Chapter 279: A Reunion with Han Feng (Part Two)
The blood red demonic beam surged toward Xiao Yan with terrifying power. Even the seemingly impenetrable wall of Heavenly Flames that had stymied the Gold and Silver Elders was pierced by this attack.
Although the beam weakened significantly after breaching the flame barrier, the residual energy still carried a sense of danger, making Xiao Yan feel a faint but persistent threat.
Without hesitation, Xiao Yan waved his hand repeatedly, summoning layer upon layer of fused Heavenly Flames. The barriers of flames formed one after another, blocking the red beam's advance.
Despite its tremendous power, the Soul Destroying Demonic Light gradually dissipated after piercing through nine flame barriers. As it vanished, Xiao Yan thought he heard a bitter and unwilling roar echo faintly in the air.
The lingering malice and dark resonance within the demonic beam were enough to shatter the will of weaker minds.
"A Frightening Technique"
Watching the beam finally vanish, Xiao Yan exhaled deeply, easing his tense shoulders.
"That Soul Destroying Demonic Light is truly terrifying."
While he had managed to neutralize the attack, it wasn't because the technique was weak. Quite the contrary it was devastatingly powerful. Had he lacked the protection of Heavenly Flames or his clan's secret techniques, Xiao Yan might have suffered severe injuries, if not outright death.
This attack didn't target the body; it aimed straight for the soul.
If not for Xiao Yan's soul power reaching the Spirit Realm and his prior refinement of the Fallen Heart Flame an ideal counter to soul based assaults he might not have survived. Even a Dou Zun expert would have been in grave danger against this technique.
The encounter left Xiao Yan pensive. If the Gold and Silver Elders could unleash such a terrifying attack, how much more dangerous could Han Feng, potentially possessed and strengthened by the same otherworldly force, have become?
"No matter how strong Han Feng is, he won't escape today."
Determination surged within Xiao Yan as his figure disappeared into the void, heading toward Spring God Ravine.
The Calm After the Storm
As the battlefield fell silent, the massive black void in the sky a remnant of the battle slowly began to close.
Within Spring Lake City, the stunned residents erupted into cheers. Moments ago, the city had teetered on the brink of destruction, but the crisis had been averted, and the people were overcome with relief.
Even the city lord, a Dou Huang level expert, cautiously emerged from his mansion. While the Gold and Silver Elders had previously paralyzed him with fear, their defeat restored his confidence, and he quickly regained his haughty demeanor.
Outside the city, the group of students stood in awe, gazing at the slowly healing rift in the sky.
"Is this the true power of Elder Yanxiao?"
Lin Xiuya muttered, swallowing hard.
Beside him, Liu Qing was drenched in cold sweat. A flicker of gratitude crossed his face he was thankful he hadn't escalated his prior conflicts with Xiao Yan. The consequences could have been catastrophic.
Meanwhile, Han Yue, already aware of Xiao Yan's true identity, watched him vanish into the distance. Her bright eyes glimmered with admiration, her thoughts swirling.
Compared to Xiao Yan's almost monstrous talent, his current strength was merely a glimpse of his true potential.
If Lin Xiuya and the others learned that their elder, Yanxiao, was only 17 years old a high level Dou Zong and a seventh tier alchemist they might have been even more shocked.
"Seventeen years old, a peak Dou Zong, and a seventh tier alchemist..."
Even in the genius filled Central Plains, such talent was unheard of.
A faint smile tugged at Han Yue's lips, a sense of joy quietly blooming in her heart. Though usually reserved and calm, she was, after all, still a young woman.
"A hero like him... any woman would be moved."
However, a flicker of doubt crossed her face.
"But I heard he already has a companion in the Pill Tower..."
Her brows furrowed slightly at the thought.
A Descent Into Spring God Ravine
As the people of Spring Lake City marveled at Xiao Yan's display of power, he had already traversed thousands of miles to reach the depths of Spring God Ravine.
"Han Feng, I hope you're here. Don't disappoint me."
Xiao Yan smirked as he descended into the abyss.
The ravine was dark and foreboding, with an unsettling atmosphere that deepened as he ventured further. At first, nothing seemed unusual. But as he descended several hundred feet, he encountered a wisp of dense black mist.
"As expected, the otherworldly demons are here."
Xiao Yan's expression hardened. He retrieved a jade talisman from his storage ring and held it firmly.
"If there's a Dou Sheng level demon hidden here, even with the help of the Two Elders, it'll be dangerous."
He glanced at the talisman, knowing it was his last resort a direct lifeline to the clan leader.
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that."
With the talisman in one hand, Xiao Yan summoned his Heavenly Flames with the other. The four distinct flames merged, emitting a sharp hiss as they neutralized the surrounding miasma.
Deeper and deeper he went. At a depth of a thousand feet, the black mist grew so dense it resembled ink, blocking all light. Even a Dou Huang expert would have been corrupted by prolonged exposure.
The suffocating darkness reminded Xiao Yan of the Yin Yang Evil Saint's tomb a place of unimaginable evil.
A Familiar Face
Suddenly, Xiao Yan's feet touched solid ground. His senses sharpened, and his soul power scanned the area.
Just then, a claw covered in scales tore through the mist, narrowly missing him. Xiao Yan sidestepped, summoning a burst of seven colored flames that pushed back the darkness.
From within the retreating mist, a face emerged one both familiar and grotesque.
"Han Feng! So it is you!"
Xiao Yan's voice carried a mix of mockery and resolve as he looked at his former senior.
The possessed Han Feng grinned wickedly, revealing jagged teeth.
"So, you're Xiao Yan... That pathetic coward of a senior brother was terrified of you."
The voice carried an eerie duality, human and demonic tones blending together.
"I didn't expect you to be a genius of the Xiao Clan. How delightful! Your clan was a thorn in my people's side during the great war. Killing you here will be a satisfying accomplishment."
A twisted grin spread across Han Feng's face.
"Even if such achievements mean little now, it will still bring me joy to slaughter you!"
With that, Han Feng lunged forward, his claws gleaming with malice.
A Deadly Counterattack
Xiao Yan's figure blurred as he retreated, creating distance. In his hand, a luminous, four colored lotus flower began to take shape.
"Let's see if you can survive this!"
