"When will you get back?" I asked, voice quieter than I intended.
"Probably late at night again," he said.
We were in his car right now, parked in front of my apartment building in Novaterra's capital district. The engine idled low and steady, warm air blowing softly from the vents, but it couldn't quite reach the cold knot forming in my chest. Outside, the street looked the same as always—familiar cracked pavement, the same flickering streetlamp that never quite stayed on, the distant hum of evening traffic weaving through the city.
I was suppose to be happy that I was finally home right? But I felt sad. Not like I didn't want to come home but I wanted to spend more time with him.
It felt so weird that we would go from being glued to each other every day to not being sure we would see each other anymore. I guess we were back to reality then. The bubble had burst. He was Alpha King. I was just… me. A tutor who was trying to get a university degree.
I sighed.
