"YOU WHAT?!"
Eina's voice echoed far louder than she intended. The moment the words left her mouth, her eyes went wide and both hands flew up to clamp over her lips. A few adventurers nearby glanced over, curiosity already sparking.
It was already Monday. Eina wasn't expecting Orion back from whatever work he had for at least a week or so. But here he was, another day clocking in.
The boy hadn't taken a day off since the day he had become an adventurer. Eina honestly was worried about his health. And just when she thought about stepping in and making him take a rest, he himself came proclaiming he might not be coming for dungeon diving for a few days.
She didn't like that she wouldn't be seeing him for a few days, but it was good for him. Everyone needed rest after all.
So why the hell was he here the next day?
And if that wasn't enough, the first thing he did after entering the guild hall was to explode a bomb on her.
She laughed awkwardly, waved once, then leaned in close to Orion and hissed, "Say that again. Quietly."
Orion blinked, and then a smirk appeared on his lips. She wasn't believing him, was she… hehehe… looking far too calm for someone who had just dropped a bombshell, he simply nodded.
"I-LEVEL-UP…" He said with an intentional, almost teasingly slow tone, making her take each word clearly.
Next, Eina's mind short-circuited.
'Level up? No, that's not possible. How long has it been since he arrived in Orario anyway? How can he level up this fast…' Eina's mind struggled to keep up with the possibilities.
He had arrived in Orario barely a week ago. A week. Most adventurers spent years bleeding in the Dungeon just to reach the brink of the next level. And that was just level 2.
Consecutive level-ups needed more time and great feats of acknowledgment.
And he was standing there, breathing normally, telling her he had already crossed it?
In a bloody week!!!
Her gaze snapped down to his status, fingers trembling as she reviewed it again, and again. The numbers didn't lie. The proof was there, carved into his very soul.
And that wasn't it. Her eyes widened further when she actually read the previous status he updated from.
"S-999"
'All of them.' Her lips trembled at the completely maxed-out status in front of her. She once again looked at the handsome boy smirking at her like he had slain the Black Dragon himself.
'He might not be that far from that if his growth is like this…' She grumbled.
Orion just enjoyed her reaction. He didn't have to tell her he leveled up, but he did. Orion didn't even have to show her his status, but he did. Just because the girl was good to him.
Naive? Perhaps. But he didn't wish to hide anything from her if it wasn't completely necessary.
Not to mention, only when he knew and believed that he really leveled up would she let him go to the deeper floors.
Of course, he didn't need her permission, but his life would be hell later on when he brought the monster loot afterward to sell.
Eina was a very capable assistant with one hell of an eye for monster parts and drops. She could tell just by looking which floors they were from.
'Perhaps I should have gone for someone a little less competent…' Orion couldn't help but grimace.
Anyways, he decided to tell her. There was no going back.
Of course, he only shared his status, nothing more. Like his special skills or incantations or magic.
There were a few things that even his assistant was better off not knowing about him. Like how he could revive someone one time.
That was enough for Orario to start a civil war over him.
He was a bit easygoing, he agreed. But even he wasn't that dense to not assume what kind of chaos that skill of his would cause in this world.
"This… this doesn't make sense," she muttered, pacing once, then stopping abruptly. Her eyes sharpened, the shock giving way to urgency. "You didn't tell anyone else, did you?"
At his silent shake of the head, "Only my dear Advisor, no one else…" He said with a cheeky grin on his face.
She sent a glare at him. It was almost criminal how he got away with teasing her like this just because he was handsome…
She grabbed his wrist without hesitation.
[Oh my… my Tarnish might finally become a real man today…]
Orion's brow twitched at this. 'What do you mean real man…?'
'Virgin men are also men, okay…' he grumbled. Though he recalled that one dream from back in Axel, her goddess punishment in that dream was so real that…
'It wasn't that bad. Wouldn't mind more dreams like that. Just a bit less kinky if possible.'
Orion, to his credit, didn't become a blushing mess this time around. A week ago, he might have been, but it's amazing what a week of being around godly women can do to you.
For once, he had built up resistance…
Second, he knew Eina enough to know that she had nothing fluffy in mind.
"We are not discussing this here," she said firmly.
Yup, he knew it, but that didn't mean he wouldn't take advantage of this. "Oh… talk in private… my, you'll make me blush like this, Miss Eina."
The pressure on his hand tightened. Eina's grip was strong for a guild advisor.
"Idiot," he heard her mutter, and was that a blush he saw?
This resulted in her dragging him along with more vigor.
Before Orion could respond, Eina was already dragging him toward a side room, her expression tight with concern and definitely not avoiding his face.
"If the wrong people hear about this," she murmured, "it won't be congratulations you'll receive."
This, Orion was aware of…
He had enough time to think things through while he made his way to the guild hall.
In fact, it's a funny story how everything turned out.
Orion had bolted through the dungeon corridors the moment the thought struck him, boots slamming against stone as panic finally caught up to him.
Two months.
He might have been gone for two whole months. His mind spiraled with images of everything going wrong at once—quests missed, timelines broken, people wondering where the hell he vanished to.
He really panicked back then.
[You can teleport.]
If Marika hadn't reminded him of that, he might have broken a few of the Dungeon floors by now.
Then he very deliberately did not scream, choosing instead to curse his panicking, temporarily useless brain. Muttering insults at himself, he activated his teleport and vanished from the dungeon in a flash of light.
He reappeared outside and immediately grabbed the nearest guard by the shoulder, blurting out the date without even greeting him.
The answer came easily.
Barely any time had passed. It was Monday, the next day since he utilized one entire day fighting in the USJ dungeon, and then against Beldia.
The two months he spent in Konosuba were not even there.
'Ah… does this have something to do with Time Dilation?' He seemed to recall what the system told him.
Once the door shut behind them, Eina turned on Orion with the full weight of her authority as an advisor.
"Explain," she said flatly, arms crossed. "Everything. Weren't you going to be away from Orario for a while? Just yesterday, you were a level 1. What did you do in just a single day?" Her eyes drilled a hole in him.
Orion opened his mouth, then closed it again.
He couldn't tell her the truth, of course. It might even sound like he was lying—about how absurd it was—fighting headless undead knights. Definitely not about two goddesses, one hikiNeet, one masochistic crusader, an explosion-obsessed mage, alongside an entire town worth of adventurers that treated chaos like a local delicacy, helping him level up.
'Yup, my lie at this point might sound more truer than that!'
So he did the only thing left.
He lied.
"Well," he began slowly, scratching the back of his head, "there was this… unusually strong monster."
"…Upper floors, of course…" He hurriedly added when he saw her eyes narrowing.
"Might've wandered up from deeper levels. Very angry. Very… stab-able."
Eina's eyebrow twitched.
"So you stabbed it?!"
"Of course not. I fought it, man to man."
Eina sighed. Why were all adventurers stupid?
Eina stared at him with the exact expression one used when listening to a child insist the dog ate their homework, the desk, and the house.
To prove he seemed to also know where the dog pooped, if it came to that.
"…You're full of it," she said calmly.
Orion smiled. Thick-skinned, as usual.
"I'll take it as a compliment."
She sighed, rubbing her temples. "Listen to me very carefully. Whatever actually happened, you are not to reveal your status to anyone. Not friends. Not gods. Not random adventurers in taverns."
"What about pretty Elf Advisors, do those count…?"
"ORION."
Eina's glare tightened, though the smirk below those eyes was obvious.
Eina felt like throwing a punch at him. No matter whether it did any damage or not, the act counted, not the damage. 'If he wasn't this handsome, I might really like to punch him, just once…' Eina grumbled.
Cheeks ever so slightly dusted pink at his usual compliments.
He wasn't like this, you know. When he first arrived, he was so shy. How did just one week in the city make him sound like a playboy in the making?
To this, she glared even more.
He nodded immediately. "Okay, okay… I agree. Completely agree."
Another sigh. Stronger this time. The kind that announced the arrival of a migraine.
"Good," Eina said. "Because if word gets out—"
She stopped when Orion cleared his throat.
"There's one more thing," he said.
Her eyes narrowed. "What now?"
He hesitated, then met her gaze. "Would you… like to go out with me sometime? Dinner. As thanks. For helping me when I first arrived. When I had nothing."
Eina froze.
"Eh…?!"
"Like… like a date?!"
xXx
