Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: I Wet the Bed

Chapter 90: I Wet the Bed

As soon as Tengshan's declaration echoed through the hall, it was as if a bomb had detonated, shaking everyone present.

Yafei's background wasn't a secret. Her father had once been the Mittel Clan's heir apparent. However, tragedy struck during a mission, leaving both her parents dead and Yafei, a mere teenager at the time, orphaned and adrift.

Her parents' vast wealth and influence became the target of greedy relatives, and Yafei herself, with her lackluster talent for Dou Qi cultivation, was seen as an easy mark. Only Tengshan's fairness as the Grand Elder had shielded her from losing everything outright.

Yet today, Tengshan openly declared his support for Yafei's ascension as the Mittel Clan's leader. The shift left the council members in turmoil.

"I object!" a middle aged elder shouted, standing up abruptly.

This elder, along with Lei Ou and others, had been at the forefront of ostracizing Yafei for years. If she were to rise as the leader, his comfortable days would be numbered.

"You object?" Tengshan's icy gaze landed on the man, sending a shiver down his spine.

"Grand Elder, I think "

Smack!

Before he could finish his sentence, Tengshan appeared before him in a blur of motion and delivered a resounding slap. The elder, a Dou Spirit, was sent flying like a cannonball, crashing through the hall's wall and leaving behind a massive hole.

"I said this concerns the Mittel Clan's prosperity or decline!" Tengshan's tone was frigid as his sharp eyes swept over the room.

"I'll ask again: who agrees, and who opposes?"

The room fell into a stunned silence. No one had expected Tengshan, a staunch enforcer of clan rules, to take such drastic action.

Finally, an elder who had a good relationship with Tengshan hesitantly asked, "Grand Elder, we support you, but surely you have a reason for this decision? Yafei is capable, but how could she alone determine the clan's fate?"

Tengshan nodded, deciding there was no point in hiding the truth.

"Yafei has recently formed ties with a young master from a major Central Plains clan. This individual's strength alone is sufficient to kill me effortlessly," Tengshan explained calmly.

A collective gasp filled the hall.

Unbothered by their shock, Tengshan continued, "The two guardians accompanying this young master have power levels capable of annihilating the entire Jia Ma Empire. I estimate that both are high level Dou Ancestors, at the very least."

His words hit the elders like a thunderbolt.

High level Dou Ancestors?

Many of them had never even seen a Dou Ancestor in their lives. In fact, the Jia Ma Empire didn't have a single Dou Ancestor to its name. Such power was simply unimaginable to them.

As he observed their expressions, Tengshan couldn't help but feel a touch of satisfaction. After all, he had reacted much the same way yesterday.

"Ironclad, Lei Ming, Vincent," Tengshan said, addressing three elders who had been particularly aggressive in ostracizing Yafei. "You will relinquish all your positions and withdraw from the clan's affairs. Retire to the countryside and live out your days quietly."

"Grand Elder, we " The three elders turned pale, their voices trembling.

"Lei Ou was reduced to ashes yesterday, and Lei Le has already been dealt with. Do you want to follow in their footsteps?" Tengshan's icy tone left no room for debate.

The three elders, who had once been so high and mighty, now stood pale and trembling, their legs threatening to give out beneath them.

"If you step down voluntarily now, you can at least keep your lives. If you wait too long, your families might suffer as well," Tengshan warned.

The elders slumped in despair, their faces ashen.

Turning his attention to the rest of the council, Tengshan continued, "Many of you have wronged Yafei in the past. Whether those grievances can be resolved is for you to decide. But let me remind you: don't let petty ambitions cost you your life."

With that, he strode out, leaving the room in silence.

Some elders sat with faces devoid of color, knowing their actions against Yafei would not be easily forgiven. Others wore anxious expressions, wondering how their minor offenses might be perceived.

Yet a select few bore looks of relief or even joy. These were the elders who had once shown Yafei small acts of kindness, whether out of old friendships with her parents or a simple sense of decency. Now, those small gestures seemed poised to pay off in ways they'd never imagined.

In the Mittel Clan Courtyard

Tengshan had arranged for Xiao Yan to stay in a luxurious estate once belonging to Yafei's parents.

The sprawling courtyard, complete with elegant pavilions, an artificial lake, and a small gazebo, radiated refinement and serenity.

As the setting sun cast its final golden rays over the lake, colorful koi fish swam gracefully near the surface, their shimmering scales reflecting the light.

"Who would've thought…" Yafei murmured, gazing at the koi.

She had spent the entire afternoon receiving visits from once condescending elders, all now scrambling to curry favor. The same individuals who had oppressed her for years had practically groveled before her, their arrogance shattered.

And it was all because of the young man standing beside her.

"Feeling better?" Xiao Yan asked, tossing a handful of fish food into the lake.

"Much better," Yafei admitted, her soft voice carrying a hint of gratitude. She leaned her head gently on his shoulder. "Thank you."

For years, she had struggled against the tides, appearing confident and capable to the outside world while bearing the weight of countless obstacles.

But now, thanks to Xiao Yan, she could finally breathe.

"If you're thankful, how about showing some sincerity?" Xiao Yan teased, tossing more food into the water before turning to her with a mischievous grin.

Yafei blushed, her enchanting eyes glimmering with both allure and shyness. "And how would Lord Xiao Yan like me to express my gratitude?"

"That depends on what you're offering," Xiao Yan replied, his tone playful yet suggestive.

Before Yafei could respond, Xiao Yan suddenly swept her up in his arms, eliciting a soft gasp.

"It's still early," Yafei murmured, hiding her flushed face against his chest.

"Oh, we can start with a candlelit dinner," Xiao Yan quipped with a laugh, carrying her inside.

After a sumptuous meal and a relaxing bath, Xiao Yan returned to his room, his eyes glinting with anticipation as he spotted Yafei clad in a silk robe.

Just as he was about to approach her, a knock at the door interrupted the moment.

"Who dares to knock at this hour?" Xiao Yan grumbled, irritation flashing across his face as he opened the door.

Standing there was a certain tiny figure.

"Why aren't you in bed? What do you want?" he snapped, his expression dark.

"I wet the bed," Hun Xin replied matter of factly.
