She wiped his tears, yet they didn't stop coming. "Althy…" He croaked, his hand shaking in hers.
"Sh," she whispered, swiping away more tears, her smile tender. "I know."
His eyes pooled faster and his hold on her hand tightened as he began to fully sob.
Holding him, she let him weep into her shoulder, the rest of the gathered pack watching.
My throat clogged with emotion, taking in the scene, but I was far from the only other person affected. Within the crowd, there were some teary eyes and children pouting while their parents rocked them.
Kira turned away, her jaw working as she swiped at her face with the back of her hand. Rook's shoulders were rigid, his arms crossed tight over his chest like he was trying to hold himself together. Even the stoic Deltas who'd seen countless battles looked uncomfortable, their gazes dropping to the ground or fixed somewhere in the middle distance.
