The wrath of justice battle barge.
To Kai's relief, these Soldiers were now starting to accept him as their Political Commissar, at least they didn't embarrass him in front of Li Feng. Li Feng, that guy, didn't bring anyone with him, just wearing his own jacket, looking like a young Nobility Army officer, as if he had come on a 'private inspection'.
Li Feng looked at Kai's new troops. It was clear Kai still had a lot of work to do to turn this group of mutually hostile, low-spirited, and disagreeable South Fist and North Fist into a cohesive fighting unit.
These guys were far from ready to fight humanity's enemies, but they were more than capable of fighting each other. Li Feng quickly realized this, as bickering and small conflicts were constant.
However, within hours of boarding the wrath of justice, he could clearly feel the tension permeating every corner of the ship, like marsh gas surrounding a septic tank, ready to ignite with just a spark.
Li Feng wasn't the only one who felt this. None of the other regiments on the ship dared to venture into this troop transport bay, whether for usual social interaction or traditional harmless jokes aimed at members of other units.
The Naval Military Police patrolled cautiously back and forth. Kai even called the other Political Commissars on board, but these guys weren't sociable at all. As stern 'colleagues' under the Emperor, the younger Political Commissars feared Kai's reputation, while the older Political Commissars secretly resented this newly prominent figure.
The only thing that brought comfort to Kai and Li Feng was Captain Paquita of this ship, who had commanded it for over thirty years. After meeting Li Feng and Kai, she actually invited both of them to dinner.
Kai and Li Feng were quite sure that her first invitation was merely a matter of regulation, and she probably also wanted to see what a genuine imperial hero looked like.
When Paquita asked about Li Feng's identity, Li Feng merely said he was an ordinary 'Logistics Quartermaster' on the emperors lash.
But halfway through the meal, the three men were already as familiar as old friends. Even the burly Captain Paquita, after drinking too much, performed a 'pec dance'.
Captain Paquita put his arm around Li Feng, even teaching him how to pick up girls in an experienced tone: "Look at your handsome face and physique! Why don't you go flirt with some rich ladies on Terra? Those noble young ladies, you can easily win them over, just listen to me! Go up and touch her face first..."
Paquita's words sent shivers down Kai's spine. Fortunately, Li Feng hadn't brought anyone with him. If these words reached Terra, Captain Paquita would probably embark on a 'Paquita Eye of Terror's Fantastical Journey'.
Paquita even gave Kai some advice on how to deal with the issues between Kastin and her group of Rioters:
"You need to establish some rules to prevent riots from spreading... Drag a few out! Shoot them, and they'll sober up. It's time to tighten the reins on these Army fools!"
Evidently, this captain had no experience in political work. It was easy to talk, but difficult to do, although most Political Commissars did operate this way.
Moreover, Kai had to maintain his reputation, which was crucial for him to control his Soldiers. So, unfortunately, this was not a viable solution for Kai.
Even more unfortunately, on this pleasant evening, the worst happened... After Li Feng and Kai had eaten and drunk their fill, preparing to return to Li Feng's yacht for a good soak in the bath and a sauna, something occurred... Initially, a growing clamor from the corridor near the mess hall alerted the two.
Kai had been in a good mood tonight, old friends reunited, plus Li Feng had given him a valuable watch. And his mood, which had been further improved by Paquita's wine and the large bathhouse and sauna on Li Feng's yacht, evaporated in an instant.
Kai was very familiar with this kind of sound. Just then, a squad of Military Police, doubled in number and armed with stun batons, rushed past them from behind, which further confirmed to Kai what was happening.
The two quickened their pace and caught up with them, walking in with the Military Police.
Li Feng said to the Military Police captain beside him, "Sounds like a fight has broken out."
Their expressions were hidden beneath their helmets, but they nodded: "That's right, sir."
"Do you know how it started?"
Actually, Li Feng didn't pay attention to his answer, because how it started wasn't important. The resentment among the Valhallans was like a volcano, bound to erupt somehow.
In fact, Li Feng didn't pay attention to his answer. Even if he did say something, Li Feng would just pretend he hadn't heard anything.
At this point, everyone reached the entrance of the hall. Just then, a ceramic teacup with the 296th regiment's insignia flew past with a whoosh, shattering into pieces on the Military Police captain's helmet.
"Hmph! The Emperor's toyboy!"
Kai reflexively covered his head and crouched down, immediately finding the wreckage of a large piece of furniture to hide behind and observe. "Hero Kai," "Little Treasure Kai," right?
Is it embarrassing for Little Treasure Kai to crouch down? No, it's not! It's about survival, don't mind these details!
Meanwhile, Li Feng pointed to himself and asked, "Were you just shouting at me?"
By this time, the Military Police had already rushed in, indiscriminately striking with their stun batons. Now, men and women were fighting everywhere, everyone was brawling, and military discipline had gone to hell.
Many people were already lying down, groaning, bleeding, and being trampled underfoot by the Rioters who were still fighting fiercely. Casualties were rising constantly.
The fight in the center of the hall was still raging. The way those guys were fighting, they clearly intended not to stop until someone was dead.
Someone needed to take charge. For Kai, that was the job of the Military Police. Li Feng was also about to go in and break up the fight, but Kai stopped him with a hand... "My dear sir! If you get even a scratch, all of us on this ship will be buried with you! You'd better calm down..."
Kai pulled Li Feng to sit behind an overturned table, observing the situation, watching the Military Police bravely cut a bloody path forward, while quietly recording a situation report to be given to Colonel Kastin.
The two at the center of the brawl appeared quite evenly matched to Li Feng. One was a bald man, as muscular as a Kharon native. He was much taller than his opponent, a lean, strong young woman with a messy, dark short haircut.
The man's advantage in strength was entirely negated by the woman's agility. She attacked fiercely, retreated deftly, and all of the man's offensives missed. However, the man's hammer-like heavy punches would surely break all her ribs.
Next, the man spun around, aiming a deadly roundhouse kick at her temple. The woman retreated just a bit too slowly, and his toes grazed her forehead. But when she got back up, the dagger from the table was already in her hand, and she lunged straight for the man's chest. The man blocked it, but a deep wound appeared on his right arm.
