Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Harry’s Broomstick

Harry finally remembered that Peter had always been a fan of Mr Stark; no wonder he was so worked up.

"Mr Stark invited me to a party he's throwing tonight," Harry said. "I might be able to bring you along. I don't think he'd mind."

"Really?" Peter's whole body trembled like he might faint at any moment.

"I can't believe I might actually get to go to a party hosted by Mr Stark. That's literally what people dream about.

No, I need to think about what I'm going to wear. I have to make a good impression on him!"

He put down his half-finished meal and bolted back to his room. A moment later the sounds of frantic rummaging drifted out from behind the door—clearly he was already changing.

Aunt May set a neatly sliced piece of steak onto Harry's plate and chuckled. "Peter still likes Stark that much, huh."

...

After lunch, Harry said goodbye to Aunt May and headed for the New York Sanctum.

He wanted to see whether the Sorcerer Supreme was currently at Kamar-Taj. If she was, he planned to tell her everything he'd learned from the wizarding world and see if any of that knowledge could be useful to her.

If she wasn't, he would need to use the magical materials Kamar-Taj had accumulated to craft a wand for himself in this world.

A wand wouldn't just amplify his spells; it would also stabilize his magic. That would, without question, boost his power significantly.

If he could make a wand that matched him perfectly, he might finally be able to cast magic reliably.

Then he could use portals again, instead of slogging along on foot everywhere like he did now.

Besides the wand, Harry also wanted to make another magical item: a flying broomstick.

Compared to crafting a wand—where you had to worry about materials, compatibility, and magical resonance—the requirements for a broomstick were much simpler.

There was no need to worry about compatibility or conflicting magic. As long as you had enough magical materials, you could build one.

Harry could already use magic to fly under his own power, but his speed wasn't great. With a broomstick to help, his flight speed would increase dramatically.

He greeted the sorcerers he passed along the way, then headed upstairs and found Daniel Drumm, guardian of the New York Sanctum.

Drumm's command of magic was formidable, putting him on the first tier below the Sorcerer Supreme. If Harry limited himself to the magic he could safely control without digging deeper, he wasn't Drumm's match.

Daniel Drumm was a bald, broad-shouldered Black man. He looked a bit intimidating at first glance, but in reality he was gentle and completely unassuming for a guardian.

When Harry found him, he was sweeping the floor with a broom.

"Good afternoon, Master Drumm," Harry said with a polite smile.

"Good afternoon, Harry." All the sorcerers liked Harry, and they all knew he was the future Sorcerer Supreme, so they treated him with warmth and kindness.

"Are you here to see the Sorcerer Supreme? I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you—she went to seal a dimensional rift. It'll be a while before she's back."

Harry felt a flicker of disappointment. So the Sorcerer Supreme wasn't around. It looked like he'd have to wait before sharing what he'd learned from the wizarding world with her.

"All right," he said. "I've got other things to do anyway. Goodbye, Master Drumm."

He stepped through a portal back to Kamar-Taj and ran straight toward the library.

To choose magical materials, he needed to report to Wong. Wong was the librarian, and he spent most of his time in the library reading.

Harry deeply admired Wong's patience. He could only manage a few hours of reading before getting restless, but Wong stayed in the library day after day.

No wonder the Sorcerer Supreme had told him that in certain parallel universes, Wong himself took on the duties of Sorcerer Supreme. Wong's natural talent wasn't amazing, but hard work could still create miracles.

Wong was indeed in the deepest part of the library, reading. Right next to him was the restricted section, whose books were all dangerous.

Some contained incredibly powerful magic with lethal costs; others held sinister arts that required borrowing power from evil gods.

The most famous volume among them was the Book of Cagliostro. Kaecilius had once tried to borrow it but been refused by the Sorcerer Supreme.

It was because Harry was allowed to read it freely that Kaecilius grew jealous of him and changed his attitude.

They'd actually gotten along fairly well in the past. Kaecilius had even said that if his child hadn't died, he'd be about Harry's age now.

Harry had tried to mend their relationship, but Kaecilius only became colder toward him.

Harry was helpless. He couldn't exactly explain that the reason he could read the Book of Cagliostro was because he was immune to the whispers of eldritch gods. The chaos magic in his body was a secret known only to the Sorcerer Supreme—something he absolutely could not reveal to anyone else.

"Good afternoon, Wong. I need your help finding some magical materials," Harry said as he walked up, skipping any formalities.

Wong closed the book in his hands—Arcane Essentials: Advanced Portals—and asked, "All right, let's go to the vault. What kind of materials do you need?"

Harry was the future Sorcerer Supreme; not just the vault, even the restricted section was open to him. Wong didn't bother asking what he planned to make—he simply helped him gather what he needed.

Harry described the general properties for the wand and broomstick materials. "Wood with high magical conductivity—something like branches from the Flora colossi will do—and tissues from magical creatures, preferably feathers or hair."

He hesitated, then added, a bit uncertain, "And maybe something with… chaotic traits."

The magic of the wizarding world was, in essence, chaos magic, and the magical materials there all carried chaos-aligned properties. Harry felt that materials infused with chaos would suit him better.

Wong traced a spell-circle on the vault door, opening the enchanted entrance, and led the way inside.

"We still have a few branches from the Flora colossi. Oh, and here are some World Tree branches. There are also plenty of magical creature parts—dragon scales, ice phoenix feathers, fairy hair… but none of these seem to have any chaos-aligned properties," he said.

Harry took the materials and frowned slightly.

These weren't the greatest materials in the entire multiverse, but they were definitely top-tier.

Yet the moment he touched them, he knew that any wand made from these components wouldn't truly be his.

They could reinforce his chaos magic, but only to a limited degree—nowhere near the way wands in the wizarding world could double a wizard's power.

Reluctantly, Harry asked, "So there's really nothing with chaos properties?"

Wong spread his hands. "Kamar-Taj magic is primarily aligned with order. We don't have any use for chaotic materials. We also don't forge wands—Sling Rings are far more convenient than a wand.

Just use these for now. When the Sorcerer Supreme gets back, she can take you to the Crossroads Dimension. You might be able to find chaos-aligned materials there."

"Okay. Guess that's the best I can do for now."

Carrying the magical components, Harry went to one of the training rooms, shut the door, and began crafting his wand and his flying broomstick.

The broomstick was much simpler. Using the materials he had, Harry quickly put together a broom that performed quite nicely.
