Chapter 73 - Rule No. 74: Don’t Say It Unless You Mean It

The air felt different after that.

Not heavy.

Not tense.

Intentional.

Aira noticed it in the way Reyhan didn't rush to fill the silence anymore.

He didn't backtrack.

Didn't soften what he'd said.

He'd meant it.

That scared her more than hesitation ever had.

They walked toward the gate together, slower than usual.

"I don't want this to turn into something we regret," Aira said quietly.

Reyhan nodded.

"That's why I didn't say it sooner."

She looked at him.

"You were waiting?"

"For the moment where fear wasn't louder than honesty," he replied.

That mattered.

"I don't want words that feel good now and hurt later," Aira said.

"I want words that stay true even when things get hard."

Reyhan stopped walking.

Turned to her fully.

"Then don't let me say anything I can't stand by," he said.

"And don't say anything just because the moment feels right."

Aira swallowed.

This wasn't romantic tension.

This was respect.

They stood there, close but not touching.

"I'm not here for a temporary feeling," Reyhan said calmly.

"I'm here because I know what choosing you would mean."

Aira's chest tightened.

"And I'm not here to be someone's almost," she replied.

"I'm here because I want something real—or nothing at all."

Reyhan smiled faintly.

"That's why I trust you."

They reached the gate.

Normally, this was where things paused.

Today, Reyhan hesitated.

Then said quietly—

"I won't say it until I can carry it."

Aira nodded.

"And I won't accept it until I believe you can," she replied.

They parted without touch.

But the space between them felt solid—

not fragile.

Because when words were meant to last,

they didn't need to be rushed.

RULE #74: Don't say it unless you mean it.

Because promises don't live in moments—

they live in what you're willing to hold after.
