Chapter 266: The Descendant of the Strongest Soul King—The Deathbringer!
"Die—all of you!"
The Deathbringer's shrill roar split the air. Tang Wulin's heart sank. A dreadful premonition clawed at his chest.
The eleven crippled Evil Soul Masters lying across the blood-soaked shore suddenly stirred at his command, their eyes flaring with crimson madness as they hurled themselves toward the densest cluster of rescuers.
"Watch out!"
Tang Wulin's shout barely left his mouth before it happened—each of the dying Evil Soul Masters swelled grotesquely, their skin reddening, twisting, and cracking like splitting porcelain.
Zhuo Shi's pupils shrank to pinpoints.
"This scene… not good!"
"Everyone, retreat!"
But it was too late.
BOOM! BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
Time itself seemed to stretch and collapse into a single heartbeat.
Before Tang Wulin's warning had even faded from the air, his vision was consumed by a blinding sea of blood-red light.
The shattered bodies of the eleven Evil Soul Masters convulsed violently, injected with a torrent of rampaging energy. Their flesh tore open, spraying crimson mist—and then—
They bloomed.
Like grotesque flowers blossoming from the pits of hell.
The world vanished in deafening thunder. The newly arrived Shrek Academy rescue team was swallowed whole by the explosion.
Flesh and viscera burst outward, raining down over the shoreline in a storm of gore and darkness.
It wasn't one blast but eleven overlapping explosions, merging into a single cataclysmic roar that split heaven and earth.
It wasn't an ordinary detonation.
It was the Corpse Explosion—a forbidden technique steeped in resentment and death.
Zhuo Shi's memory surged back violently—he had seen this before.
Decades ago, when the Supreme Elder of the Holy Spirit Cult walked the world, that man too had brought "Corpse Explosion" upon an army.
That man had been known as the Deathbringer, hailed as the most powerful Soul King in recorded history.
Now, that same nightmare was reborn—in front of his eyes.
The self-detonating Evil Soul Masters had thrown themselves straight at the newly arrived Shrek rescuers—the very future of the academy.
This... this was genocide.
The shockwave that followed wasn't merely physical—it carried poison, bone fragments, shredded organs, and waves of malice that screamed curses of the dying.
The air itself howled as it tore apart, carrying scouring sand, flaming embers, and deadly debris across the beach.
Zhuo Shi's cry of "Run!" was drowned by the blast's thunder.
At the edge of the explosion, his pupils contracted sharply. In the instant before impact, the Super Douluo crossed his arms, soul rings blazing. Fiery red scales burst across his body as he manifested his Dragon Shield once again.
BOOM—!
The explosion struck head-on. The shockwave slammed into the shield like a meteor.
Zhuo Shi grunted, his throat filling with heat. A corrosive, venomous energy ripped through his defense, stabbing into his organs. His half-restored vitality churned violently—he coughed fire and blood, his vision blurring.
Worse still, a rolling mist of blood-red energy latched onto him, sizzling as it corroded his soul power barrier. Its venomous chill pierced deep into his nerves, leaving searing pain and maddening dizziness behind.
Still, Zhuo Shi didn't move an inch.
His face paled further, blood trailing down his lips, but he stood firm—glaring into the inferno, eyes blazing with fury.
The Corpse Explosion… strengthened?
In ancient records, the original had been wielded by a Soul King. But now—a Title Douluo was using it!
Even Zhuo Shi, a peak Super Douluo, had barely endured the blast.
Tang Wulin reacted by pure instinct. While shouting his warning, he unleashed every vine of Golden Blue Silver Grass, weaving them into a dense golden barrier in front of him.
The radiance of the Golden Dragon King surged, burning away part of the malevolent haze—but the pressure was overwhelming.
Thump!
The shockwave hit. His barrier groaned, buckling inwards before snapping apart like brittle glass. Countless strands of blue-gold grass shattered under the assault.
The impact hurled Tang Wulin through the air like a ragdoll. He crashed against the sand, pain shattering through every bone. Blood spewed from his lips as the icy curse energy seeped into his veins.
Even the power of the Golden Dragon King couldn't block it entirely. His limbs stiffened and turned cold as lead, but still, he lifted his head, horror widening his eyes.
So this… this was the true cruelty of an Evil Soul Master.
Long Yue, meanwhile, was thrown violently off his feet. Already injured and further from Zhuo Shi and Wulin, he couldn't brace against the impact in time. Rocks and sand slammed into him as his soul-light flickered and dimmed.
He swallowed down the blood choking his throat—but his organs reeled from the force.
And those who suffered the worst—the ones who had come to help—were the Shrek inner-court elites who had just arrived.
They never even had a chance.
These were Shrek's chosen geniuses—the ones destined to inherit the academy's legacy. They had barely finished summoning their martial souls when the wave hit.
They fell to ruin in an instant.
Frontline assault-type soul masters died first—their battle armors shattered like paper, defenses collapsing before the corruption of the blast.
There was no time to scream, no time to resist.
One by one, they disintegrated in scarlet mist—bodies torn apart mid-step, blood and fragments raining across the sand.
The agile-types behind them tried to dodge, but the explosion's reach was absolute. Their silhouettes were flung like broken kites, flesh dissolving midair before blackened remains hit the ground.
Fragments of their emerald Shrek uniforms fluttered in the wind—haunting echoes of what once was.
The support and control specialists at the rear faced an even crueler fate.
Fragile bodies, no defense at all. Lives meant to shine bright—snuffed out in seconds.
One young woman managed to throw up a thin barrier of light, but a piece of flaming bone pierced straight through her chest, carrying a taint of curse and rot. She looked down at the growing hole in her chest, life fading from her eyes, and collapsed silently.
Another, a control-type genius, barely began his defensive spell before the shockwave obliterated the field, crushing him and those around him to pieces.
Zhuo Shi fell to his knees in the scorched sand, blood dripping down his chin.
His voice cracked into a roar of despair.
"No—!!!"
