Chapter 61: Ancestor, He's the One Who Bullied Me!
Actually, the Spirit Pagoda wasn't bad at all.
But for some reason, Old Tang was absolutely against it. He insisted that Tang Wulin must join Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect.
Still, out of trust in Old Tang, Tang Wulin could only follow his advice.
No matter which faction he joined, strength would always be the most important thing.
Now that everything was decided, it was time to train again.
Tang God King: "Wulin, remember, I would never harm you!"
"Roar!"
On the other side of Eastsea City—
Ever since Tang Wulin became the disciple of the Seven-Star Saint Craftsman, his family had moved there.
"It's all our fault… we couldn't give our child a better life."
Tang Ziran looked deeply remorseful. Once, he had been a Federation mecha designer and pharmaceutical researcher. Though only human, he'd earned a good living over the years.
They should've been comfortably middle-class. Yet not only could they not afford a spirit soul for their son—he even had to help support the family through forging.
For a father, this was a humiliation.
Luo Yu smiled, trying to ease his guilt.
"Oh, forget it. Our son is so outstanding—there's no need to dwell on it. Life will get better and better! He'll be home for the holidays soon, and I bet he's missed us a lot!"
"Our child is growing up," Tang Ziran replied softly. "We shouldn't hold him back."
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"Wulin? You're back already?"
Luo Yu hurried to the door excitedly but, out of habit, glanced through the peephole first—and froze.
A man in a black cloak stood at their doorstep.
Her expression immediately darkened.
"Not good. They've found us!"
Tang Ziran turned pale. He grabbed Luo Yu's hand, pulling her toward the window. "We need to run!"
But Luo Yu stopped him. "If we run… what about Wulin?"
Both fell silent.
For years, the Federation had never stopped searching for them. They had been living under false identities, and Tang Ziran hadn't dared to use his old accounts—that's why they'd been barely scraping by.
He never expected the Federation to catch up so soon.
Outside, the cloaked man waited. When there was no response, he lifted his hand and used a soul skill.
The door shattered instantly.
"You—You're not with the Federation… you're an evil soul master!" Tang Ziran shouted.
The man sneered. "If you don't want to die, come with me."
"In broad daylight, you dare break into a private home? Evil soul master or not, this is enough reason for the city patrol to kill you!"
A clear, commanding voice rang out behind him.
A young girl with golden hair tied in a high ponytail stood at the doorway—it was Mu Xi.
She'd hurried over from school.
Earlier that day, Tang Wulin had driven her mad. He was too stubborn—he refused to join the Spirit Pagoda and insisted on going to Shrek!
She had to inherit her family's Inherited Spirit legacy, which meant she could never join Shrek. Did that mean they'd be separated in the future?
And Shrek even held that ridiculous "Sea God Fate Love Festival" to pair its inner court disciples internally—so talented men wouldn't leave the academy.
With Wulin's appearance and potential, wouldn't a whole crowd of women swarm around him?
Unacceptable.
So, she was furious!
Instead of waiting for him after class, she went straight to his home, ready to complain to his parents—
to expose Shrek's flaws and proclaim that the Spirit Pagoda was superior.
Having helped them find this house, Mu Xi was already familiar with the address. Eastsea City's property prices were sky-high—it wasn't easy to secure a decent place. She'd nearly bought them a flat outright, but worried that might scare his parents.
Who would've thought she'd walk in on an evil soul master breaking in?
"Seriously? In this era, and you rats still dress in black cloaks? Trying so hard to look suspicious? Are you afraid people won't know you're evil soul masters?"
Mu Xi crossed her arms, scolding him with such disdain that even the dark-robed man froze. Old-fashioned idiots—worse than Shrek's self-righteous snobs.
"Tsk," she muttered under her breath.
Tang Ziran and Luo Yu gasped when they saw her. "Mu Xi! Run!"
That startled the soul master. He turned, seeing only a youthful girl—and burst out laughing.
"Keheheh~ Little girl, you know I'm an evil soul master and you're not running? You must have quite the guts."
Mu Xi only smirked, completely unfazed.
"Relax, Uncle. You're just a pitiful low-tier evil soul master. You don't even have a spirit soul, do you? Let me guess—you got addicted to the thrill of fast cultivation through devouring humans, couldn't stop yourself, and now you're a discarded failure hiding under a cloak. Pathetic. You're a disgrace to all true soul masters."
"You—!"
That struck a nerve.
After awakening his martial soul, the man had discovered it could absorb power by devouring flesh—especially flesh infused with soul power. He couldn't resist the temptation, took a life, and lost everything in the process.
Addicted to the surge of strength, he went too far.
Soon, he could no longer seek spirit souls from the Spirit Pagoda, condemned to wander and eventually joined the Holy Spirit Cult.
But even there, life was miserable.
The cult leaders oppressed their subordinates, and members were forced to sail the seas, hunting oceanic soul beasts to forge soul rings.
Land-based beasts? Impossible. Every significant soul beast on land today was under the protection of major families— descendants of Inherited Spirits.
Killing one would be suicide; it meant declaring war on the family and all their ancestors.
If an evil soul master even drifted near a terrestrial beast, the authorities would capture him on sight or kill him instantly.
He knew that now—but it was too late.
After the Tang God King had annihilated Slaughter City and wiped out much of the evil soul masters' kind, the survivors had scattered.
Now, they survived only by butchering sea beasts—soul beasts that once worshiped Tang San himself.
How ironic.
"Little girl," he snarled finally, "you've successfully angered me! I'll drag you into the cult myself and make you beg for death!"
Mu Xi didn't hesitate. She threw out a red-and-white Spirit Sphere.
A blazing figure emerged—a radiant divine bird soaring high, wings spread wide, wreathed in golden flame.
It blocked the evil soul master's advance in an instant.
The man's eyes widened in shock.
No way.
This was—!
A combat power rivaling a Soul Emperor, commanded by a mere four-ring Soul Sect?!
That spirit—
a Twenty-Eight-Thousand-Year Sun Bird!
The divine creature's eyes glowed cold and merciless as it glared down.
"Ancestor," Mu Xi said sweetly but firmly, "he's the one who tried to bully me!"
