Chapter 8 - Flight

Wonder: "Ohh Yes, I forgot.. We haven't discussed how to do that."

If Wonder was in a physical bird body. It would been scratching its head so hard right now, in pure confusion.

Salem: "So any ideas?"

Wonder: "I say we fly at it and blow it up."

Salem: "That would kill us. And I can fly?"

Wonder: "Yes, you can fly. Imagine yourself jumping but try keeping the form up instead."

Salem: "What does that mean?"

Salem has scratched his head more times than he can count. His head might just start to bleed.

Wonder: "When you jump, just try to hold yourself up. Like being suspended in the air. Or when you lay on your back to stay afloat in water. I heard that's what some humans do."

Salem does as instructed. He jumps. Bending his knees as deep as he can go. He then pulls his arms behind himself and releases the power from his legs and throws his arms into the air to lift him higher.

He feels his vertical being higher than what he could have ever done before. Though, before he never tried to see what his vertical was but that's all his vertical was higher.

He reached his peak then fell back down. Landing with both of his feet on the ground before he stabilized himself. Rocking his arms left and right, back and forth.

Wonder: "That's not what I meant."

Salem: "You suck at explaining stuff, you know that Wonder."

Wonder: "What you were meant to do for you to try flying is to gracefully jump, then feel the fire lift you. Like... Like-"

Salem: "Like Buoyancy..?"

Salem stops Wonder's train of thought trying to help out with its indecision of words.

Wonder: "Yes, like buoyancy. Like the fire is lifting you off the ground and holding you there. When you get that down I'll help you understand how to propel yourself."

Once again Salem tries the jump, but this time in a more calm fashion not trying to go higher but to feel himself being lifted gracefully off the ground.

He closes his eyes and tries to remember the feeling off being carried by water floating on what felt like nothing.

He jumps.

His burning body going inches off the ground. where now there seems to be burning imprints on the last spots his feet was left at.

He remembers swimming, back at the community pool, back when his mother was still in college for her nursing degree, and pregnant with Salem's younger brother.

A time was around when Salem, even though he was ten he understood that people argue, though he didn't know why. Salem's father was as physically abuse to Salem as he was mentally.

That's probably why Salem decided it was better to keep to himself and stay quiet instead of getting to talk to people and converse, he felt like he would have unlocked those things for other people and end up being verbally abused.

In the pool, Salem was laid on his back, his arms and legs spread out and his eyes staring up into the sky. At this time his mom always. wanted his hair long but in braids. more like cornrows.

As he stared up into the sky he imagined himself flying. First it was in a plane. He's never been on one so he wanted to feel the feeling of going on one and being that high into the sky. Slowly his childish imagination grew and he thought.

Young Salem: 'What if I could just fly?'

His back muscles tensed. the heat grew and then after a while he didn't feel his feet touching the ground.

Wonder: "Good job, Salem. You have achieved levitation now let me teach-"

Before Wonder can even finish the sentence Salem goes blasting off straight into the sky. Once again remembering the feeling of swimming.

The only thing that's different is he isn't moving the same way for when someone would actually be swimming. More like Ironman in the first movie with his back insanely arched.

When his eyes open Salem looks around surprised due to his height. Salem flies yards off the ground, even the tallest of trees aren't able to reach him.

Many dogs see him and start barking by the time there owner comes out to see he's gone. He also has a vantage point to see everyone going to their local church. Other families kneeling where they are in prayer as well. Many do see him but don't have time to take it in as he flies away.

His back is tense the entire time. He thinks that's how he flies.

He looks around his eyes darting everywhere on the ground. Eventually he looks up and in front of him. He sees himself flying straight toward a mountain going at an insane speed.

He tries tense his back in a different way but instead he just feels himself sapped up and slow down. Depending on how tight his back feels.

He grows fearful of the sight of the mountain as it grows closer.

Salem: "Wonder! How do I fly up?!"

Wonder: "Use your arms! Lift them. Like Superman!"

Each word that Wonder said made it seem like Salem grew closer and closer to the mountain.

Salem didn't stop in time, nor did he maneuver out of the way. Slamming right into the mountain.

Salem crashes into the mountain. Making a crater deep into the ground. With a Salem sized hole inside of it. Fire growing around the area because of the impact and Salem bright burning body.

Salem: "Goddamn!"

Salem slowly crawls out of the flaming pit of hell, that he made in the ground. Salem grabs hold of the entrance of the hole where fire is just fully surrounded it. Instead of wincing or screaming in pain the fire feels just like the flames around his body warm.

Wonder: "Human, are you okay?"

Salem: "Yes, please give me a minutes."

Minutes later he's back to whatever he was before.

Wonder: "Human, we don't have much time."

Salem stands up getting out of the hole fully.

Salem: "Okay, Let's try this again."

Salem follows the same path he took before this. Closing his eyes and feeling himself being lifted off the ground.

Once off the ground he opens his eyes, then tenses his back and flies the difference this time is he uses his arms to guide him. Weaving through the fast coming tree, with pinpoint accuracy.

Soon he gets himself back into the sky looking around for where the nuke may be coming from.

In the very far distance he sees it. A very small speck, as of right now. Fumes and smoke coming off the back end of it.

As his sight is set on it and he fully believes that the pointy thing with smoke coming off of it's behind, is the nuke he sends himself at an incredibly fast speed right toward it.

Gaining incredible speed and closing the distance rapidly, the same question is raised inside of his mains again.

Wonder & Salem: "How are we going to stop that..?"
