Chapter 271 - Chapter 271: Humanity’s First Lesson—Never Forget Your Origins!

Chapter 271: Humanity's First Lesson—Never Forget Your Origins!

First and foremost—the ancestor belongs to their own family. No matter who he ends up with, no one is allowed to force him.

Before the meeting began, Clan Chief Huo Tianluo had already laid down that rule. It was absolutely critical to keep everyone's thoughts pure and in line.

Some of the clansmen, of course, harbored… questionable ideas.

After all, this was the hundred‑million‑year soul beast ancestor. Even if he now lived in human form, the divine blood of a soul beast still ran through him!

He was but one tribulation away from true godhood!

So if their family's ancestor were to become someone else's… who wouldn't feel slighted?

Within the newly rebuilt Huo Family Estate—

The main clan house stood proudly in the newly expanded Douluo City. Following the example set by Huo descendants, they had relocated from Mingdu, joining the great reconstruction effort.

The Federation had preserved much of old Shrek City's layout, instead building anew around it: one central metropolis surrounded by three satellite cities.

Old Shrek City became one of those satellites—a home now shared by Shrek Academy's survivors and a handful of prominent clans.

No one wanted to drive out citizens who had lived there for generations. Instead, expansion gave space for newcomers to settle, and the city flourished once more.

Now, in the Huo Family's great meeting hall—

A clan council was in session.

It was their second such gathering since the move—this time attended only by the family's core: Titled Douluos, elders, and the most talented heirs.

Huo Tianluo, the clan chief, cleared his throat. "Regarding the request sent by the Yuanen Family—your opinions?"

He held up a letter sealed in crimson wax—sent personally by Yuanen Zhentian.

"Refuse! Of course, we refuse!"

"That's right! The ancestor is our ancestor! Why should we hand him over to someone else, and to the Yuanen clan no less? They already have divine beasts; what more do they want?"

"True—but the other families already acknowledge him as the hybrid descendant of our Huo bloodline and a soul beast."

"Exactly. That rumor was our own doing. After all, almost no one knows the ancestor once returned to a human path."

The consensus around the hall was clear—their ancestor might have detached himself from clan affairs, but he still belonged to them.

Even though only Huo Tiangang was permitted to maintain contact with him, the elders still kept track of their revered forefather's situation.

But what they knew left them speechless:

Three powerful women surrounded him constantly.

The Snow Empress—they had no idea how the ancestor ever convinced a seventy‑thousand‑year‑old soul beast to take human form ahead of her time.

The clan chalked it up to love… and decided not to dwell.

Then there was Gu Yue, the Spirit Transmission Tower's favored disciple of Leng Yaozhu.

And Na'er, direct student of Sea God Pavilion's Master Yun Ming.

Every time they thought of it, their heads ached.

How could one man be so good at "cultivating relationships"? Perhaps after so many millennia as a soul spirit, he'd developed pent‑up… energy.

Well, at least he didn't go mad living around men for a hundred thousand years.

They coughed and moved on.

As for Huo Yuner, the family had long stopped placing their hopes there. That little girl was almost invisible to him now.

Still, they refused to give up completely.

If all else failed, the clan's oldest elders had already agreed—they'd drop their dignity, kneel if they had to, and beg the ancestor to leave one child behind in the family.

Huo Yuner: "???"

Yes, that was the Huo clan's final contingency plan.

Pathetic, but realistic.

What else could they do?

They couldn't force the man! He was their ancestral pillar—and as the old saying went, a man must never forget his roots.

As for godhood—they had given up dreaming. The ancestor himself had said it plainly once: without a God Realm, divinity was impossible.

And since he had relinquished his beast identity, even his longevity had limits now.

The only hope left… was for him to leave descendants the clan could cherish.

"Then," Huo Tianluo asked tentatively, "are we refusing?"

All eyes turned to the family's oldest and strongest—Huo Yuanjing, their sole surviving Ultimate Douluo.

At last, the old man opened one eye.

"You're the clan chief. Do as you will."

At that moment, Huo Tiangang, the one closest to Jiang Chen, spoke up cautiously.

"Clan Chief… since the Yuanen Clan is also descended from both soul beasts and humans—and still retains several divine beast elders—we might… learn something valuable from them."

The hall fell silent. Some frowned, ready to object—but then paused.

That actually made sense.

"Wait, hold on—so you're all selling me out?"

When Jiang Chen finally learned of the situation, his face darkened completely.

The Snow Empress was already a headache, Gu Yue's intentions were a mystery, and now they wanted to toss another complication his way?

What was he, a daycare manager?

"I refuse!"

"Hey, wait—don't be so quick!" Huo Tiangang hurried to add, "The Yuanen Clan offered compensation—they're willing to gift you a small amount of Spirit Gold."

Jiang Chen froze.

"Spirit Gold?"

That changed things.

Spirit Gold—the rarest of metals, the essence of vitality itself. Even the Federation barely possessed any.

If the Yuanen Clan truly had some, then perhaps from Da Ming or Er Ming—the legendary beasts themselves. That would explain how their clan had flourished for generations.

Jiang Chen rubbed his chin. With Huo Yuner already attached to him, what harm was one more?

He changed his expression instantly. "Fine, I accept."

Yuanen Yehui—that quiet girl—at least seemed well‑mannered. Probably easier to deal with than Huo Yuner.

"Excellent!" Huo Tiangang grinned. "I'll inform the Yuanen Clan immediately."

After ending the call, Jiang Chen turned—only to find Ye Xinglan staring at him, her expression unreadable.

"What?" he asked. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You… and Yuanen Yehui? You're really going to be with her?"

She bit her lip. Though she'd never joined the official Shrek Seven, she'd once trained alongside Yehui and knew her well.

She couldn't believe that this idiot—this chronic flirt—was now entangling himself with her too.

Of course, she didn't know about the Douluo University rumors—that false story of Jiang Chen "threatening" Yuanen Yehui.

If she had, she wouldn't look nearly this calm.

"Oh, relax," he said lightly. "I'm just supposed to keep her company, not fall in love."
