In the air both Salem and Wonder spent their time trying to figure out how to stop the nuke from hitting Guam. There was little time, little planning. Nothing.
Wonder: "What if we turn the bomb up?"
Salem, under the orange flames has another confused expression, but not one of sarcasm, though he barely is, one of actual confusion.
Salem: "What do you mean if, "we just turn it up?", like fire wise? I can barely control the fire right now."
That's true. Since the very moment he started flying, the fire of Salem's body was going in and out.
Salem only noticed after he felt spots of his body cold, then warm. It keeps happening. Eventually Salem just felt like he could power through it.
Wonder: "If that's happening, you might be too weak, you'll have to force yourself to be stronger."
Under his fire covering his face, he looks dumbfounded by what Wonder said.
Salem: "Is there like some magical trick to getting stronger?"
Wonder doesn't speak and just leaves Salem in silence as he continues flying.
The air around Salem was hot, but he couldn't feel it, his body adapted to the heat. He eventually found a speed that would make him feel cruising but he still was in a hurry.
As Salem continued flying he looked down, the people of the island all in distress, some scream, not many. Some continue on about their day as usual. He continues, he sees a building with a cross on top, A Church, it's overflowing with people.
After a while Wonder speaks.
Wonder: "For a few seconds you would have full capability of my fire but if exposed to long to it... You'll develop burns, none of my other successors have ever tried to use it, they've never needed to but with the power of man today, it will most definitely need to be used."
Salem nods his head as he continues his flight, arms to his side and face first as he fully passes the Island, no longer being above it. Passing right past the last tree in the most secluded area.
In the distance of the sea, Salem sees a military ship moving away from the Island to more than likely save themselves, theres also many planes flying off, more than likely due to the fact a nuke will hit the island.
After ten more minutes he sees it, the thing that he will have to redirect, not sure if he even has the strength capable to even touch it he decides that he'll have to force himself to move it.
He flexes his body tighter and take a deep breath, the flames around his mouth enter just as he breathes in and as he releases the air, in his lungs, like a baby dragon he blows out a small flame, but he doesn't even notice it and he doesn't pay attention to it because he only has one thing in mind.
Salem: 'I'll keep both mom and my brother safe.'
Mile by mile both the figures get closer, but with the head start that the nuke had it's very likely that it'll hit the island before Salem redirects it.
His heart beats harder, now pounding in his ear, unlike earlier he now feels the need to move faster, his heart pumps his blood faster, and somehow hotter.
Unknowingly he increases his speed, the heat burns hotter and just a bit brighter.
Off the into the distance, and out of sight of Salem. Someone catches sight of him, thinking that he id god because of the color and how bright he is the person get down onto their knees and begins praying.
Salem now moving faster than the nuke itself it he move closer and closer to it mile by mile, not wanting to let it have the chance of being even within a slight distant radius of Guam.
One minute. Two minutes. Three minutes. Four minutes. Five minutes.
After five minutes, the spark of what was the nuke is now very visible and after another minute Salem stops himself and floats in front of the nuke, it inches closer and closer to his direction.
The nuke was severely underestimated by him in it's size, the nuke looks like it could hold three maybe four buses. And that is the object that he has to turn into space.
Salem: "What do-"
The nuke wizzes right by him, he stumble and flies right under it.
Salem: "Wonder Help!"
No reply.
Salem: 'Did that bird fall asleep!'
Salem tries to get closer to the nuke but his earlier speed now no longer back, his breath isn't stable and his connection feels wrong making him not feel fast enough
Salem: "Wonder please!"
Salem feels himself lag behind the nuke slowly making it trail off.
Salem: "Move faster, Move faster. SALEM MOVE!"
He continues lagging behind. His fire feels like it's dimming...
He closes his eyes.
Salem: 'Salem move faster please.'
His mind speaks to himself softly as if pleading then he take a deep breath. Just like before the fire enters his mouth then as he exhales, flames come out.
Slowly Salem feels his speed pick up. He fire burning hotter then it was before and making him catch up once again.
Salem slowly ducks his whole body underneath the nuke as it and he continue its flight path towards the island. His hand now toke the cold metal, that slowly begins to copy Salem heat temp.
That's when Wonders voice booms in Salems head, giving him a nasty headache.
Wonder: "Push the bomb up now, Boy!"
Once Wonder says that Salem feels a rush of power onto his body, He grips the part of the nuke he is under and the flames the are holding his body now feel accelerated.
Once he tries pushing hard, the nuke doesn't change trajectory. So he tries again, his breathing hitched from using up his strength to try and get closer.
Wonder: "Salem take a deep breath, the better you visualize yourself the easier you will have control over your power on the flames."
Wonders voice sounds almost worried about Salem.
Salem follows his advice and for the third time taking in some air, the flames follow into his mouth, then exhale, the flames come out in a puff of air.
Salem pushes as hard as he can and slowly the nuke begins to tilt. Slowly and slowly, the nuke tilts upward. Making Salem gain more confidence and a smile as he pushes even harder, making the nuke turn up right now.
But something feels hot on his body ad just like when he first got contacted with Wonder. Salem feels a burn so hot that tears appear in his eyes.
The pain first starting in his leg and slowly moving up, but Salem doesn't stop the pain wont be as imaginable as if he lost both his younger brother and his mother.
Salem continues flying upright toward the blue abyss of clouds in the sky. Soon Salem reaches the clouds, his air feel less up here but that doesn't stop him. In the distance the color of the sky changes, into a dark blue/black color.
Salem pushes his body to move the nuke. Making it gain more height, but the nuke rockets don't let up just yet so both the nuke and Salem continue ascending. Until he can't.
Salem fire dims, into nothing but his naked body and brown skin. The nuke ascends more as Salem drops his speed increase as he gets lower.
After a minute more in the sky, the nuke goes off. The winds blasting away from the radius, as well as pushing Salem so hard that he get whiplash from the unexpected explosion, and he goes unconscious and his body goes limp.
Salem plummets toward the sea. Moving faster and faster and if he doesn't slow down his body will just splatter into shark food.
