Chapter 34 - Chapter 411: The Special Gible

"ROAR!"

Before Cynthia or Axel could say anything, the Garchomp beside them let out an excited cry.

As a Garchomp, it was almost impossible for her to encounter her own kind outside the Great Wetlands.

Every visit here felt like going home to see family.

Urged on by Garchomp's enthusiasm, the group quickly boarded the sightseeing cart and headed toward the center of the Great Wetlands.

———

[The Garchomp Tribe's Habitat]

At the entrance, a tall Garchomp, nearly three meters in height, was pacing restlessly.

Behind him stood more than a dozen other Garchomps, as well as twenty or thirty Gabites and Gibles.

These basically made up all the members of their tribe within the Sinnoh region.

Among those gathered, there were even two Garchomps who already had trainers. After hearing the news from the chief, they had immediately returned with their children.

Cynthia's boyfriend coming to pick a Gible, this was a big deal for them.

Cynthia's skill in raising Garchomp was known throughout the world. She had trained an ordinary Gible into the world's number one, and with that Garchomp, she had dominated Sinnoh and Unova for years.

It could be said that without Cynthia, there would be no Garchomp tribe as it was today.

If one of their offspring were lucky enough to be chosen by Cynthia's boyfriend, wouldn't that mean they'd soar to greatness?

By the time that Gible returned, its strength might even surpass the chief's.

"Roar!", Glancing at the time, the Garchomp chief gave a low growl.

At once, the two Garchomps beside him brought out a large pile of Dragon Tera Crystal fragments and distributed them one by one to the waiting Gibles and Gabites.

["Little ones, absorb these well. Try to make the power of the dragon within you stronger."]

["If the one coming today chooses you, your whole life will be made."]

Dragon-type training resources were extremely rare, anything worth mentioning was always outrageously expensive.

Even for the Garchomp tribe, the best they could offer was a slightly higher-grade Dragon Tera Crystal, better than a Dragon Gem, to give their young ones a last-minute boost.

"Roar!", The little ones responded in unison, their eyes lighting up as they took the Dragon Tera Crystals and began absorbing the energy.

At that moment, a steady snoring sound came from a nearby bush.

The Garchomp chief's face darkened, ["Don't tell me he's eaten it again and gone to sleep?"]

The two Garchomps distributing the crystals exchanged a helpless look and nodded.

Every other Gible and Gabite, after receiving their crystals, had pressed them against their bodies to absorb the energy properly, hoping to take in as much as they could.

But the chief's foolish son was different... The brat had eaten his.

And, just like always, after eating, he'd gone right to sleep.

Like some salted fish without a single dream in life.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Seeing his son's behavior, the Garchomp chief let out a weary sigh.

As a Garchomp, his race's incredible power came with a downside, very poor fertility. He had never had any offspring.

Later, he'd had a sudden idea: if he couldn't produce another Garchomp, maybe he could have some other kind of child instead?

In this world, the Pokémon born always took after the mother's species line. Maybe some other Pokémon weren't as difficult to breed as Gible.

Still, as a pseudo-legendary, he had certain standards for his mate.

And then, one day, he met a female Tyranitar. [T/N: Chad chief]

He had thought it would be fine to have an adorable Larvitar as a child, he could pass on all his Ground-type mastery to it.

But to his utter shock, a few months later, Tyranitar sent him a Gible.

This was absurd, completely breaking the world's laws of egg breeding.

After raising the little thing for a while, things only got more ridiculous.

All the brat did was eat and sleep.

Eat, then sleep. Sleep, then eat.

And despite all that eating, he didn't grow. After years of this, he was still just a level 20 baby Pokémon.

He, a proud Elite-level Garchomp, how on earth did he end up with this kind of son?

Could it be that the boy's aptitude was even worse than a Caterpie's?

The Garchomp chief sighed again, feeling completely drained.

But what could he do?

He couldn't just throw away his own kid. The only option was to take him along on journeys someday, to see if fate would give him some chance to grow stronger.

"Take him back into the cave for now. Cynthia's Garchomp doesn't come home often, don't let her trainer see this embarrassment..."

———

"Roar!"

From afar, Cynthia's Garchomp let out a joyous cry from the sightseeing cart and spread its wings, soaring ahead.

"This girl... she's always so eager when she comes home."

Watching Garchomp's silhouette vanish into the distance, Cynthia smiled softly. To see Garchomp happy, honestly, that was what she wanted most.

"Ahem... allow me to introduce the Garchomp tribe to Mr. Axel."

Brown pointed to a mountainous region in the distance, "The Garchomps live in that area. They usually don't come out much."

"Unlike other Pokémon, their relationship with the Great Wetlands is more like a partnership."

"They receive food and, in return, protect the safety of the Wetlands. Otherwise, with so many Pokémon gathered here, it would easily draw the attention of villains."

At that, Brown looked slightly troubled.

"Not long ago, I even heard from colleagues in other regions that an evil group called Team Rocket had shown up here. They love capturing Pokémon."

At the mention of "Team Rocket," Axel and Cynthia exchanged amused looks.

"Don't worry about them," Axel said with a smile, "Why don't you tell us how many Garchomps have returned?"

"Miss Cynthia guessed it right," Brown gave a thumbs-up, casually flattering her again.

"Once the news spread that Mr. Axel was coming to select a Pokémon, nearly every Garchomp in Sinnoh came back."

"Right now, the Great Wetlands have about fifty in total, Garchomps, Gabites, and Gibles combined."

"Other than the chief, every Garchomp is willing to follow Mr. Axel if he chooses them!"

As he said this, Brown looked at Axel with open admiration.

He really couldn't understand how someone could be this outstanding, handsome, powerful, and so loved by Pokémon.

If he could just have a bit of whatever it was Axel had... he'd even be willing to marry Madam Florges himself.
