Chapter 16 - the old bridge

[ding ding ding]

[name: ???]

[class: thief | priest]

[level: 24 | 24]

The purple light continued to level up Riven every single minute.

While he was focused on running, several rocks fell due to the vibration from the battle between the Undead Wyvern and the ancient golem.

Canis used a wind wall to block them.

Having a clone was indeed quite convenient.

After a while, the group reached a dilapidated old bridge.

Baz and Farrdin stood back, signaling for everyone to go first.

The bridge could only support a maximum of two people at a time.

"You have food, then i have a stomach."

Just as the group was about to cross, some rocks fell from the cave ceiling onto the bridge.

Luckily, the bridge wasn't destroyed, but it was heavily damaged.

Now, it could only support one person at a time.

This meant crossing would take much longer than expected.

After Sylvie, Lan, and Canis had crossed one by one, suddenly a loud "Boom!!" echoed from the pocket space.

The sound filled the group with anxiety.

From the darkness, the Undead Wyvern roared and lunged forward.

It had destroyed the ancient golem.

Riven knew the golem wouldn't last long, but he didn't expect his lv 31 creation to be defeated so quickly.

Bones were sticking out from many parts of its body.

However, they were no longer healing as fast as before; the regeneration had slowed down.

[Lord's Majesty: weakened due to receiving too many attacks with holy effects.

Regenerates 0.25% max HP every 10.5 seconds. Passive skill.]

Seeing it flying towards them, everyone hurried.

Riven, the fastest in the group, dashed to the other side like a gust of wind.

Only two people remained: Baz and Farrdin.

"Go first," Farrdin said.

Baz knew there was no time to argue, so he quickly crossed.

The Undead Wyvern was still far enough that it couldn't reach them immediately.

As Baz almost reached the other side, the Undead Wyvern swung its claws, firing sword auras toward the bridge.

The wind-tearing slash rushed forward, filling everyone with dread.

Lan fired arrows and Canis shot fire at the slash, hoping to stop it.

But the arrows and flames were shredded.

The slash slammed into the bridge.

The moment Baz stepped onto the other side, the bridge collapsed.

It created an impassable divide between the two sides.

Baz stared in disbelief at Farrdin.

They were only 50 meters apart, but it was a line between life and death.

"Take the lady and run quickly. I will hold it off."

Although his voice still issued orders normally, everyone could hear the choking emotion in it.

Sylvie was about to scream, but Riven knocked her out with [Snatch] and carried her on his back.

Riven gave Farrdin one last look, his eyes complex, then turned away.

Lan bowed her head slightly, and Canis offered a silent prayer.

The three of them had only known Farrdin recently.

They felt sad for him, but not enough to shed tears.

The only two with deep feelings for him were Sylvie, who was unconscious, and Baz.

Baz's eyes turned red as he stared for a moment, then shouted.

"If there's a chance, i will definitely find your body and bury it in Limrus, your hometown!"

Farrdin heard this and managed a smile, giving a thumbs-up.

Then he turned to face the Undead Wyvern.

He pulled a rubber toy from his bag and crushed it. Inside was a beast-skin scroll.

This was a rare item Farrdin had found in his youth.

He wouldn't bring this out unless it was a matter of life and death.

He had hidden it inside a toy for a simple reason.

A thief might steal money or rare items, but no one would steal a toy like that.

If they did, he could only blame his own bad luck.

This scroll stored a skill of unknown level called [Golden Age].

[Golden Age: returns the user to their peak period.

All skills cooldown 4 times faster for 1 minute. Near-immortality during this time.]

"Sigh, finally this moment has come.

If i died of old age without using this skill, it would be a waste."

He tore the scroll. A golden light gradually enveloped him.

Degenerated muscles regained their vitality.

His silver hair gradually turned brown.

The wrinkles on his old face vanished.

The romantic face of a man in his 30s returned.

It wasn't as handsome as Riven or Kamis, but it had the charm of an experienced man.

"Oh, this is the feeling."

The moment the Undead Wyvern flew near, its entire body suddenly flashed red.

[Fatal Weak Point: forcibly creates a weak point on the opponent's body.

A weak point will also exist at the same position on the user's body. Lasts 20 seconds.]

This time, he applied it to the creature's entire body.

After all, his near-immortal state was no joke.

The Undead Wyvern flew over Farrdin's head, intending to chase the group.

This made him realize it was likely targeting a specific person among them.

A chain swung up and coiled around its leg.

[Reinforce: strengthens the durability of a specific item.]

Farrdin climbed the chain with incredible speed and soon touched its leg.

The Wyvern struggled repeatedly but couldn't shake him off.

He climbed straight into an unhealed wound from its battle with the golem and jumped inside.

The Undead Wyvern frantically produced death energy inside its body to kill him.

But the near-immortality of [Golden Age] meant he only suffered minor surface wounds.

Inside the slimy body full of Wyvern mucus, Farrdin frantically unleashed slashes at its internal organs.

The outer skin of sub-dragons like Wyverns might be as durable as steel, but the inside was extremely fragile.

Added to that, [Fatal Weak Point] made it feel like he was swinging his sword through rags.

The death energy production quickened. The Wyvern thrashed violently.

It crashed into the abyss between the two cliffs. The fall made its injuries even worse.

Finally, in desperation, it used its clawed arms to tear open its own chest.

Farrdin fell out along with a mess of gore.

This time, the Undead Wyvern decided to deal with the immediate problem before continuing the pursuit.

Two savage claws smashed down, burying Farrdin several meters deep.

Farrdin stepped onto the claw and walked straight up.

The Undead Wyvern hissed [Breath of Death].

Of course, it couldn't hurt him.

He rushed forward, attacking its wings frantically.

Its regeneration had dropped sharply due to the fight with Sora's strange golem.

If he could severely damage its wings at the bottom of this abyss, it might give everyone enough time to escape.

The tattered wings swung, the force knocking him into a wall.

Finally, the one minute ended.

His old, weak body returned, and he coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood.

Looking up, he saw a foot stomping down, crushing him into a mess of unidentifiable flesh.

Without looking at the old man's corpse for another second, the Undead Wyvern struggled to flap its tattered wings.

But it seemed unable to take flight.
