Silas took in a deep breath.
The air felt heavier than it had a moment ago, thick with smoke and something sharper beneath it—danger, maybe. His chest rose and fell as he tried to steady himself, but the pounding of his heart refused to slow. Every instinct he had was screaming at him that something was wrong. Very wrong.
What was Kasteil doing here?
Why was Kasteil here?
His mind raced, grasping for answers, excuses, anything that could make sense of this situation. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. He was meant to be escorted out of the pack, dumped beyond the borders, stripped of status but alive. This—this was something else entirely.
"I know why you're here but I am a victim of that slut too" Silas said. Maybe if he talked, Kasteil would understand.
The words spilled out quickly, desperation lacing his voice before he could stop himself. He needed Kasteil to listen. Needed him to see reason. Alpha to alpha. That was how this worked. That was how it had always worked.
