Eugene was, needless to say, quite speechless. Whatever he thought would happen, he never expected Michael to sob on his knees, just shy away from kissing their dad's feet. And then, again, for Raphael to follow—not the crying, but the hugging.
Suddenly, it felt like he was the outsider this time.
He knew it was unreasonable, but he felt annoyed. It was annoying to suddenly feel like he could understand Michael's feelings. It was annoying to feel that sense of envy, worrying that his dad's love would have to be divided with others from now on...
"You were like that too back then," Arthur whispered, only to receive a pinch on his side. He merely grinned, though, because it was always fun when Eugene acted childish sometimes.
Half out of pettiness and half out of concern for his dad's knees, Eugene cleared his throat loudly. "Let's have a seat and order some food."
