"Don't look at me like that," Sophie pursed her lips when Eugene looked at her inquisitively after telling her what Robert told them in the car earlier, on their way to pick Hannah up from the McClaires. "I'm not the one who decided his contract length."
While Robert used to become a stand-in when the real driver cum bodyguard in charge of Sophie and Tobias had something else to do, he didn't actually belong to the family security protocol. He was a member of the short-term deployment team of McClaire's private security company, usually tasked to guard someone for a limited duration. That was why he could be immediately redirected to guard someone else outside the family.
Even this time, Sophie only handled the first month's contract, since they still needed to see whether Ian was okay with Robert's presence or not. The plan was to change it to someone else if Ian couldn't get along with him. Turned out Ian was getting along too well with him.
