The headline alone was impossible to ignore.

"'The Super Handsome Trio'?"

"They're seriously good-looking!"

"Does our school really have students this beautiful? And they're all freshmen!"

Most of the article was filled with photos. Watanabe Tetsu stood in the middle, smiling. On either side were Seino Rin and Yuki Miki, arms crossed.

The two girls appeared to be looking at him—or maybe at each other.

In reality, neither was true. The photos were secretly taken and edited; the Human Observation Club was the only place all three appeared together.

The overall effect looked like a light novel cover—the two heroines fighting over the male protagonist—making Watanabe Tetsu uneasy. After reading the article, he wanted to take revenge on both the journalism and literature clubs.

{This is the story of three students at the pinnacle of human beauty!}

{The Human Observation Club, which no one had ever successfully joined, faced Watanabe Tetsu's interview declaration: "I like you both—super like! You both should date me, and I will make you happy!"}

{Watanabe Tetsu was scolded, but he was undeterred: "Not just anyone can join! Seino-san, Yuki-san, you are beautiful, smart, diligent, modest, and kind—the epitome of Tokyo beauties, my goal, my guiding light, my life ideal."}

{Facing the shy girls, Watanabe Tetsu continued his bizarre declaration: "Other than Seino-san and Yuki-san, I have no interest in any other human girls. You are my wings!"}

{"Then let's decide everything by grades! Whoever gets first place will lead the Human Observation Club!" Yuki-san proposed.}

{Seino Rin confidently agreed.}

{Watanabe Tetsu, scheming but successful in joining, quietly set his sights on first place!}

{His future—harem? Or defeat?}

{Who will ultimately lead the Human Observation Club?}

{Everyone, war has begun!}

"Do we even have a Human Observation Club at this school?"

"Don't you know? Founded by the Seino family's eldest daughter. Entry requirements are said to be insanely strict."

"Have you ever been?"

"No! Of course not! I just heard about it!"

"Ridiculous—they even use grades to decide… everything."

"Hey, if we get first place, do you think we could get Seino Rin and Yuki Miki as girlfriends too?"

"…"

"Maybe?"

"Definitely!"

"The eldest daughters of the Seino and Yuki families wouldn't go back on their word, right?"

"Literature… Club!" Watanabe Tetsu ground his teeth.

"This is wild, Watanabe," Kunii Osamu said, loving the chaos. "You're literally unfolding like a light novel protagonist!"

Saitō Keisuke laughed. "I guess Kunii and I are the comedic sidekicks who provide info?"

Watanabe Tetsu ignored their jokes and carefully inspected the rain-shielded glass of the bulletin board.

Locked!

He wondered if his third-place exam rank alone could get him away with just a scolding while still wreaking havoc on the school's property.

"Watanabe? Are you the Watanabe Tetsu in the news?"

"I'm not."

"There couldn't be another guy this handsome! You must be him!"

Watanabe Tetsu couldn't refute that logic. He had yet to see another boy this good-looking—at least in Kamikawa Academy and the Shinjuku district.

"Watanabe, is it true you're using grades to decide everything?"

"No, it's false."

"Yes, it's true."

"Ahhh—"

Hearing that cool, clear voice, the crowd around the bulletin board erupted.

Watanabe Tetsu looked at Seino Rin, carrying her school bag like a saint walking by.

"What are you doing?! That's the Literature Club's revenge," he said.

"You mean you want me to lie?" Seino Rin flicked her long hair, eyes scanning the crowd. "Anyone who gets first in this exam will have all conditions in the Human Observation Club granted to them."

Watanabe Tetsu hurried over, grabbing her sleeve. "'All conditions' is not acceptable!"

"This is the president's order." Seino Rin looked at his hand on her sleeve and smiled. "Watanabe-san, you're not afraid, are you?"

Quit the club… Watanabe Tetsu thought.

He didn't have a job right now anyway; staying at school for club activities wasn't a problem.

Just as he was about to speak, Yuki Miki walked over. Her aura was queenly, forcing everyone to subconsciously quiet down—everyone except Seino Rin, who didn't want to talk to her.

Yuki Miki looked at the bulletin board and asked Watanabe Tetsu, "What's going on?"

He explained the unscrupulous journalism club, the Literature Club's revenge, and what Seino Rin had just said.

"How interesting," Yuki Miki said, a venomous smile playing on her lips. "I agree too."

Hopeless. These two women were beyond help.

"Seino-san, when I joined the club, you said I could quit anytime, right?" Watanabe Tetsu asked to confirm.

Seino Rin said, "Oh? Are you really scared?"

"What? Watanabe, you want to quit?" Yuki Miki asked, turning her gaze to him.

"Yes."

Yuki Miki's cold eyes pierced him. "I do not allow it."

"Whether to allow it or not is my right as president, Yuki-san," Seino Rin said, her tone calm but firm.

"The president position will be mine eventually. No need to cling to it, Seino-san," Yuki Miki retorted bluntly.

"I admire your arrogance."

"And I respect your blind optimism."

At this moment, their stances—plus Watanabe Tetsu stuck in the middle—were a real-life version of the photo in the article.

They glared at each other, realizing neither could defeat the other, and both simultaneously turned to Watanabe Tetsu.

"Watanabe-san," Seino Rin teased, "a Tokyo handsome guy should have the confidence to accomplish anything, right?"

"I won't let you quit the club, do you hear me?" Yuki Miki commanded.

'What is life, really?' Watanabe Tetsu wanted to ask God this very question.

"Fine, fine, I agree. Any condition is acceptable."

Seino Rin smiled in satisfaction, Yuki Miki smiled as expected, and Watanabe Tetsu forced a smile.

Just as the Literature Club had said, the three of them were at the peak of human beauty. When all three smiled, the rest of the students were entranced as if by magic.

"Anything? Dating included?"

"Yes," Seino Rin said.

"Joining… as a live-in fiancé too?"

"Of course," Yuki Miki said, with the same deadly smile she had when ordering Watanabe Tetsu killed.

"W-Watanabe-kun… if I get first place, can you smile only at me from now on?"

"No problem."
