Chapter 166 - Chapter 166: The Ancient One Departs

The moment those words left his mouth, the area where the high-ranking demons stood fell into a dead silence.

After all, most of the creatures gathered around the high-ranking demons were their own kind. These weren't the ignorant, fearless cannon-fodder types. They had heard the title "Chaos Wielder" long ago—and they understood the sheer horror that title represented.

In an instant, fear and unease surfaced in every high-ranking demon's eyes. They exchanged knowing looks, then silently began backing away, preparing to open portals and leave the region.

What the hell was a Chaos Wielder doing in this Hell Dimension?

Had something happened to their demon god?

Otherwise, how could that walking calamity possibly have been allowed in?

In stark contrast to the sharp-nosed high-ranking demons who could already sense the danger closing in, the lesser demons remained muddle-headed, utterly unaware of the crisis about to descend.

Most of them normally didn't even qualify to leave Hell and go to Earth. They'd only heard rumors of what humans looked like—never seen one with their own eyes.

Now a living, breathing human had appeared right in front of them, and their emotions burned even hotter than the high-ranking demons'.

They surged toward Harry like a tidal wave, desperate to get a closer look at a human—or, if they could manage it, to sneak off with a little "souvenir" of flesh.

Of course, with the high-ranking demons still behind them, they didn't dare start eating the human first. That would earn them a punishment worse than death.

But when the numbers got big enough, there were always a few clever ones among the lesser demons. Those sharper minds noticed something strange: the high-ranking demons weren't rushing forward greedily like they usually did. They were retreating.

Seeing that, some of the lesser demons' blood-red eyes flicked sideways. They sniffed out danger and quietly withdrew as well.

Yet whether high-ranking or lesser, they were still worlds away from a true demon god. They had no idea that as long as they remained inside the Hell Dimension, they were all about to be struck—comprehensively, unconditionally, from every direction.

At this moment, what should have been the most terrifying abyss—where countless souls trembled—and what should have been one of the multiverse's strongest races, had become powerless prey… and the most pitiful sight of all.

And so, years after the last time he entered a fully uncontrolled state…

Harry released the "seal" on himself once again.

He entered a fully uncontrolled state.

The chaos within Harry detonated outward, expanding violently—bursting into multicolored streams of light that surged in every direction.

Ash-gray, crimson, indigo, amber-orange, pale violet, emerald green…

The colors split apart, then braided together—one and infinite at the same time.

They became chaos itself.

The lesser demons with twisted faces who were lunging for Harry were swept over by that berserk chaos magic.

The instant they touched the runaway power, they vanished like snow under a blazing sun—no struggle, no trace, nothing left behind.

The multicolored chaos magic crossed endless distance and time, rampaging through the Hell Dimension at an unimaginable speed.

In the blink of an eye, it caught the fleeing lesser demons and high-ranking demons alike—and swallowed them whole.

The energy level of the chaos magic kept climbing at a near-mad, unbelievable rate.

It warped space and time. No place and no moment could bind it—whether a single second or thousands of years.

But to ordinary perception, it was only an instant: the chaos magic had already swept through nearly three-tenths of the Hell Dimension.

During that process, Mephisto tried to resist. Yet the high-dimensional power that had once been terrifyingly strong offered no resistance at all before that chaos—no different from a pathetic lesser demon. The moment it made contact, it was devoured.

As the chaos magic spread, the laws within the Hell Dimension spiraled into disorder, turning the realm into something like a dimensional rift.

Time passed—how long, it was impossible to say—until Harry gradually realized he had reached his limit.

If he didn't rein it in now, he would completely lose control of the chaos magic, and he might not even get the chance to pull it back.

And if he truly lost control… who knew how long it would take before he could return to a human state again.

So the chaos magic that had engulfed nearly three-tenths of the Hell Dimension finally began to flow back under his desperate control, streaming into his body.

Of course, before it fully withdrew—while the chaos magic still hadn't completely faded—Harry had a sudden idea. He guided a wave made purely of chaos magic.

That wave swept up hundreds of high-ranking demons in an instant, sealing them inside a pocket dimension.

He hadn't forgotten the grudge from when Mephisto fought him over the borrowers.

When the last thread of chaos magic slipped fully back into Harry, he dropped into a strange, contradictory state.

He felt unbelievably weak—and unbelievably powerful.

Powerful, because he had devoured nearly three-tenths of Mephisto's dimensional universe, and his chaos magic had been further strengthened.

Weak, because after this loss of control, his chaos magic was stronger than ever—but the amount he could actively control had shrunk drastically. It might take a year or two to recover.

Still, with the number of borrowers he had now, he could use them to raise the amount of magic he could control. That recovery time would be cut down significantly.

And Harry had gained something else, too.

By devouring nearly three-tenths of the Hell Dimension, he seized part of Mephisto's authority. His mastery of "contracts," "demonic magic," and "soul magic" surged forward.

Once he digested that knowledge later, even if his controllable power remained reduced, his overall strength might stay the same—or even increase.

When Harry moved to leave the Hell Dimension, Mephisto agreed without hesitation.

He hated Harry so much his teeth ached, and he wanted nothing more than to tear him apart on the spot—but he also absolutely did not want that plague-bringer staying in his realm for a second longer.

After Harry opened a portal and returned to the space just outside Earth, Mephisto finally dared to roar in fury:

"Damn you, Harry Potter—you should die!"

Harry stepped through the portal and reappeared in the void beyond Earth. The moment he arrived, he heard Mephisto's furious howl.

He turned his head, swept his gaze over Mephisto, and curled his mouth in mockery.

"You didn't say that a second ago. Now you're acting tough?"

Perhaps knowing his current body was doomed anyway, Mephisto didn't beg anymore. Instead, he stared at Harry with bloodshot, vicious eyes and ground out each word:

"Remember this moment forever. I, Mephisto, swear it—Hell and Kamar-Taj will be locked in a war to the death!

I hope that in the time to come, you can withstand the wrath of a dimensional demon god!"

With that, he didn't give Harry any chance to keep humiliating him. He detonated himself without the slightest hesitation.

In the next instant, a terrifying force—countless times stronger than a nuclear blast—erupted violently through that stretch of space.

Blinding light lit up the emptiness. Savage energy waves spread outward like a raging tide, exploding in all directions.

But just as that power was about to rampage and cause catastrophic damage to everything nearby, the Sorcerer Supreme acted in time.

She stopped it effortlessly, binding the blast's force within a contained space so nothing could spill out—leaving the surrounding area untouched.

After this, Mephisto was left severely crippled.

He had lost an enormous amount of power, and his dimension had been heavily damaged. To recover his former strength would take an unimaginably long time.

Worse still, in his current state, he would inevitably draw predators.

Plenty of other dimensional demon gods would seize this chance to attack him.

He was in for a truly miserable time.

Meanwhile, Harry turned his head toward the distant Chitauri mothership. While a trace of chaos magic still lingered, he pointed from afar at the demon archduke and the Chitauri leader in the command center and flashed them a wide, toothy grin.

Then he vanished from where he stood and appeared right in front of the mothership's shield. He lifted one finger and tapped lightly.

The energy shield—something that normally took him a long time of sustained attacks to break—shattered completely.

After that, he flicked out a beam of chaos magic and let it fall onto the Chitauri mothership.

In the next moment, the ship violently collapsed inward, then became a single flare of light and exploded—vanishing from space as if it had never existed.

When it was over, only Harry and the Ancient One remained in the void.

Harry looked at his teacher with an expression full of tangled emotion. Even though he knew she was leaving to finally rest, sorrow still flooded his chest.

The brilliant golden glow around the Sorcerer Supreme had already dimmed significantly. That body of hers clearly couldn't hold on much longer.

The Ancient One stepped up to him, gently brushed away the tears sliding down from the corner of his eye, and smiled with soft pity.

"Why are you crying? It's not like we'll never see each other again…"

That only made Harry feel worse. His tears wouldn't stop.

He thought of the days when he trained bitterly while his teacher went off to handle invasions.

He thought of the days when she'd been teaching him magic, only to suddenly leave for work.

He thought of the good life he'd had.

He thought of the future—of how, once she was gone, everything would be on him, and there would be no one standing in front, taking the weight first…

After hesitating, Harry clenched his jaw and said:

"Teacher… can you not go? My state is unstable right now. If I lose control completely, it won't take long before I grow strong enough to beat the Vishanti into the ground!"

The Ancient One shook her head gently and refused without hesitation.

The golden radiance around her had nearly gone out. In that same calm, warm voice, she said:

"I'm sorry, Harry. I have to go. From now on, the responsibility of protecting Earth… belongs to you."

As soon as the words fell, her body fully transformed into energy, fracturing into countless crystalline specks of golden light that gradually scattered into the deep void.

At the same time, Harry noticed a faint pulse of power—subtle, hidden—followed by a pure soul being drawn into a concealed, immensely powerful dimension.

The strongest Sorcerer Supreme in history.

A Skyfather-level powerhouse.

A spellcaster who made countless dimensional demon gods tremble.

The borrower who beat up his creditors—

The Ancient One, departed at last.

And at the very same time…

Harry became the next Sorcerer Supreme.
