Chapter 55: The Green Cross Pirates
Thud! Thud! Heavy thumps rang out as the head chef directed a group of pirates to load supplies onto the ship.
Chunks of cured meat were being delivered from the town, and soon the entire stretch from the docks to the ship was filled with the savory aroma of marinated meat.
Luo Han leaned on the ship's railing, watching the scene with amusement. It felt far more vivid than the anime back in his past life.
Hmm!
At that moment, Luo Han sensed an unfamiliar pirate ship about forty kilometers away, heading straight for White Island.
That must be the pirate crew looking to cause trouble!
He turned around and walked up to Whitebeard. "Brother Newgate! That pirate crew is on their way. Let me take care of them this time!"
Waving his hand while seated on the deck, Whitebeard said, "As you wish."
Luo Han then turned to look at Golden Lion, who was perched at the bow. His eyes gleamed with the desire to punish someone.
"Haha! Since you're interested, Luo Han, I'll leave it to you," Golden Lion said, already understanding Luo Han's intent. Besides, he was no longer angry. They were just some clueless rookies new to the New World—not worth his time.
"Good! I'll make sure they feel the true welcome of the New World," Luo Han said, raising a clenched fist, his eyes tinged with menace.
"Haha! Luo Han, those guys have quite a few members. Be careful!" Sister Shao chuckled, hands resting on the railing, her gaze fixed toward the sea.
They might have numbers, but that doesn't matter to little Luo Han, she thought to herself.
"Lots of people? Numbers mean nothing to me… It's just—wait?" Luo Han suddenly paused. It dawned on him—Whitebeard and the others had also sensed the approaching ship. That meant their Observation Haki could reach that far too.
Which meant… last night's sparring with Cole …
Could it be?! But looking at Whitebeard and Golden Lion's relaxed expressions, it didn't seem like they noticed anything special about his body.
Wait a second—Luo Han suddenly recalled the probing smile Sister Shao had given him earlier.
It must've been her! He glanced at her awkwardly.
"Haha! Surprised, aren't you, Luo Han?" Whitebeard laughed, unaware of the details. "Shao has the strongest Observation Haki among us."
Sigh! What could he say? Luo Han forced a smile at Whitebeard, realizing he had underestimated others—or rather, underestimated women, especially those who enjoyed teasing men.
"Don't worry. I still need the two of you to look after me," Sister Shao whispered in Luo Han's ear.
Feeling her warm breath, laced with a hint of feminine scent, Luo Han's face flushed. Old fox! Stop bullying my pure heart, he thought, but said nothing. He flew up to the mast and looked out over the distant sea.
Soon, a pirate ship came into view for everyone on board.
Meanwhile, on the approaching ship, its captain George Tuck stood brimming with excitement as he stared at the island and the ship flying the Rocks Pirates' flag.
I'm about to become famous in the New World! he thought proudly. Granny was right—this is where I'll make my name!
"Captain! Bad news! That ship has Whitebeard… and Golden Lion on board!!" one of the pirates shouted from the bow, lowering his telescope with cold sweat dripping down his face.
Tuck walked up in a few steps, grabbed the telescope, and looked himself.
There he saw Whitebeard casually sipping sake on the deck. Golden Lion sat on the bow's railing with his back to them, exuding total indifference.
He also noticed a sexy womAnne and a young man on the mast watching them. The man looked a bit ugly, while the woman smiled and gestured sweetly toward him.
"Haha!" Tuck burst into laughter, grabbing a nearby pirate by the head and locking him in a headlock with his long, triple-jointed arm.
Facing Luo Han's ship, he shouted, "Hey! Don't be so dramatic! Can't you see? They're already swooning over my charm—totally powerless to resist!"
"Really?" the observer pirate popped his big head back out, still uncertain.
But the rest of the crew didn't question it. They began celebrating yet another presumed victory. After all, they'd had a smooth ride so far—everyone they'd encountered had fallen to Captain Tuck's Devil Fruit power.
Just thinking about that terrifying silhouette made them all shudder.
Even though they were used to his strength, the memory of his brutal fighting style still frightened them.
That's why their faith in Captain Tuck was unwavering. Some had even lain down already, ready to party post-victory.
It looked like they planned to let the captain do the fighting while they sat back and cheered. Seriously? Is this pirate crew for real?
Luo Han observed it all with his spiritual sense and shook his head. Ridiculous.
Still, a Devil Fruit user, huh? Another idiot who thought gaining a flashy power meant he could rule the New World.
Thud! Just then, Cole returned from the sky, landing back on the ship. He looked toward the approaching pirate vessel, whose black sail bore a white skull with two green crossed daggers driven through it.
"So that's the crew coming to cause trouble, Brother Han?" Cole asked.
Whoosh! Luo Han descended from the mast, leaned against the railing, and shrugged toward Cole . "Yeah, those clowns. A green cross stuck in their heads—brilliant design choice."
Hearing the commotion, the head chef and other pirates came over to the side and saw the approaching ship.
So that's the rookie crew coming to mess with the Rocks Pirates, the head chef thought to himself.
Suddenly, one pirate's eyes went wide, his pupils dilated. He gripped the railing tightly, pointing at someone on the enemy ship with a shocked expression.
"That's…!"
"What is it, Jack?" the others turned to him, startled by his dramatic reaction.
"Someone really powerful…" Jack stammered.
"A powerful what?" the others leaned in.
"What was it again?!" Jack tried hard to remember, sweating bullets.
"Well?! What is it?" The others were getting angry now.
"It's me! Captain George Tuck! Bounty: 108,000,000 Berries!!" Tuck's voice suddenly rang out from the distance, clearly amplified and full of gritted-teeth rage.
Still, it succeeded in grabbing the attention of everyone aboard.
Jack, now shoved to the side, let out a sigh of relief, wiping his sweat and even giving Tuck a look of gratitude.
Whoosh! Just then, Luo Han flew out toward the enemy ship. Jack suddenly felt redeemed. With a serious face, he pushed through the crowd back to the railing.
Jack opened his mouth wide, gathering all his strength to shout—
Smack! The head chef slapped Jack on the back of the head and cursed, "Scram! Don't get in the way!"
Ignoring Jack, who now lay dazed on the deck, the chef turned back around—then froze in surprise.
"What're you all looking at?! Watch Lord Luo Han!" he bellowed.
"Ah!" Everyone instinctively straightened their necks.
"Yes sir!" they responded in unison, pulling their twitching gazes back from the deck and locking onto Luo Han.
