Chapter Forty-Two – Zahid
Angel laid on the bed, faced front, looking at the white ceiling.
The day had been long. Too long.
Seeing Leah's princess tree house, or better still, her princess castle made of wood, still played in her mind like a fairytale pop-up book that came to life. The handsome uncle whispering messages through a child, the pancake treaty with Nadir, and Nadir unexpectedly opening up about his past, all swirled in her head like a smoothie made of shock, confusion, amusement, and fatigue.
Angel believed, at least eighty percent, that the mysterious handsome uncle was Zahid.
And honestly, it made sense in her mind. Who else would send coded comfort messages through a little girl? Who else would assure her about the twins' safety? It had to be him. But even with that certainty, a small part of her still itched, like a brain mosquito, reminding her that nothing in her life lately followed straight lines.
Getting to know Nadir had softened something in her too.
