Chapter 62: Of All People to Provoke, You Chose a Bunch of Kids?!

When Tang Wulin got home, the first thing he saw was Mu Xi, standing protectively in front of his parents.

A blazing crimson bird faced off against a figure cloaked in darkness—the unmistakable aura of an Evil Soul Master filled the air.

Something was clearly wrong.

Was this really happening? The evil soul masters—those villains from ancient history—here, in his house? Were they targeting his parents?

Tang Wulin forced himself to stay calm and not rush forward recklessly.

"Damn it!"

The Evil Soul Master cursed under his breath. Thankfully, the giant flaming bird before him wasn't a real soul beast but a spirit soul. A soul spirit was weaker than a living beast of the same age, but still—it was nearly thirty thousand years old. Way out of his league.

A mere four-ring Soul Sect versus that? He could barely hold his ground, relying entirely on his sinister techniques to stall for time.

"Damn it, where's my partner?" he hissed.

Then his eyes narrowed when he noticed Tang Wulin standing nearby.

"Huh? Another human brat?"

So the holy cult wanted to abduct these two ordinary parents? That plan was failing fast. He needed a bargaining chip to escape—and now one had appeared.

His fourth ring flared blood-red.

A dense mist of crimson vapor engulfed his body.

In an instant, his form melted into the fog and shot straight toward Tang Wulin.

"Not good!"

The Tang God King's divine consciousness flared within Wulin's mind. He immediately sensed the danger.

An Evil Soul Master—perfect timing, actually.

What a gift from fate!

This one had just delivered himself to Tang San's doorstep, solving a current problem and giving him the perfect chance to earn his son's trust.

Ah well, if a father had to go this far to impress his own child… so be it.

He would endure. True victory required long-term thinking. Every step of the God Realm's grand orchestration had to be precise.

(Tang God King's Millennium Strategy: Step One — Send daughter to the mortal realm to ensnare the fated child of Douluo's destiny, steal a wisp of Golden Dragon bloodline, evolve her martial soul into Bright Dragon Butterfly, and through clever manipulation gain the loyalty of two first-class gods—Rong Nianbing, wielding an ultra artifact, being the greatest bonus. Step Two — Expose the Abyssal Holy Monarch's thousand-year plot, turning it into an opportunity for Douluo to devour the Abyssal Plane, forming a half-divine world. Step Three — [text omitted due to cosmic confidentiality]...)

…And then Tang San froze mid-thought.

What he saw next made his expression stiffen.

Before the Evil Soul Master could reach Tang Wulin, a thousand-year soul beast blocked his path.

Behind it stood a little kid holding a Spirit Sphere, cheeks flushed red with excitement.

He looked even younger than Tang Wulin, dressed in fine clothes—definitely not an ordinary family's child.

The boy turned proudly to Mu Xi. "Sister Mu Xi, am I awesome or what?"

"I'm the savior! I'll represent justice and destroy you—go, Blazing Wind Wings! Attack this bad guy!"

Before the words even finished echoing, more childish voices rose from the surrounding buildings.

"Hmph! Colduno, I'm the savior!"

"No! I'm the great hero!"

See, this neighborhood was right next to the Spirit Pagoda.

You could already imagine what that meant.

In the blink of an eye, red-and-white Spirit Spheres came flying out of every window and courtyard.

Tang Wulin and even Tang San stood completely dumbfounded as hundreds of spirit souls—hundred-year, thousand-year, even a couple of ten-thousand-year ones—appeared and encircled the Evil Soul Master.

His face turned green.

Crap.

How unfair could this be?

Tang San silently questioned reality.

Seriously? Was this what the world had become in ten thousand years?

Dozens of powerful spirit souls surrounded the panicking Evil Soul Master, kicking and slapping him around like a rag doll. Between three ten-thousand-year spirits alone, the four-ring Soul Sect couldn't even twitch in defense.

Mu Xi folded her arms coldly. "Give up and surrender."

Of course, despite her words, she didn't order her ancestral spirit soul—the Sun Bird—to stop.

If humans hated evil soul masters, spirit beasts despised them even more.

Within minutes, a Federation mecha squad arrived, sirens blaring. They worked hard to calm the chaos and persuade the horde of overzealous children to recall their ancestral spirits.

No, the evil soul master couldn't just die here, even if he deserved it.

He could still be useful—perhaps bait to catch bigger prey in the Holy Spirit Cult network.

Still, watching the half-dead man twitch on the ground, one soldier couldn't help sympathizing.

Of all the stupid things to do, you chose to attack a neighborhood full of kids… kids with spirit souls.

Every household had their own spirits now, after all. And the moment word spread of an evil soul master nearby, the local "hero kids" rushed out yelling about saving the world—each one bringing their inherited spirit ancestors along for battle.

That kind of collective enthusiasm could rival a genuine beast tide.

And what could a lone evil soul master possibly do against that?

Worse still? Some families even had mechas.

Their spirit souls could pilot them.

Brother… the world has changed.

Completely.

Tang Wulin stood frozen, watching as the battered and bruised evil soul master was dragged away. A flock of neighborhood kids had gathered around Mu Xi, chattering excitedly.

In Eastsea City's Spirit Pagoda, Mu Xi, undefeated three-star Spirit Transmitter, was a local celebrity—especially among children.

"Sister Mu Xi, battle me in a spirit soul duel! My Blazing Wind Wings will defeat yours this time!"

Mu Xi laughed warmly. "Little Luo Luo, maybe next time. If you pit your thousand-year spirit against my ten-thousand-year Sun Bird, your ancestral spirit might refuse to fight and just spank you instead."

The boy froze, clutching his Spirit Sphere protectively.

That spirit had been his great-great-grandfather's companion—now his Inherited Spirit. It would spank him.

"Ancestor, I was just kidding! Please don't tell my dad!"

Mu Xi smiled, retrieving her own sphere. "Thank you for your help. Come back, Sun Bird."

Tang San noticed Tang Wulin's eyes shining as he watched the spirit soul vanish into the orb, envy plain in his expression—

and his heart sank.

It's just a spirit soul, he thought bitterly. I might not make one myself, but doesn't my son-in-law own a whole tower of them?

The chance to impress his son, to make Tang Wulin worship and trust him completely—

gone, utterly wasted.

All involved… would pay.

And that girl clearly had her eyes on his son!

But the moment she joined the Spirit Pagoda, she lost the right to be a daughter-in-law of the Tang family.

Besides, joining Shrek or the Tang Sect didn't prevent obtaining spirit souls!

Hadn't he once taken coin from Spirit Hall while secretly plotting its downfall?

He was still stewing over this when—

"Old Tang," Tang Wulin said suddenly, "I've made my decision. I want to join the Spirit Pagoda."

Tang San: …?
