Freya's POV
The weight of doubt has been crushing me for days now, ever since that phone call from Faith. Her words keep echoing in my mind, challenging everything I thought I knew about Gerry and our relationship.
"Baby, you know I want to be with you as much as you want to be with me," Gerry murmurs as he pulls me into an empty room within the packhouse walls. His voice carries that familiar warmth that used to make my heart race, but now it only makes my stomach twist with uncertainty.
I had cornered him again about ending his arrangement with Alpha Lara, and like clockwork, he had guided me away from prying ears and questioning eyes.
"What if she discovers her fated mate at the Academy, Gerry? Maybe she will and this whole situation will resolve itself," I press, remembering Faith's claim that Lara had indeed found her mate and that he was the one who had struck Gerry.
