"So, who wants to answer this question?" Nick Fury scanned everyone with his single eye.
"I just answered, so you all can discuss it," Black Widow shrugged.
"Batman's cape is useless to me. If any of you like it, go ahead and answer," Iron Man spread his hands.
"Although I'd also like to try, I already have a cape," Thor also shook his head, indicating he wasn't interested.
"I'll answer," Coulson stepped forward at this moment.
After learning the truth of this world, Coulson deeply understood the crucial roles these individuals around him would play in the future.
More powerful rewards would be more impactful when given to those people.
As for this Batman cape, which didn't seem particularly powerful, he, Coulson, would take it.
This was one of the few things he, Coulson, could do for these future superheroes.
"I choose A, Iron Man, Tony Stark!"
Coulson stated his answer to the big screen.
"Answer incorrect!"
Immediately after, the answering system sounded this prompt, surprising everyone present.
"Answerer Phil Coulson will be punished by having his driving skills erased, effective immediately!"
With the system's announcement, Coulson immediately felt that the relevant memories and experiences in his mind instantly vanished completely.
This even included bicycles.
Of course, it also included some specialized vehicles.
"Looks like I'll need to retake my driving test," Coulson shrugged self-deprecatingly.
This punishment wasn't particularly severe, so no one dwelled on it. Instead, they refocused their attention on the question.
"The answer isn't Stark. Let's re-examine the other three options,"
Nick Fury propped his chin with his hand, looking at the remaining three options, and said in a deep voice, "First, me. I've thought about it carefully again. Calling out for my mother before dying, that's impossible for me. I'm certain."
"I've already died once, and I didn't do that then. I'm also certain it wouldn't be me," Captain America also said to everyone in a deep voice.
"In that case, is the answer Hawkeye Barton?" Thor interjected, following up on their words.
Both individuals in the options could confidently state they wouldn't do that, which made their claims highly credible.
However, Hawkeye Barton was previously excluded based on Nick Fury's judgment, an outsider's perspective.
If only one person could be chosen from the three, it would naturally be Hawkeye Barton.
Nick Fury pondered for a moment and largely agreed with Thor's guess. Even if he and Barton were familiar, it was the relationship of a superior and subordinate, not friends.
He knew Barton had a family, but he had never visited Barton's home and only had a general idea of the family dynamics.
Even if he guessed wrong, it wouldn't be surprising.
"Then… this time, let me answer," Nick Fury made his decision after a brief moment of contemplation.
No one raised any objections to this.
"I choose C, Hawkeye Barton, Clint!" Nick Fury confidently gave his answer.
However... "Answer incorrect!"
The answer was still wrong!
"Answerer Nick Fury will be punished by having his combat skills erased, effective immediately!"
As soon as the system's prompt flashed, Nick Fury immediately felt that all his combat-related memories in his mind had completely vanished.
However, to his consolation, as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury usually directed operations from behind the scenes, rarely having the opportunity to fight on the front lines.
Moreover, with the Black Panther suit and plasma lightsaber, even losing his combat skills wouldn't significantly impact Nick Fury.
With these two, he could just charge through.
"The answer is wrong again? What went wrong?"
Nick Fury didn't dwell on losing his combat skills. Instead, he furrowed his brow and began to re-examine the question.
When he first started answering, he thought this question was simple and that he could get the answer without much effort or analysis.
But now, it seemed this seemingly simple question was much harder than he had imagined.
They had answered incorrectly twice in a row.
Nick Fury had already participated in two rounds of questions before, and he had never made two consecutive wrong answers.
"It's not Stark, it's not Barton, so it can only be you or Captain, sir." Black Widow's brow also furrowed slightly, "But both of you are very certain you wouldn't do that."
The problem lay precisely here.
Both individuals swore they wouldn't do that, yet the answer had to come from one of them.
Iron Man, the 'most suspicious' one, was proven wrong in the first round of answering.
"Nick Fury, Captain, please think very carefully again about how you two would react if you were facing death,"
Iron Man said to Captain America and Nick Fury with a serious expression.
"No need to think. I'm a man who has died once. What could be more convincing than that?" Captain America said emphatically.
"But that was before!" Black Widow offered a different opinion. "Captain, seventy years have passed now. The world has changed drastically. Some of the people you cared about back then might no longer be here, or you might not care about them as much."
"If one day in the future you face a life-or-death crisis, will your dying thoughts be different from seventy years ago?"
Black Widow stared at Captain America and asked seriously.
What Black Widow said made sense, but Captain America pondered for a moment before shaking his head: "I wouldn't do that."
"Then this question is very interesting. I'm also certain I wouldn't do that."
Nick Fury shrugged, looking absolutely certain. "If I really said anything before I died, it would only be swear words, not calling out for my mother!"
Nick Fury spoke without intending anything, but Black Widow on the side couldn't help but stir, as if she had thought of something.
"Sir, have you ever noticed how many times a day you curse 'motherfucker'?" Black Widow asked, hinting at something.
"Many, really many!" Coulson quickly realized what she meant and nodded seriously from the side.
Everyone present wasn't foolish. Prompted by Black Widow, they immediately understood what she was getting at.
