Chapter 67 - Rule No. 68: Don’t Ignore Small Steps Forward

Progress didn't announce itself.

It didn't arrive with grand gestures or emotional speeches.

It showed up quietly—in effort that didn't ask to be noticed.

Aira realized it on a Wednesday afternoon when Reyhan waited outside her classroom again.

Not like before.

Not every day.

Just that day.

"You didn't have to," she said as she stepped out.

"I know," he replied.

"I wanted to."

They walked together without rushing.

No heavy conversation.

No rehashing old wounds.

Just presence.

That felt new.

Reyhan didn't try to overcompensate.

Didn't ask if she was okay every five minutes.

He trusted the calm instead of interrogating it.

Aira noticed that too.

"I think we're doing better," she said quietly.

Reyhan smiled faintly.

"I was afraid to say it first."

She laughed softly.

"Same."

They sat on the steps, watching the sky shift colors.

"I used to ignore moments like this," Aira admitted.

"Because they didn't feel dramatic enough to matter."

Reyhan nodded.

"I used to think if something wasn't loud, it wasn't real."

They shared a look.

Different people than they were weeks ago.

"Small steps count," Aira said.

"They do," Reyhan agreed.

"Especially when they're consistent."

Later that night, Aira opened her notebook.

She didn't add a new rule.

She underlined an old one.

And for the first time, it felt like progress instead of protection.

RULE #68: Don't ignore small steps forward.

Because healing rarely leaps—

it walks, one quiet step at a time.
