Chapter 6: Consuming Whale Glue, the Morning Embarrassment
Ma Xiaotao led Ye Chen into a small courtyard, entering the central house. Then she pointed to the side room and said, "Here, this'll be your room. You'll stay here from now on."
"Uh… Sister Xiaotao, this place… looks like your residence…"
Ye Chen looked around at the furnishings and noticed that the door next to this room was half open—it was clearly someone's private space.
Outside, several intimate pieces of laundry were hanging to dry… all in Ma Xiaotao's size and style.
It was unmistakably her home.
He hadn't expected that he'd be living with Ma Xiaotao.
"What's wrong, are you disliking your senior sister?"
Ma Xiaotao frowned and looked at him.
Ye Chen stared straight ahead—completely overwhelmed as "mountains" loomed before him. "N-No, Sister Xiaotao, I think this room is great!"
"That's better~" Ma Xiaotao narrowed her eyes, clearly pleased with his response.
"Go on in. I'm right next door. If you need anything, just call me," she said and pushed him inside.
Truthfully, she had wanted him to sleep beside her tonight, but she worried it would scare him, so she decided to take things slowly.
After all, Ye Chen's Ice Dragon martial soul fascinated her—it made her feel a kind of uncontrollable attraction.
And to top it off, he was adorable—perfect boyfriend material.
Perhaps… this was what love at first sight felt like.
She used to think such a thing didn't exist.
But now, faced with Ye Chen, she couldn't deny it.
He was her "love at first sight."
The only issue was their age gap. Still, soul masters lived far longer than normal people—years of youth stretched endlessly. A mere few years didn't matter.
She only had to worry about gossip.
After all, this could easily be seen as an older woman preying on the young. She'd have to mind her image.
At least until Ye Chen grew a little older before she… made her move.
…
Later that night, Ye Chen washed up and returned to his room.
It was clearly a guest room without its own bathroom, so he had to use the one outside.
He didn't mind, though—having such a comfortable place on his first day of school already beat those shabby dorms by a mile.
The night passed quietly.
…
Early the next morning, Ye Chen woke up.
He began his daily sign-in.
[Sign-in successful: Reward — "Ten-thousand-year Whale Glue *10,000 grams."]
In an instant, a lump of whale glue larger than a human head appeared in his system inventory.
"Huh? Whale glue? And it's ten-thousand-year grade—twenty jin of it?!" he said in astonishment.
Whale glue was precious for strengthening the body.
Although the Ice Dragon King martial soul had dramatically enhanced his cultivation and power, his physical body hadn't caught up yet. His bloodline was in the process of transformation—but too slowly due to a lack of nourishment.
Consuming whale glue would speed that up tremendously.
The only problem was its side effect—taking too much at once could ignite one's internal fire…
"Forget it, I'll just save it for later."
He scraped off a piece about the size of a rice grain and swallowed it.
Waves of warmth spread through his body, soothing and pleasant.
He pinched off another piece, slightly larger, and swallowed again.
The warmth returned, stronger and longer-lasting.
Then he glanced downward—
"Damn… seriously?!"
Ye Chen froze. Even with such a tiny dose, the reaction was that strong?
Maybe because it was fresh whale glue?
In his previous life, something like this would've been priceless for men with certain… issues!
Trying to keep his composure, Ye Chen quickly dressed, hunching forward as he quietly cracked open the door like a guilty thief—he needed the bathroom but didn't want Ma Xiaotao to see him like this.
"Xiao Chen, you're up! Come have breakfast~" Ma Xiaotao called out as she stepped from the kitchen, holding a tray.
She was wearing a thin silk nightdress under an apron. Her fiery-red hair tumbled freely over her shoulders, a few locks brushing against the hollow of her collarbone.
The nightdress clung tight to her curves, the morning light diffusing through the sheer fabric and tracing her waist and hips, her long, pale legs gleaming beneath the hem.
When she bent to place the tray on the table, her neckline dipped slightly, the pearly tone of her skin brighter than the milk in the bowl.
The sunlight caught her bare face, highlighting her natural glow.
Ye Chen had just eaten whale glue.
Faced with this sight, he instinctively bent over further, his cheeks burning scarlet.
"Xiao Chen, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Ma Xiaotao exclaimed, rushing to his side.
"I-I'm fine, Sister Xiaotao…"
He could barely speak—his head was pressed against something soft and heavy.
"You don't look fine! Are you hurt somewhere?" Ma Xiaotao said anxiously as she helped him upright—then looked down.
"Ah—Junior Brother, you—!"
Ma Xiaotao clapped her hands over her mouth, eyes wide in shock.
"Sister Xiaotao, I'll just… go to the bathroom first…"
Mortified, Ye Chen bolted into the washroom.
Moments later, the sound of cold running water could be heard. Clearly, Ye Chen was taking a very cold shower.
…
A short while later, he came out, freshly changed.
Ma Xiaotao sat at the dining table, eating her breakfast. Even so, her cheeks still burned pink, and her mind kept replaying that sight.
Even through his clothes, she could imagine…
"Sister Xiaotao, I—uh—sorry about earlier…" Ye Chen scratched his head awkwardly, not knowing how to explain.
"Xiao Chen, you don't need to explain. Healthy boys experience that. Big Sister understands," Ma Xiaotao said calmly now, glancing at him with amused understanding.
After all, she was eighteen—a mature "big sister." She knew things.
Seeing he wanted to say more, she cut him off, pretending to be serious. "Alright, hurry and eat your breakfast. You can't be late for your first class in the outer court today."
"Don't worry, Sister Xiaotao—I'll do great."
Ye Chen nodded earnestly and dug into his food.
He had to admit, Ma Xiaotao's cooking was delicious.
The milk was so white—no, sweet. The eggs perfectly round…
…
After breakfast, Ma Xiaotao personally escorted Ye Chen to the outer court.
Before he left, she reminded him repeatedly to behave himself—like a parent sending their child to school, warm and protective.
For Ye Chen, it was an unfamiliar kind of comfort. He decided he ought to do something nice for her in return.
Hmm… maybe give her some whale glue.
He had plenty—and couldn't possibly use it all himself anyway.
