Chapter 71: Wang Dong – I'm Changing, Don't You Dare Peek…

"Ugh, fine, I'll let you off easy this time…"

Wang Dong gave Ye Chen a resentful glare, then pulled the blanket up around herself, curling into the corner of the bed. Only her head peeked out as she stared intently at him.

"Hmph, even asleep, you look kind of cute… too bad you're such a bad guy," she murmured softly while watching Ye Chen's sleeping profile.

His face really was perfectly her type—every feature hit her exact preference to a maddening degree.

If only he weren't so infuriatingly mischievous. If he could just be a little gentler, a little less teasing…

As for Ye Chen's occasional flirtatious side—she actually didn't mind.

If anything, it made her feel more… noticed, more confident in her own charm.

She couldn't deny that he seemed to like her in return… at least, she thought he did.

As for her own feelings toward Ye Chen—she couldn't be sure herself.

Was this really liking him?

It all seemed too fast. They'd only known each other for a short while, yet she found herself drawn to him. That wasn't like her usual calm, controlled self.

Wang Dong's thoughts floated aimlessly for a while before sleep finally claimed her.

...

...

The next morning, Ye Chen was up before dawn. He teleported straight into the city and returned soon after, carrying breakfast.

"Wake up. Breakfast's ready."

He knocked lightly on her bedpost and set a small paper bag on the table.

"Mmm… how are you up so early? You even bought breakfast?"

Wang Dong groaned groggily, blinking in confusion. She hadn't even heard him leave.

"No need to overthink it. Just eat."

Ye Chen handed her the paper-wrapped steamed buns, motioning for her to start.

As for washing up—soul masters didn't really need it.

Their refined bodies meant no breath odor or morning fatigue. Still, most maintained the habit from their childhoods, even if unnecessary. The neat ones still washed; the lazy ones didn't bother. It hardly mattered.

"Nom… mmh—it's delicious."

Wang Dong nibbled one like a small animal, savoring every bite.

Maybe it was just because Ye Chen had bought them himself, but somehow, they tasted especially good today.

"Oh, right—I got you something."

Ye Chen's eyes lit up suddenly as he retrieved a small pill from his storage ring. "Here. A little gift."

"What's this?" Wang Dong mumbled through a mouthful of bao, cheeks puffed up adorably as she accepted the tiny object.

"It's a Soul Enhancement Pill—a strengthened version of the original. It improves soul power faster and better than the regular kind, with no side effects and repeatable use."

Ye Chen briefly explained the pill's effects.

"Eh? Soul Enhancement Pill? How have I never heard of such a thing?"

She gasped in surprise and examined the pill closely, even holding it up to her nose to sniff.

Coming from the Clear Sky Sect, she was no stranger to rare pills and treasures. She'd seen—and taken—plenty of priceless medicines before. But something like this? Completely new.

"Don't worry. It's safe. My own rapid progress owes a lot to this pill," Ye Chen said, to reassure her. To prove it, he took out another and swallowed it directly.

His soul power surged instantly. From level 42 mid-stage, he advanced smoothly into late-stage 42.

Moments later, the spiritual pressure in the room rippled—a clear sign of breakthrough—and the faint shockwave made Wang Dong's hair flutter.

"Y-you... you broke through again?!"

She looked up in total disbelief.

They'd broken through together just days ago!

She was still hovering below level 26, yet Ye Chen had already climbed higher again.

And as a Soul Ancestor, no less! Wasn't it supposed to be exponentially harder to advance past level 40?

How was this guy making it look effortless?!

Maybe he'd been secretly cultivating like crazy while she was in class?

As for the pill itself—she still didn't quite believe one could have that much effect.

"You'll see when you try it. Come on, I'm not going to poison you." Ye Chen shrugged helplessly.

"Hmph! Fine—then I'll eat it!"

Wang Dong huffed, puffing up her cheeks before tossing the pill into her mouth.

"Nom!"

The pill melted instantly, dissolving into warm energy that rushed through her body.

Having been just a step away from level 26, she instantly broke through.

But that wasn't all—the power kept surging.

Feeling the energy growing dangerously strong, Wang Dong quickly crossed her legs and began circulating her soul power, focusing on directing the flow to prevent strain.

"Hmm… seems it's a bit too potent for lower-level soul masters," Ye Chen mused silently.

If given to novices, it could easily overwhelm them—literally bursting their meridians.

Thankfully, Wang Dong's constitution was sturdy. She only felt uncomfortable for a moment before adapting.

Ye Chen, by contrast, could absorb pill energy in a few breaths thanks to his superior physique.

Tang Ya and Jiang Nannan took about ten minutes each.

For Wang Dong, it would take half an hour at least.

"Crap, at this rate, she's going to be late to class," Ye Chen realized.

That hadn't been part of the plan.

Zhou Yi was strict—missing class once wouldn't get Wang Dong expelled, but she'd definitely get an earful.

Without another thought, Ye Chen climbed onto the bed and gently pulled her into his arms.

"W-what are you—"

Wang Dong trembled slightly, startled mid-cultivation.

"Hold still. Sync with my rhythm. I'll use my meridian resonance to help you refine the energy faster—so you won't be late." Ye Chen's voice was calm.

At that, Wang Dong blushed furiously but obeyed. The idea of being late terrified her more than his touch did.

Moments later, Ye Chen activated the resonance technique.

Their soul energies fused seamlessly, speeding up absorption tremendously.

Her body pulsed faintly with the flow—steady and powerful.

Level 27.

Peak level 27.

In only minutes, she absorbed the pill's energy completely.

One pill had carried her from the brink of 26 to nearly level 28—with absolutely no backlash.

"That's… that's incredible…" she breathed, wide-eyed, staring at him.

The hunger in her gaze could no longer be hidden—she wanted more.

"Even without side effects, too many at once will leave your soul energy unstable. Let your level settle first, then take another." Ye Chen said firmly.

Wang Dong was half his own person now, so he naturally didn't hide such things from her.

"Alright~"

She nodded, though her lips pouted slightly in disappointment.

The rush of fast advancement was addictive—she already wanted another taste.

"Don't get distracted. You're almost late. Let's see how Zhou Yi handles you if you walk in late," Ye Chen teased, rolling his eyes.

"Ah! Right—class!"

Wang Dong jumped up in panic. "Ugh, it's your fault!"

She scrambled to her feet. Then, mid-motion, something seemed to strike her. Suddenly blushing to her ears, she turned around sharply.

"Y-you… turn around! I need to change! And—you're not allowed to peek!"
