Chapter 270: The One Yuanen Yehui Chose Isn't a Scumbag!
"Hiss—so cold!"
Fresh from her bath, Yuanen Yehui stepped barefoot onto the wooden floor, a towel loosely draped over her snowy shoulders. She shivered suddenly, running a hand over her damp hair and murmured, "Someone must be thinking about me… could it be him?"
The thought of Jiang Chen sent a faint blush across her face.
She hadn't spent much time with him—but she knew one thing clearly: Jiang Chen was a good man.
He was the one who had helped her reunite with her mother.
These days had been the happiest of her life. For the first time since she could remember, her family felt whole again—her father and mother both back at her side.
Even though she had been "deceived" and was furious at first, the joy of reunion overshadowed everything else.
The gloomy, withdrawn girl she had been was slowly changing—brighter, lighter, no longer crushed under the shadows of her past.
Her parents were busy, yes, often called away by their work. But it didn't matter. To merely live together, alive and as a family—that alone was enough to fill her heart.
And now, she could finally wield her Fallen Angel martial soul openly and without fear.
Thanks to her mother's guidance, the strengthening of her bloodline, and the instruction of a true demon monarch, her power had risen steadily. Even more, she had officially registered with the Spirit Transmission Tower as a Heaven's Chosen Soul Master, inheriting a legitimate identity.
She was even now the personal disciple of the Blood Demon Douluo, the principal of Douluo University—an Ultimate Douluo.
Oh, right—her father and grandfather were both Ultimate Douluo too.
But that wasn't what mattered.
What mattered was that she could study again.
After being expelled from Shrek Academy and branded as an "Evil Soul Master," she had thought her life was over.
The prejudice of her clan no longer weighed on her. The only thing that mattered now was that her family stood by her.
As her mother, Yuanen Ye Hui's gentle hand ran through her daughter's damp hair, she picked up a soul-powered hair dryer and began to dry it, her voice soft but thoughtful.
"Tell me, daughter—what kind of Heaven's Companion would you like?"
To prevent Heaven's Chosen Soul Masters from falling into emotional instability and reverting to corruption, each was assigned a guardian companion—someone who served as both caretaker and confidant, responsible for reporting to the Spirit Transmission Tower.
Whether called surveillance or companionship, the purpose was simple: Heaven's Chosen Soul Masters must never be left alone.
Otherwise, if their emotions collapsed, they could easily descend into darkness again.
Normally, the tower selected these companions—and they were almost always of the opposite sex.
After all, who could stay closer—or longer—than a future spouse?
As deputy head of the Federal Secret Division, Yuanen Ye Hui had the privilege to personally choose a companion for her daughter.
The Division, though under federal command, was deeply tied to the Spirit Transmission Tower—its members all drawn from Heaven's Chosen training programs.
"As for the department head…" she added lightly, "that's your father now. Your grandfather, Yuanen Zhentian, agreed with the promotion."
"You can pick for yourself," she said with a smile. "Or your mother can pick for you."
"I recall that the Tower Master's grandson studies at Douluo University—Qian Gu Zhang Ting, wasn't it? Perhaps him?"
Yuanen Yehui shook her head firmly.
"No."
She knew Qian Gu Zhang Ting. A prodigy. Someone who could match Long Yue in battle—an exceptional young man, in strength and in status.
But she didn't like his type.
Polished, smiling, always rallying people to his side, building alliances for influence—that wasn't who she was.
And frankly… she didn't know him.
She was shy, withdrawn, a little socially anxious. Talking to strangers was nearly impossible.
Her mother nodded. "I can't just let you pick randomly either."
Yuanen Ye Hui sighed, knowing her daughter's temperament.
"Fine," she said softly. "Who do you want, then?"
Yuanen Yehui frowned, thinking hard.
Who did she even know?
Spirit Transmission Tower… Douluo University…
Only one name came to mind.
Jiang Chen.
They had met only twice—once at the Tianhai Tournament, once during the exchange program. But she remembered him clearly.
Adjusting the towel more securely around her chest, she hesitated, then mumbled, "Jiang Chen?"
"Mom, do you… know him? The boy who passed that package to you?"
"Know him?" Yuanen Ye Hui's mouth twitched subtly. "Of course I do—but he's not—"
She hesitated. After all, she knew exactly who he was. Jiang Chen was not an ordinary boy—he was the result of the Huo family's bloodline experiments, a hybrid born of human lineage and a hundred-thousand-year-old soul beast.
A being… very much like the Yuanen Clan itself.
Was that why her daughter felt drawn to him?
"Maybe," her mother sighed, "but you should know—he's surrounded by girls, and—"
Before she could finish, Yuanen Yehui interrupted, cheeks burning.
"Mom! This isn't marriage we're talking about!"
"Alright, alright, I understand."
Yuanen Ye Hui chuckled softly, ruffling her daughter's hair.
"I'll see if he's willing then."
This wasn't a decision she could make alone—she'd need to discuss it with her husband, Yuanen Tiandang, and her father, Yuanen Zhentian. And naturally, the Huo family too.
And, of course, Jiang Chen himself. If he refused, they wouldn't force it.
Still… it was unlikely the Huo family would oppose. Given the Yuanen Clan's importance to the Federation, such an alliance could only strengthen ties.
…
"What? You want to introduce me to a girlfriend!?"
In his dormitory, Jiang Chen nearly fell off the bed, staring in disbelief at the projection of Huo Tiangang on his communicator.
Huo Tiangang sighed. "Not a girlfriend—a Heaven's Companion."
"Same thing!" Jiang Chen grinned lazily. "Either way, it's spending all your time together."
Ye Xinglan, sitting on the couch nearby, froze mid-read. The word girlfriend hit her like a brick.
Wait—why was she nervous?
Ridiculous. She wasn't jealous, of course not. Still, she leaned slightly closer, ears pricked.
Huo Tiangang corrected patiently, "Not all Heaven's Chosen pairings end as couples."
"Is it a girl, though?" Jiang Chen asked innocently.
"Yes."
"Then I'm not a scumbag!" Jiang Chen declared bluntly.
Huo Tiangang: "…"
Later that day, the Yuanen Clan sent formal word to the Huo family—asking if Jiang Chen could serve as Yuanen Yehui's Heaven's Companion.
At first, the Huo family's reaction had been to reject the idea outright.
Ridiculous! He was their treasured ancestor! They hadn't even married him off properly within the clan—why let someone else take him?
But then someone raised a point.
As one of the few families famed for human–soul beast hybrids, wouldn't it be wise to learn from the Yuanen Clan's bloodline lineage?
Such research was highly confidential—something rarely shared beyond their lines. But with this connection… teaching could go both ways.
And so, the immediate rejection softened into consideration.
Moments later—
"Huo Family, assemble the council!"
